I knew about WCE 906, but now, I learned a lot more about it! Now, I know this is the only MP36PH-3C in Canada, and that thanks to this, they no longer have to borrow Sounder's own 906 (or Via's F40PHs... or even CP Rail's freight locomotives; I didn't know WCE leased any of those locomotives) as a backup. Thanks for posting this!
i've seen this unit personally, multiple times. It's a fun engine. it's fitted with one of those funky sounding transtronic E-bells (which only about half of the engines in the WCE fleet have)
I've always liked 906. Maybe it's just because I like WCE's Paint Scheme, and it looks great on all of their equipment. And also, 906 had an outstanding K5LA back then, even though it's sadly been replaced with a horrible K5CA-LS. But it does now have one other distinction you forgot to mention. It is the one and only MP36 with a Transtronic Bell. There's also a Cab Car Counterpart to 906, which is 109, a spare Cab Car built alongside their extra coach order in 2010. Hardly anyone knows about this unit, though, and photos and videos of it are generally quite scarce. Also, at 2:17, that photo is actually from before WCE Started, and since their own coaches were being delayed, they were leasing GO coaches for testing. Hardly any photos of these tests exist. And the only thing that's actually known is that the Cab Car they leased is the mythical GO 224, a unit so elusive, that even Amtrak 819 was seemingly commonly photographed in comparison.
Fun fact with the Sounder 906. Due to certain rules from the US revolving around leased out equipment, every 6 months or so the unit would have to be moved across the border for inspection. To do this, CP would have the Sounder F59PHI lead the CP Sumas turn to Sumas Wa and push the unit across the border there. This is the only time I can think of one of those units being in freight service.
I didn't know about that! I can't think of any other time an F59PHI (or any other kind of F59) has ever been used for _freight_ service. I wonder if there are photos or videos for this. Thanks for the information!
Passengers would also complain about the doors, emergency lighting only, and no Climate Control when they leased freight locos without HEP. The automatic door system requires HEP on the Bombardier Coaches
True! In fact, I've even seen some of these MPI F40s myself! Until February 2021, the _Coaster_ commuter train in my home city of San Diego, California, used five MPI F40PHM-2C locomotives (built in 1995, making them about the same age as the WCE F59PHIs) and two of its own F59PHIs. In fact, these F40s are featured in this video, too: at 0:07, you can see one of the Coaster F40s, while at 1:07, a similar locomotive for Altamont Corridor Express (also built by MPI) is seen. Thanks for the comment!
I find it interesting that the MP36's aren't really much of a thing in Canada because GO Transit decided to go with the MP40's and in recent times a bunch of MP54AC's which I saw a lot of them while in Collage at a campus where I could see the Oshawa GO Station when I was on break. It was interesting seeing those MP40's and MP54's bring in 10-20 Bi-level car consists into the station, even more so when they had to double up on power for the longer trains.
Agreed. I forgot to mention in the episode that WES is the only commuter agency to roster cafe cars nowadays, and the only bombardier cafe cars for that matter
In all seriousness, could you please not @ everyone in the comments? I received complaints from the last video that it was hard to navigate through because of that and it floods my comments section on RU-vid Studio. Thank you.
General question, how did you find out this information about 906? I genuinely searched everywhere and could only find the information from the sources listed in this video description.
@@Pensyfan19 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ruSKfEiGOg8.html has video of 906 with a Transtronic Bell, and the fact itself is from Superbaddy4, although it's known that MPI built them by default with Graham White 373 Electronic Solenoid Bells
@@Pensyfan19 Also, I've confirmed that all of Metrolink, Caltrain, Sounder, UTA, RailRunner, Metra, Sun Rail, GO, MARC, and VRE's don't have Transtronics
1. *Ooooohhhh....* back when YT had stars. 2. Please do not @ people in the comments sections since I received complaints from fans about it being hard to navigate through.
