Ever wondered how to dig up an old Strawberry plant and relocate it? Well, wonder no more. Today, I found an old and forgotten Strawberry plant growing in a dormant area of the garden. It actually looked super healthy, so I'm going to dig it up and replant it in a 5 gallon fabric grow bag! Follow along as rescue this Strawberry plant from certain weed whacker death, and give it new life as a potted specimen!
Sorry for the long one....I know its a Quickie, but really, I trimmed it down as far as I possibly could!

Good advice and to add, I'd never yank anything out of the ground for transplant even if it's a small tree. I always dig it out and use a shovel to lift out of the ground if it's a heavy root ball of a small tree.

After this winter in Alberta I had only 2 strawberry plants survive out of 30 that I planted last year. I had them in a garden bed that is probably better used for other plants,so I’m digging up the lone survivor now that you showed me it can be done!😂 👍👍👍

That's great Brett. If you are dividing crowns, don't worry about age. Just pick the healthiest ones. Its not that Strawberry plants can't live past 5 years....its that 5 years in the same spot, they become too crowded.

I have strawberries in my grow bags, some very large, long grow bags. The problem is the soil has sunk very low and I would like to save the berries and still refill the bags. Do you think I could lift them out this winter, add more soil and place them back it? They are all in grow bags due to the Bermuda grass I get in my garden. Even when raised beds, the Bermuda grass would get in and and choke out the strawberries. Any ideas?????

I'm glued to your strawberry videos. First year growing one alpine verity indoors zone 6a... she has good days and bad days.. I trimmed off all flowers until mid may and got a good bush of leaves ... Now I have about ten berries going and ones turning red already.. but now while fruiting the leaves are burning at the tips or becoming dry.. no excessive heat and keeping soil moist.. every other watering I'm giving tomatoe fert by Neptune and cal mag and ph down by bloom city. Any suggestions on what she may be lacking.. total npk is about 4 4 2... feeling like potassium is too low...

Thanks Derek! For Strawberries, I would stop feeding. Two feedings is all they need unless the pots are small and the watering is excessive. Definitely no feeding while the plant is in flower or especially when it has visible berries. :-)
