There's shots where Tess looks like an actual person. Incredible.

This just shows how far technology has come especially since u remember the original/remaster are "pre-render" cutscenes instead of real time in game. The expressions and view of small details like tears from shown videos are clear compared to remaster

Tommy’s face when Sarah died… that’s what got me this time. So much more emotion than the original

If anything, this shows how emotionally powerful the dialogue and voice acting was, despite the lack of high detail facial mapping in the original.

The facial animation is on another level. The expressions and emotions really do elevate the scenes

I'm only halfway through but Tess' eyes are SO visibly sad, I'm getting way too emotional seeing a cutscene I've watched a million times over. Absolutely mesmerizing to see them emote, especially in scenes that are already so fraught. Also, Sarah looked like a genuine real person when she showed up, I was shocked. I don't see myself buying it, but I do see myself appreciating from the sidelines, lmao

As much as I love the new graphics, I’ll always have a place in my heart for the OG graphics. New and old look like entirely different people in my opinion

Omg the facial expression on Sarah starting at 5:25 … my god. That scene has never touched me more than it did right now. Jesus - what wonders can better animations make. I was choking back tears

5:05 when Joel turns around to avoid the gunfire, you can briefly see his ear illuminate red because of the light shining through his skin. Its such a small detail but sells it so well.

You can actually really see the emotions in the characters’ faces, like when Sarah died, you can see Joel’s facial expressions with WAAAY more detail and same with Sarah. I cried when I saw that all those years ago, but watching it but with updated graphics ect, it was like watching it again for the first time because you can feel what Joel felt for real this time. And when Henry killed himself, you could see the really shock on Joel’s face when compared to the remastered version of the game. I can go on and on and on about how much better the game is from a realistic and graphical perspective, but you get my point

It's definitely an improvement on paper. I just don't know if I prefer it over the style of the original. Something about the look of late-PS3 games just feels a little more enduringly charming than a total focus on extreme realism to me. Either way, I'm interested to get my hands on this once the price comes down.

The one thing that always bugged me about the original was the white fuzzy glow surrounding the main characters in cutscenes. Glad that has been rectified in the remake.

Why do i feel that joel in the remake version is always sad in his expression even when he is angry in the remastered version

It's amazing how much improved the facial animations are, I really didnt expect that. The camera also feels a lot more dynamic. I love every bit of it.

I love how they look in the remaster/original more, though I can't deny the emotions come across better in the remake. It's weird though, because I feel like Joel's expression in the remaster always got really well across - in most scenes - even in the old style, but for instance Tess, ... she was kinda done dirty if we see the remake. The range of her faces got limited in some way. I wish there was a mix of both styles.

This is gonna sound stupid.. But I wasn't for this remake till I been seeing more and more leaks. And I'm for it! What's crazy is, seeing the original version of the game is like watching the cartoon version.. Seeing the remake is like they found real actors for those cartoons and they came to life.. Game definitely looks good.. Can imagine how it will look on your own tv that's on a good Qled or Oled Edit: the same things are gonna be nice in this game. Example, you can see Ellie in the mirror when Joel was walking away.. Little details there

I know everyone’s saying it but the facial expressions in the remake are so amazing. It makes the original character models seem so static and dated even though we were all just as enthralled by them only a few years ago

Wow, remake Sarah looks so damn cute and real! You can really tell the remake cutscenes have improved on the original version overall, especially when looking at the renewed facial expressions and graphics. I have to say though, the original cutscenes still hold up to today's standards.

Dude. During Sara’s death scene, as Joel is clutching her after she passed, in the remake you can literally see tears roll off his cheeks and nose, with some of them falling directly onto Sara’s face. Needless to say, I am ready for my heart and soul to be demolished by this game, yet again.

That Tess scene was already heartbreaking. It’s absolutely gutting now. Amazing artistry.

Original Tess is better. Her beauty combined with bossiness gave her a semblance of the top dog of the underworld, which she basically was. It was the whole package that instilled confidence and gave her a unique, but grounded sort of edge. Maybe this’ll sound weird, but I felt “safer” at the beginning of the game traveling with her. Remake Tess is notably more… normal. The worst I can say is it doesnt inspire the same feeling of “character” about her, before that illusion of her protag invulnerability is broken down by the bite reveal. She just looks like another joe in the world, which some people will cream their pants about, but in a world full of corrupted joes, just makes her… blend in. I liked her more as a model of strength.

I’ve gone back and forth on this remake a lot in the past two months. But these seemingly little differences make some of the most impactful moments of this game so much more powerful. Joel’s watch getting broken at the same moment that he was broken by the loss of Sarah. Ellie seeing herself in the mirror right before she brings up Sarah. The amazing performances shining through the facial animations perfectly. I can go on but I think you all get the idea.

I remember back in 2012 when this game was climbing the hype charts....then in 2013 was released on PS3 and it was hands down without a doubt the best graphically looking game at that time. Then it got a remaster for PS4 and I was shocked at how much better the game looks kinda felt it should have gotten delayed to release only on PS4.... But now a remake for PS5 with what naughty dog has picked up and learned making TLOU Pt2 just I'm mind blown at much technology has come for devs in this past decade like crazy to see the raw emotions in the faces and the facial animations just bringing the scenes to proper life and to the next level I can't wait for TLOU Pt3

At 2:34 Joel in the original just looks angry but in the remake he has emotion on his face that he's about to lose Tess.

What I also love about the remake is that the camera is wobbly for the dramaticness of the scene, and that some of the angles look different in the remake instead of being static

Call me crazy or nostalgic, but I honestly prefer the original (remastered) version, especially Tess. On a side note, I think Josh Brolin would've been more suitable than Pedro Pascal as Joel in the live action series .

I love that they made Tess and Marlene look more like real people. I never really liked how they both used to look like generic ps3 models compared to Joel and Ellie.

Seeing Joel's watch broken while Sarah is dying adds a new layer of pain to the scene. Awesome level of details.

Joel had a more menacing look to him in the original, I loved that feature about him, the new one looks just too soft for this world, I think his skin is a little too loose, also greatly prefer ellies original model since it made her look way more innocent than the new one. Just my thoughts

Looks absolutely insane. Little clips here and there can look good, for sure, but when you see entire scenes, that’s when it all really comes together.

I'm still prefer the original Tess more than the new one.

The expressions on their faces compared from ps3 to ps5 are amazing . How Joel and Tess expressions are in the videos is awesome , I love last of us 1 and 2 and the same graphics on this is very similar to the ones we saw on part 2

especially when watched closely, -Reflections in glass/mirrors: Unlike the Remastered (and PS3 version) their is no real time reflections in both game and cutscenes for characters in mirrors/glass but in the remake they are present and follow in the scene and gameplay -Much more expressive: I seen ppl still say expressions are better in original and remaster more than remake (this is opinion based btw) but from replaying the remaster and seeing it and compare to the ReMake of the game. The remastered looked too stiff as some characters wanted to cry but face tracking couldnt allow it (might be because of hardware rendering) but show in the characters eyes, for example, have read tint and specular reflection using environment mapping instead of real time rendering) like Sarah crying before she died and when Joel shot the turned companion. , was red tinted to express crying and being scared but in remake, Sarah expressions both eyes and face are more clear and even sadder once see it again (GOD I cant wait to relive this) -The shadows and environment are more accurate: I notice some ppl say in ReMake some areas look dark but lets be honest, in abandon and desolate places why TF u think would be bright? Theirs a reason why they have a flashlight and the HDR is more tone mapped seeing from the videos and screenshots compared to original/remaster, especially in Spore covered environments as in the remaster spore particles was repeatily spread compared to remake. They are still spreaded but the fog/smoke in ReMakes isnt too hard to read from wide FOV. -The attention to detail is more visible: This is noticable in the Tommy and Joel confrontation video, but u can actually see Joel spit with his anger lisps arguement with Tommy of taking Ellie thats not present in the original. -theirs actual rendered blood in cutscene: Visible views are like Henry when he shot himself and see the "OMG" face on Joel and the splatter compared to the original (which is not rendered in prerender cutscene)

is just me or does anyone else think that the remake actually made the characters' facial expressions and their look less realistic compared to the PS4 Remastered version, which made the characters' death and emotional exchanges less impactful? I think apart from Joel, all other female characters' facial structures and sizes have been made slightly bigger. For example that Tess' face has clearly been stretched longer, it's so obvious that the gap between her nose and her upper lip is a lot longer compared to her original look, the same thing with Sarah's face. And that for me made them looked less realistic and uglier than their original look! As for Ellie's look, she does look a lot like the grown-up version of herself in Part 2, but for some reason, I think in order to make her look more like the Ellie in Part 2 that they forgot to make her look like a 14-year-old girl, unlike the original version of Ellie, she might not look like the grown-up version of Ellie in Part 2 but she certainly looked like a 14-year-old girl. On a side note: Does anyone else think that HBO totally miscast the GOT child actress for the role of Ellie for TLOU tv series? Also, I hope and pray that they do not make the TV version of the Part 2 storyline! That has to be one of the worst game franchise sequel stories ever written! It's like watching the final season of GOT all over again!! I mean, talk about a lesson on how not to destroy a most beloved franchise, and its most beloved characters in one go!

I REALLY love how Tess looks. So much more realistic compared to the old design. Also appreciate the age-up given her implied years of experience like Joel (not to mention they had some flirtatious commentary at times. Given the theories, it'd be weird if he did date a woman in her late 20s/early 30s).

I dunno, I may be the only one who thinks the original looks better. Tess looks like an old lady, they've put an extra 8 years on Joel and they've made Ellie look older. I'm not sure why they've had to make everyone older. The lighting looks better in the original in some respects too.

Hated how people complained about Joel and Tess' looks in the remaster as if they haven't been through the most stressful situations since the apocalypse started.

Love both, but i do have to say i like Joel's face in the OG when he yells better, he actually looks more exasperated and mad with Tess, in the new one he looks sad and tired, which is understandable due to everything he's been through but, thats just my observation.

The graphics are incredibly impressive but the absolute top thing here is the facial animations. These characters have been brought to life, living and breathing on the screen. I’ve seen these cutscenes a million times but suddenly I find myself getting emotional again when Sarah dies and when Ellie kills David. It is completely drawing me in.

In my opinion the young Joel in original game is better than remake

how cool would it have been if they’d turned the HBO adaptation into CGI. they could’ve kept the same actors and everything. considering Stranger Things season 4 alone was 30 million per episode, take as much time for the show as is necessary, because i mean what they’ve been able to achieve with this remake in terms of graphics and facial animations alone, on top of simply keeping everything the same overall adds onto how easy it could be. i’m also thinking of something like Love Death + Robots where they put out quality episodes that have graphics that look very similar to this. sure it takes a while but i think it’s always worth it in the end.

When it comes to Tess's bite mark, I like the OG more the remake mark. reason being in the OG the mark spread within that hr, but in the remake it hadn't; yet she still said it gotten worse than Ellie's mark, but they look the same.

It saddens me that people prefer the colder, higher graphical fidelity of the remake over the stronger artistic design of the original. The OG looks better. The more striking lighting adds so much to the atmosphere. The remake just looks like another Unreal Engine game

8:15 I cannot understand why they changed it from joel turning to joel just death staring Ellie. Tommy’s entrance is very abrupt and would startle anyone, especially someone who’s been snuck up on for the last 20 years this just makes Joel look inhuman and strange. Side note: of all the emotions the new face of Ellie demonstrates in this scene none of them display nearly as much sadness/complexity as the original did, and yet Joel’s new model performs superbly. Kind of strange since they changed her face to reach increased facial fidelity between Ashley and the game model.

At the scene when Joel and Ellie have an argument, you can clearly see how Ellie try holding back her tears, also the the expression of the remake version is being improve so much

People don’t really mention the subtle shakiness of the camera. I love it, it makes you almost feel like another person/spectator who is with them for the whole journey

For me, Sarah's death is one of the saddest deaths in gaming history, but there's something about Sam's death and Henry's that just gets to me on another level, something about two brothers surviving together and the older brother having to put his younger brother out of his misery and killing himself after is just tragic and just makes me sob everytime.

Something about the lighting from the original game is more appealing to me. I mean some of the new character stuff is cool but overall I still like the original more.

The graphics bro, I loved the original, PS3 graphics, They were the best back then, The remake looks so good, matches the second game like it should

While I can tell there is a clear increase in graphics and visual fidelity, and obviously the facial animations are far better than the original; I can't help but feel like in the effort to achieve photo realism, the remake now looks like it lost a sense of identity in terms of art style. The original, while of course has its issues, felt a bit grittier and more dramatic. More intense visually. Colors popped more in some scenes. The remake lacks contrast, color, and depth in certain scenes that, in my opinion, it detracts from the art style in a way that it makes it look like any other photo realistic game.

Why do I feel the original looks better? I hope when this comes out the fidelity from personal gaming is better then the stream quality, I know that tends to be the case sometimes.

Having seen the live version they did of Tess's scene, it feels so much like that version did. You can really feel the performances of the actual actors coming through.

All these years later and the deaths of Sarah, Sam and Henry still hit hard. Sometimes I can't watch it.

People were dunking on the remake for the overhaul. I’m sorry, but the remake looks like it has actual people in it. Those subtle facial animations are out of this world. You can really see emotions far more than you could in the original.

I love how the characters seem aged more appropriately and convincingly in the remake. I always thought Tess is much younger than she actually is, due to lack of aging features in her face. Even real life Asian women still have visible aging as they get older. Also the facial animations are much more convincing than the original. I could gosh on more on how technically impressive the remake is, on graphical, modelling, and animation stand point. Not to mention all of the cutscenes being real time this time around.

Wow. The facial expressions and the animation is so much better. Ellie's face and Sarah's face look so much more real. But, Tess and Henry look like different "people" from the original. Different face shapes, noses, chins. It's kinda weird. It's like a remake of a movie with different actors, heh. 😉 I wish HBO had just done a motion capture CGI series instead of using live actors for the upcoming series. (And used the actors from the game). Don't know how much time that would take and the cost, of course, so it might not have been feasible. But, hey, they could at least have had Pedro Pascal grow a beard for crying out loud. The look is kind of iconic. From footage I've seen, he only has a mustache. That's not Joel. I hope the show is good and they don't ruin anything.

Original Joel's "Troy Baker" eyes are clearly missing from the remake. He looks like a completely different person, it's almost uncanny. I wish they had kept him closer to his original look.

Why does Tess' face look completely different? I mean Joel and Ellie look more real but their facial structures are still the same. Tess doesn't only look 30 years older but her face is completely changed.

The talent of the Naughty Dog devs is unbelievable. The emotion in every scene is out of this world. Say what you will about tlou 2 and the writing but these are visually incredible.

Everyone saying they liked the old "doll" Ellie is insane. This new remake Ellie looks so good, and most importantly looks more like Ashley, further helping the lip sync/facial animation process.
