@@imgayasheck595 you shouldn't think that only happens to reactionaries, Bernie Sanders got smeared as a misogynist by Clinton supporters even though he's anything but, and Chomsky in the past wrote an article defending a professor who got fired for questioning the Holocaust, and Chomsky defended his free speech even though he didn't agree with the guy, many college students these days might consider that as Chomsky defending hate speech, though they'd be wrong.
I was thinking the same thing when I saw the sparse crowd. It’s a damn shame people aren’t more aware of Chomsky and even more willing to participate in a sit down with him to ask questions and pick his brain. He’s a living national treasure.
I am sure it was not an open forum. No-one challenged him on anything. If opened up there would be a lot of people of all kinds to attend. It was set up by the student association whose mission is to serve, engage and empower the student body through advocacy, and resources, and the Social and Behavioral Sciences. Chomsky never debates anyone, I think he had like two debates, and once or twice went on William F. Buckley Jr show, and once on the Alex Jones show, so his opinions are only challenged by others challenging his ideas. That said he is a very smart man who has done a tremendous amount of research, but Anarchy is what he describes, which is really not Anarchy, but a collective group with has a say in governance.
BWreSlippySlope 🤨🤨🤨 this was by far the strangest reply I’ve seen. I know it’s not an open forum. My point is, I’m sure there are a helluva lot more students that could’ve attended that event than what showed up. And why should he or would he waste his time debating people who-if they’re anything like that pompous shitbag Buckley-will be disingenuous and talk over him the whole time?? Chomsky’s time on earth is limited. He should only talk to genuine people who have legitimate questions for him at this point and want to learn. Not debate things he’s already been proven right on.
I will be truly saddened when he passes. Once I thought these timeless people will live forever, but I was sadly mistaken when the late-great Stan Lee passed. Everyone's got to go sometime I guess.

Thanks! Gonna use it to split the video and post what I consider the main subjects. I would do it mannualy but you made it easier. Sampa/SP, Brasil - 10/12/2019 - 20:18 [-3 GMT]
I can’t believe the auditorium is half empty. Such an amazing person. I do t think the students on campus realize the “pearl” in their midst. Happy Birthday Noam.
I am not American but I would imagine Arizona is hardly a hub of the kind of radical left thinking that Chomsky espouses. But at least he was there and some heard him. People lets wake up to reality.
I'm in awe every time I watch or listen to Prof. Chomsky. He somehow has the ability to absorb enormous amounts of information and then recall details years later after having sorted everything into a world view that is exceedingly mature and at the same time understandable by ordinary humans. Simply amazing.
Yep his hard drive has far more capacity then almost all of us + he has a pretty good cpu and lots of ram! I'm a 286 that takes 10 minutes to boot and has constant memory faults, sadly..
42 minutes in and I am continuously amazed by how Chomsky will seem to wander in response to a question, or just have missed a piece of the (poorly articulated) idea some kid mumbled into the mic, but always somehow manage to circle back around to every aspect of what was asked. What a blessing to still have this monumental person so lucid in his 90’s...
It's God Damn shameful and reflects poorly on our country that one of the most prominent thinkers of the modern era is giving free intellectual advice to a major university and the room is half-full at best. Apathy in democracy leads to extinction.
Arizona better had been on spring break or something, that crowd is weak for the mind on stage. As always Noam is a gem to be cherished. Thank you sir.
OMG, I cannot believe that this was the number of students who attended this event. The auditorium should've been packed. I feel privileged to live at the same time that Prof. Chomsky lives. Happy Birthday, Prof. Chomsky.
I am a huge fan of professor Noam from Saudi Arabia. I have watched so many of his lectures, read a few of his books and articles. it is a dream to me to meet him in person. I was really shocked when I saw the audience, how come the room is not full. But, this is the reality we live in where great people are not appreciated. Wish you a long life Noam👍🏻.
Brilliant man whose thoughts are so comprehensive because of his vast knowledge and experience. Happy birthday to you Sir, and may you have many more (with good health)!
I was disappointed that a moderator didn't repeat some of the questions to Mr Chomsky while he struggled to hear what he was being asked. It could've saved time and allowed him to respond to the questions exactly as they were phrased.
he's with the dark side, posing as a jedi. Chomsky is a gatekeeper for the oligarchs, will bitch about "capitalism" at length but obfuscate on the central banking system, JFK, 9/11 etc. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EEDf7OkRCxk.html
No surprise in a pro human thinkers' forum. Just a few $ub Human RIGHTurd $TINKER$ like $uper$tinker & Bulldog BULL$HIT!! Bwah! Hahahahahahaahaha. LMFAO.
@@tinapatton7346 Chomsky skirts the key issues, like the Fed debt-based usury monetary system, or the nature of the deep state, offering vague analyses that boil down to "capitalism bad". He's the definition of a gatekeeper, packaging 90% truths in order to hide the big 10% lie.
That's the power of democracy: when you open the mic to common people, a variety of themes enriches the discussion and even the guest gets more dynamic and seems happier with the chalenge. Do it more and open the mic for people outside the academics to ask public intelectuals. We need that blending. Sampa/SP, Brasil - 10/12/2019 - 20:27 [-3 GMT]
It's the mystery that makes life worth living, if we knew everything life would be rather boring. That there are great mysteries - ensures that as long as our species survives it's organic life, life will remain interesting... The great mysteries, perhaps are a form of our organic perceptions that are just learned and observed, and as such tell we are able to function on a higher level of consciousness and awareness of our collective unconsciousness thought, it is highly un likely that we will even begin to understand the great mysteries, because it's based on thought.. Btw certain types of meditation is all about not thinking and moving into oneself with a non mental non thinking clarity. And then there are dreams.... Happy birthday Noam nice office hours talk - very very different from your other talks....
After thoughts - as we enter the 7th Kingdom of life/biology - or the Techneum as its starting to be called - and we attempt to merge with, and emerge within it, there is some possibility we might survive, but my feeling is that our technology will fail us do to our economics. Regarding the unspoken truths within academia - I leave this multiple platitude : "Only fools go where angles dare to tread - but the fool who persists in his folly becomes wise, - in nature is the way, and in the way one finds oneself a connection to everything , sometimes the simple things are the hardest to understand, as in balance within one self and the external world.... and for what it's worth: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-c-M_kVZTf50.html
His spectacular mind is surpassed only by his incredible ability to allow morons like me to see and understand things beyond my vision. I already miss him so much. No one will fill the void he shall leave behind. Thank you Professor.
@@imavileone7360 Oh, it's just being polite and giving some love to whatever institution invited the speaker. That said, they're beside the point for those not in the room at the time. :) (I hesitated to even gently disagree, since you called me a fucking God, and sir, too! :) )
I've so much respect for this man! His explanation of how the public attitude has changed and how Trump is capitalizing on the democratic party's "odd coalition" situation makes sense to me. Also, nobody has explained Trump avoiding the climate change issues and helping the rich get richer this clearly in a language even I can understand :-)
