Al McCoy, the "Voice of the Suns" for 51 seasons, has died at the age of 91. ABC15 is taking a look at McCoy's career and his impact on the Phoenix Suns and the Valley.
His voice brought the game in to the house through the radio. I felt like I was on the court. Listened to Al for over 30 years. You're a legend and will be forever missed.
God Bless, thanks for all the fun joy sadness heartache and laughs you gave us/me while I was growing up. so many nights listening to the radio listening to you call games. Thank you and my Condolences to your family and friends.
41 years listening to his sweet sweet voice. I’ve been emotional all night hearing this. God bless you Al. I’ll never forget you and your voice all my years being a suns fan. Rest in peace. And Shazam my friend. 😞
I moved to the Phoenix area in 2013. As I would drive in the evenings I was drawn to the radio broadcasts of the Suns. That guy was really good, I thought. That guy was Al McCoy. I thought about how he called the game even though the Suns were awful then. I never cared much about NBA before then but he was the reason I started paying attention to the Suns.
What a wonderful man- I remember listening to him in Prescott in the 70's before we got a TV, and in the truck as we headed out fishing. Thanks Al, RIP.
