Not really. She objectively dedicated her life to helping the sick. She didn’t get rich doing it and lived in a literal shithole single story wet brick home. Her being ignorant of modern medicinal practices and wrongly assuming prayer would cure serious wounds or viruses etc… or her believing overcoming struggle brought you closer to god etc.. that’s not the same as being abusive and evil or scamming people. If you want to find a historical figures who’s entire “heroic” history is purely fictional, look up Mary seacole. She is quite Literally secular peoples saint. Total lies about her being a nurse and revolutionizing medicine by healing the sick and risking her life to help people etc.. In reality she was a failed businesswoman who tried to open a bar and motel for the exclusively rich nobility and ranking officers to stay at so they could eat fancy dinners and drink high end wine etc.. whilst the average man slept in a trench in the cold. She helped 0 wounded and had nothing to do with medicine or treating the sick. She literally helped nobody. She was trying to get rich.. Her modern history is just Blatant and open lies. My Pentecostal mother took my Catholic grandmother to a Benny Hinn event. She was taken on stage and stumbled backwards but never collapsed when touched. They took her off the stage and moved on. I was a child and asked mom why grandma didn’t fall…didn’t God want to heal her? She said, “Grandma didn’t fall because she didn’t know to fall.” That confused me as a child. I went through a similar situation. A priest was doing the “ touch of Jesus” thing and when he did it to me I wasn’t falling, but the catcher guy behind me was pulling me down so I can force to fall.

Thing is, the "faith healing" they claim is backed by many verses in the bibles. That's how they justify it. They are not "misinterpreting passages" or "making stuff up". So by you being 'enraged' means that you can see that what they are doing is Wrong. It is. But the thing is, the bibles make it clear in many verses that "whatever you ask for in prayer, you will receive". So what those people are doing IS according to what the bibles claim. By you saying and realizing what they are doing is wrong, is a good thing. It means there is hope for you. Have you read the bibles? If no, do yourself a HUGE favor, read the bibles with an Open Mind. When I did that, it freed me from the shackles of religion. Before reading those books, I too was brainwashed christian for the first 30+ years of my life. Ironically, I read them to "get closer to our lord and savior". @@MasterSpade I do have an open mind, which is why I believe in God but I’m not Religious because anyone can make up a Religion and it’s kind of implied that you don’t question it and just follow. I once told my Dad “who is a youth pastor” that I was having doubts about God and he said that “That’s great!” and I was completely shocked. He then said that It was my choice to believe or not and I didn’t have to blindly follow my Christian family. As for the stuff in the Bible there are some passages that are mistranslated or taken out of context and there are a lot of metaphors, but what helps me and my faith is I know God loves us because he sacrificed is son for our sins and he gave us free will and the ability to chose. It feels nice to respectfully debate about this although it’s hard to explain over RU-vid comments 😆

I could listen to Christopher Hitchens speak all day, but not every day. It sometimes strikes me as a little sad, because he was sooooo skeptical and pragmatic that I wondered if he ever had any fun. I suppose that's why he abused his body and died too young. He is sort of the quintessential tortured artist/genius. He was definitely both.
Hitchens himself kind of commented on this after his throat cancer diagnosis, saying that people had been writing and emailing to him that God had struck him down because his voice had for so long spoke out against religion and religious figures (which was true only for the last few years of his life) to which he mused that there was another organ of his which was guilty of more blasphemy, which was perfectly fine.
My mom was “healed” by Benny Hinn. She had Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia. She was grasping at straws, as I was only 16, when she was given the diagnosis. She was told 6-12 months, and I was sitting with her when the oncologist and hematologist informed her. Ppl can either believe Christ is who he said he is, or not. Thankfully we’re given a choice. I saw my mom healed over and over again. Many biological problems arise with Leukemia. Her prayer was to be healed of cancer. Her doctors would look at her labs, and they’d say they can’t explain how she was alive. She lived 5 years. I took her on her last trip to the beach in June 1997, 2 weeks later she went to a Benny Hinn “healing service,” and her prayer card was unfortunately chosen for this great healer to personally pray over her. He told her, in order to really show her faith, that God will completely heal her, she must step out in faith, like no other. He said God “told him” the reason she hasn’t been healed of the cancer, is bc she was still taking chemo. Even though she lived longer than anyone with that leukemia, at the time, even her previous labs showed she had 35% myeloid blast cells (circulating in her blood, she had 4% when diagnosed in January 1992, hence the 6-12 months to live.) She stepped out in faith, bc why would anyone lie and put someone’s life at risk, right??? She stopped taking her chemo completely by the first week of July, and died 9 weeks later, on September 6, 1997. Sometimes God uses medications bc he created us to be intelligent human beings. I feel she was supposed to continue taking them, bc God was showing the medical doctors that their statistics aren’t the end all, be all. To have more than 20% of myeloid blastocysts, free roaming in the blood, had never been seen before. She had 35%! 2 weeks before she died, they finally found a bone marrow donor, she was Rh-. By then, she was too weak to receive it. (Remember, she traveled from PA, to North Carolina, back to PA, and then to another state where the service was held. She was fatigued and tired, but was able to walk 1/3 mile from the beach house, to the beach just 7 weeks before she would have had the donor.) If she’d hadn’t been told she’s disobeying God, by continuing treatment, she was 6 weeks away from the life saving bone marrow. This didn’t make me hate God, it made me look at Benny Hinn as a cowardly, “prophet!” I truly hope his last 25 years were Hell, bc mine have been. He’s a horrible human being, and I hope the only reward he reaps, is his money on earth, bc he’s caused millions of deaths, preying on the most vulnerable ppl on earth. He’s disgusting!

I studied in Catholic school (though I was raised Protestant) and I remember how big Mother Teresa was that time. I would become a nurse, and I read about these exposes about her. I am really well disappointed is a major major understatement. I may have to drop an expletive because as a medical professional, willfully putting a patient in pain is TORTURE. Jesus actually healed lepers in the Bible I dunno what she said about him wanting them to remain sick.

My thoughts exactly. I'm a religious person but I can't stand organized religion. Even the small rinky-dink places of worship in my rural area are very shady in terms of having their own agenda. I once sat through a sermon from a preacher encouraging the congregation to donate to some Republican organization that was fighting for bathroom bills and shit because he was tore up about "sexual deviants going into the bathroom with his daughters," as he put it. I'm nonbinary and wasn't out at the time but it was pretty damn awkward. Even the preachers that aren't making a big buck have an agenda and they interpret the bible through their own lens then present their opinions as the God's honest one and only truth. I think it's important to come to your own conclusions and do your own soul searching, but I suppose that's just MY agenda talking 🤷🏻

And as I have learned from people who have studied about scams and cults, anyone can be duped, no matter how smart they are.
