I like your review! You have two other options that might work for you. The first is an iPad with an Apple pencil and a screen protector called "Paperlike." The second option is Kindle Scribe, which allows you to take notes. From what you are saying, Kindle is not an option because you cannot sync with a desktop counterpart to keep working on the notes. On the other hand, the iPad option can be a good solution if you want to carry one single device that can be used for more than notes.

This is a really good review IMO. Returning it might be a good idea, the limitations you spotted (I am a product person too) are real and I can see how it could increase frustration. At the end, what did you decide?
