The biggest lesson in this movie is that nothing brings people together more then a good “yo mamma” joke. 😂🤣😂

I love this movie and when people react to it. If you don't know, Gerry Bertier did go on to become a Paralympic athlete - the Paralympics are equal to the Olympic games for disabled athletes. Unfortunately, Gerry had the terrible luck of being killed in a second car accident 10 years after the accident that paralyzed him that you see portrayed in this film.

The little girl, Coach Yost's daughter, is played by a young Hayden Panettiere. This is one of my all-time favorite movies.

Wood Harris is a criminally underrated actor 👌

I actually graduated from this high school class of 2010. Loved my time there and I was the physical trainer aid/water girl for the football team. The team got to meet the real coach Boone. I loooooved this movie growing up. It was very cool to later attend the school. Once a titan akways a titan ❤️

What's sad is the real life Sheryl Yost died in 1996 at the age of 34 cause of a heart problem. 5 years before this movie was made. I guess they decided not to mention that because it would have been too sad

When coach gave his daughter the finger thump. I felt that viscerally. My dad never raised a hand, but that thump and a stern look could set you straight in a heart beat.

The way Disney portrayed the friendship and bond between Gerry and Julius was just beautiful. I still tear up when Julius goes to the hospital to see Gerry and he drops the brother line. Varsity Blues is another football movie I remember really enjoying. Not sure if you’ve seen it but it’s a goodie.

Watched this movie with some of my old fraternity brothers who are all white (I’m black). By the end of the movie the entire room was in tears. Such a heartwarming experience to see how much they appreciated this movie just like me. Times have certainly changed, even if we still have a long way to go! Great reaction from you guys. Still love this movie. My heart broke when Gary got hurt. especially when she announced Gary passed away. The scene between Denzel and Donald Faizon still gets me. "Put your hand down....You smiling. ...Why are you smiling?" 😂😂😂

Another good football movie with Matthew McConaughey is We Are Marshall. Based on a true story 1970, Marshall University and the small town of Huntington, W Va, when a plane crash claims the lives of 75 of the school's football players, staff members and boosters. I remember watching this movie in college and, creative license aside, loving it. And, then I moved- to Alexandria, VA a decade ago. It's home. TC Williams was renamed last year, but it's campus is still there and was rebuilt about 15 years ago. Not to say there aren't any issues, or a few corners where racism still remains, but largely this is an economically, culturally and socially diverse place- that is welcoming to most everyone. November was the 50th anniversary of the team's undefeated season, but unfortunately Petey Jones (Faison), Herman Boone (Denzel), Bill Yoast (Will Patton) and Julius Campbell (Wood Harris) all died within a 15 month span from late 2018 to early 2020. Petey had just retired from working in the school district for over 30 years and died shortly thereafter. This really is a good place to live and the real Titans team that inspired the movie in the first place is a big reason for that. Hollywood may have immortalized it in film, but the reality and long term impact is even better. The people who have been here for 50 years will attest to that even more than I can.

Growing up in Texas, all our history teachers (who were also the football coaches) would always show us this movie when we had free days😭😂

you know, this movie was very inspirational to me. These kids and the coaches are heroes in my book. It's been over 20 years since this was made, and I have seen very few movies since that are as honest and inspirational about how things really were. One of my favorite scenes is when Yost is telling Boone to let up on the kids a little bit, Boone responds by telling him that you're not doing the black kids any favors by cutting them any slack. You would never hear that in a movie today. They focus more today on blaming others and creating victims. But then again I find myself more and more watching movies that are 10-20 years old because everything now is too political and depressing.

The coach that Denzel Washington portrayed in the movie Herman Boone, was physically abusive with his players and would often get into fistfights with them if they refused to cooperate with their training. Boone would end up getting fired from his coaching job in 1979.

This is hands down one of my favorite movies. You guys nailed it, the lessons that can be taken away from this is enormous. I cry every time at the end, even with this reaction.

I played football in highschool. Runningback and outside linebacker I was very good. My coach said to me after i graduated i was one of the biggest waste of talents he ever saw. And thats because i didnt LOVE it. I felt like i did but i didnt love it with all my being. But thats why i respect football. Its one of those sports that if you dont love with all your heart..you will get left behind and nothing good will come from it. You will get left injured for life and full of regret. You need to be an absolute monster, physically AND mentally to be good enough to make it.
