Please join me in this video, Remembering Brenda De Banzie: An Acting Legend.
Brenda de Banzie appeared in major films such as Hobson's Choice, The 39 Steps, The Pink Panther, and Too Many Crooks to name but a few - as well as several television appearances, especially throughout the 1960s.
Brenda de Banzie appeared in approximately 40 films. Almost all of them were huge successes and yet Brenda de Banzie never became as famous as she deserved to be!
Her first and foremost preferred medium was the theatre. She had an excellent run of top-billed West End performances in the early 1950s, including "Venus Observed" with Laurence Olivier and "Murder Mistaken," in which she played a wealthy hotel owner whose husband is plotting to kill her for her money.
I take flowers to the famous grave of this wonderful vintage star and look at her astonishing career as we take a walk through the historic Brighton & Preston Cemetery and learn more about the fabulous Brenda de Banzie!

She is one of those fine actors that any film she appears in makes you impossible to imagine that film without her! Although she is part of so many legendary films, her performance in "Too Many Crooks" is a "guilty pleasure" treat and so much fun to watch whenever it comes by.

I only discovered Hobsons's Choice, the 1954 version, by accident just over a week ago and have lost count of how many times I have watched this gem of a movie. I had never even heard of Brenda de Banzie but just loved every second she was on camera. My parents were working class from London's east end and Halifax so I was familiar with those environments and the way the class system worked in the Victorian age. This movie was a classic portrayal. Such a tragedy that they lost Brenda on the operating table at a relatively young age.

Thanks so much for sharing! I'm a London girl too, so I really connected with the way 'Hobson’s Choice' portrays that era and those environments. Brenda de Banzie is such a treasure in this film - her performance is unforgettable. It’s amazing how a film can pull you in and make you want to watch it over and over again. It’s so sad we lost her too soon, but what a legacy she left behind! Thank you again for your comment and for watching the video - it's very appreciated xxxx

Hobson's Choice was recommended to me by a friend. Don't know why I decided to watch it other than I love movies. I do not regret watching this film in fact I'd recommend it to anyone that loves these old movies. It's a classic!!! The cast is superb, the acting is first rate. Brenda stole the show. Her and John Mills and, even Laughton, are masterful in this production. Hard not to put this film in my Top 10 best films to watch. Because it's available "free" on RU-vid I watch this movie almost daily because it warms my heart and keeps me company. The hour and forty-eight minute film moves so quickly that I'm disappointed that it finishes. I fell in love with Brenda when I first viewed the movie. She is part of my family as is the rest of the cast. I don't think this was made available in the USA back in 1954, but thank goodness for RU-vid so I could see it in 2024!

I do agree with you entirely about the wonderful cast - they were all superb! It's wonderful to hear how much you've connected with the film and Brenda in particular she was unforgettable - I just adore her in As Long as They're Happy and superb in The Man that Knew too Much and her versatility as an actress really shines through in Too Many Crooks - I really do love her! I'm so glad RU-vid made it possible for you to enjoy such a classic as Hobson's Choice xxxx

I just love 'Hobson's Choice', which really is one of the best films for acting. DeBanzie, Mills, and the old chap who did the father, are all fantastic actors, and the supporting cast are also great. They could really act strongly in those days, and portray so much character. I have watched this film several times. Also, when films are black and white there is far less distraction for the senses of the viewer, and so the actors and the storyline get more attention.

100% agree with everything you’ve said!!!! Charles Laughton was the father - he was a truly magnificent actor! I think the black and white also gives a great atmosphere - I love B&W films! "Hobsons Choice" is an old time favourite of mine. In tho 70's at secondary school our English teacher Mr Stott had us read it, then with each chapter he'd change the pupils playing the characters so everyone in the class had a turn at playing a part. One day in the school holidays "Hobsons Choice" was on TV and I felt compelled to watch it, I thoroughly enjoyed it and had a crush on Brenda even though Prunella Scales was in the cast. I've always liked the acting skills of Sir John Mills he was so versatile, from "Ice Cold in Alex" to the simpleton in "Ryans Daughter", his brilliant acting skill made these characters real. I watched your video on Bernard Bresslaw and the recommendation to watch "Too Many Crooks", ahhh there was Brenda. I did enjoy the film and all the familiar faces. Thank you, I've liked and Subscribed, now I'm looking for Sir John Mills.

It's lovely to hear how "Hobson's Choice" made such a lasting impression on you, from your school days with Mr. Stott to discovering the film on TV. Brenda de Banzie had a charm that clearly captivated you, even alongside the talented Prunella Scales. And Sir John Mills, what a versatile actor indeed! His ability to bring characters to life is truly remarkable. I will definitely be covering his life and work as I love him so much - I named one of my daughters after his daughter Hayley who I absolutely adore! I'm glad you enjoyed the video on Bernard Bresslaw and "Too Many Crooks"-it's always a treat to spot familiar faces in classic films. Thank you for liking and subscribing! As I said I'll definitely be covering Sir John Mills in the future so please stay tuned!

I've watched a few "Then & Now" video's, they seem to have been done by someone who's maybe watched the programmes the celebrities have been in and just commented on the the actors that appeared in the show, with basic comments like, they were this age in the show and they are this age now or unfortunately they died at this age. Your presentations are more in depth giving an insight into the life of the person. Your research of them brings us closer to them, I feel their highs when they're up and the despare when they're down. These artist bring their craft into our homes with their skills they make the characters come to life and we believe in them. That's craftsmanship if ever I saw it. I also appreciate the the research and work you must put in, it must be a labour of love. I've watched a few of your video's, I'm going to revisit them and make sure I like and comment on them. I've seen on some channels not only a like and share but also a Super Thanks, I've never been inclined to Super Thank before but am inclined to do so now, how can I do that ?

Thank you so much Colin, for watching and sharing your thoughts! Brenda de Banzie was truly remarkable in Hobson's Choice, and I completely agree-her performance in that role was unforgettable. It’s interesting how, despite not achieving the same star status as some of her contemporaries, her talent and accomplishments still shine through. She was such a great at comedy and dramatic parts too, she really didn't get the proper recognition that she deserved 😊 xxxxx

I have really enjoyed this video on Brenda de Banzie. The reason being is, I watched a video of a film she was in called “Hobsons choice “ if you haven’t seen it, then watch it and you’re in for a treat. Anyway, she played a wonderful part in it and blended so well with John Mills character, a shoe maker. I found that film so fascinating as I can draw straight comparisons with the shoe makers life, except I’m a vehicle repairer. I would love to find a person like Brenda played in that film. Brenda de Banzie has always been a favourite of mine, I also love her in the 'Thirty Nine Steps' around the 1950's version starring Kenneth More. Hobsons Choice is an all time favourite film of mine, and became even more so when I discovered in my own family history a real life "Hobson". My great grandfather was born into a working class family and went to work in a foundry. He met and married a lady who was from and more upper middle class family. She set about his education especially in music and he became active in his church as a choir director. He was gifted a silver trowel and a baton at one time in his life. I don't posses these but another lady has them including his bible.

She was marvellous! I always put the flowers in water if there is a container provided and water close by - If you look at other videos such as Carol White, Imogen Hassall and many others there were containers on the monuments - I never leave plastic cellophane - and I always try to place the flowers on grass where possible - so nature can take it’s course and the flowers can enrich the earth - in some cases crematoriums ask you to leave flowers in specific places and I always respect and abide by the rules 🌹
