Two short clips about the Ludendorff Bridge at Remagen captured by elements of the 9th Armored Division on March 7, 1945 giving the Allies their first bridgehead across the Rhine river. The first part is a brief overview of the capture of the bridge while the second part shows the aftermath of the collapse of the bridge.
Public domain footage from CB Nos. 47 & 48 produced by the US Army Signal Corps' Army Pictorial Service.

I just saw this film yesterday. My father, Staff Sergeant Pete Tercha was on the bridge when it collapsed on March 17, 1945. I was 16 months old. I am now 74 years old and have children and grandchildren. I shared this video with them so that they could know more about the grandfather and great-grandfather that they never got to meet. Thank you for the opportunity to do this.

Kudos to the guys who swam out into that river. The water would have been COLD.

That was the tone of voice used by newscasters of that time . Whether they announced victory or defeat or a building being built or being torn down . It had nothing to do with propaganda and is better than today`s news reporting by vapid air heads.

@@seeadler3233 all the announcers (news and sports) then had that corny voice.
