Remastered Grundig Majestic SO161Ua antique stereo console, radio, phono record player, reel, tubes 

GRUNDIG consoles reign supreme.....! They are absolutely gorgeous and I recall that magnificent rich, lush sound. Nothing, not even component hi fi can play a record & sound that good! I wish I could afford one.....

This is very cool! I have a Grundig KS 752 U Solid State Console. Not as nice a machine as the majestic for sure, but still very cool. It’s from about 1968 I believe. The speakers work really well. I took out the old turntable, which was crappy and replaced it with a Dual 1228. Attached a modern preamp, and it’s a great stereo system. The radio radio was working, and then the string or wire or belts that is connected to the tuning knob, broke or fell off. I want to get in there and fix it, but I don’t have much of an idea about what I would be doing and wouldn’t want to ruin anything. Don’t suppose you’re in Southern California, are you? I live in Los Angeles. I’d love to get the tuner fixed. And, probably couldn’t hurt to have someone look at the insides and see if anything needs to be replaced or cleaned. Though, as I said, the speakers and, by association, I suppose, the amplifier, work great. Anyhow, if you had any suggestions, I’d be open to them. And if you’re not in Southern California, if you know anybody who is that works on these things…

Hi JMusic, Watched the whole restore Parts 1&2, very good, thanks. We had one in the 60's growing up and we played that thing until the cows came home. It was fun, but when we moved, I imagine it was left with all the junk for the dump. The exposed lines on the bottom, not good, put it in an electrical box, so an inquisitive youngster poking around does not get electrocuted. Your vids are very nice and to the point, good work getting it back to working, and btw, nice touch w/ the lighting.

You probably already figured this out, but the tape player won't energize until you turn the lever on the right to one side or the other. The turntable you have to lift the tone arm and push it a little bit to the record before it turns on I believe.

That Grundig GW-11 record changer is very difficult to restore. It was built by Staar / Stare in Belgium. Grundig only used that record changer for a year or two.

My grandparents had one of these for years, also in their pool room in Florida for years, we used to play pool all night, and listen to the rock radio in Ocala or Orlando on it. I recall theirs had a full shortwave radio as well as AM/FM. I don't think theirs had the reel to reel player.

What is the price for these second hand usually??

This unit has a turntable not a record player. It was normal to close the lids after a record was placed on the turntable to play. Now with that switch you added the unit would shut off after closing the lid. Thats why it was not there from Grundig.

Reel to Reel player is Model "TM60". Round knob on left hand side is "Record" button, turning it and then pressing selects "superimpose". (you have to press "play" as well). Three switches on front right with symbols are record inputs - "Phono", diode" (used for connection to tuner-amp chassis if I am not mistaken) and "Micro(phone)". There should be an extra box on a cord connected to the tape recorder with three sockets on it - these are for microphone connections. The thing is full of old wax and paper capacitors that will have to be replaced if you ever want it to work. It is also only a 2 track stereo model - ignore the label. The 4 track stereo version was the (very rare) TM64.
