All renditions of this song are beautiful no matter who does it and what makes them so beautiful are the lyrics, the melody, the honesty in this song. It is very melacholic but that just lends to the deepness and pain the singer is portraying. Tears for Fears wrote this song and did it first. Everyone else just puts their mark and style on it, they are all ear candy. Love this song and yes, it is..."A very, very mad World."
I always thought this song was really depressing but then i listened to it with another 4 mates, we were really stonned and were singing it out loud and at the end i was REALLY happy and in a great mood because we all felt the same way and i knew i wasnt alone when i felt like this...
I love finding comments like this on RU-vid. The human experience behind all the videos, comments and profiles. I think it also speaks to how important friends are. The world can be very depressing but if we experience it together and for the sake of other people we can see it's true beauty.

This is a original Tears for Fears song from 1983. But I love the R.E.M version because of the somber pace it takes your emotions through. Though a sadder version, certain more to the point of the lyrics to this song.

Tobias Sandow Thanks...I didn't know that. I wonder why they keep posting that R.E.M recorded it? Either way...I like this version better than the Tears for fears 80's version. Both are very good...I just thought this had far more depth and emotion.
Just my humble opinion - but I wish REM had covered it. Seems to me Stipe in his heyday would have poured emotion into it. Still - Jules version is so beautiful - and I do hear similarities in the harmonics of their voices.
This IS the Gary Jules version and has never been recorded by REM (though I do recall them playing it live once though). It suits then vocally very well. The original by Tears for fears was much slower, yes, but just as good.......

I just learnt that tears for fears are the original creator's of this song and I listened to it. Was funky, then came here tfor a cry because this song hits harder.

Tears for Fears did the original cover of this song. But even though it is their song, it doesn't even come close to the acoustic version of it. Right now my favourit is Adam Lambert. He's done the best one so far.
