I am so happy you found something that works for your family. We are currently using IEW structure and style. My daughter’s writing has improved tremendously and she doesn’t ask for help BUT she doesn’t like it and already asked for a different writing curriculum when she is done with it. She is a reluctant writer and dislikes all the banned words and all the rules. She says she can’t even write what she wants.

I absolutely understand and can relate to everything you are saying. The checklist became such a crutch for my daughter that she wouldn't try to be creative, just check boxes. However, IEW was great at the beginning for teaching her to incorporate the different parts of speech into her writing.

I think we are going to go ahead and sign up for that same three month writing course this fall so we can join the 5/6 writing and lot class in the spring. New to your channel! I have a reluctant writer myself (son is a rising 5th grader). This program is new to me and adding to my list to consider. I watched a previous video you did with IEW that was done a couple of years ago I believe. I was wondering if you still use IEW? You have been very helpful 😀 Thank you so much!

Welcome! I'm so glad you're here. We don't still use IEW. I have a few videos about our IEW journey and updates. We switched to the videos and they were just too long for my daughter. She would space out and miss all of the wonderful teaching that was taking place, which is one of the main reasons that we switched to The Write Journey. Due to scheduling, I am working with The Write Journey to modify how my daughter takes their classes, but we no longer will be using Structure and Style from IEW. Good luck with finding something that your son likes. I can absolutely relate to having a reluctant writer and trying to find what works best!

Thank you for asking! My daughter still loves The Write Journey. We aren't doing it at this moment because of a scheduling issue, but I hope to get back to it.
