Yeah it’s sad you don’t feel the energy from these gyms today like LA Fitness, Planet Fitness etc. I grew up in Mi and have been lifting the weight since 78. All I had to work out at was Vic Tannys back then. I lived too far from the original Powerhouse in Detroit. Even though that’s all I had, I could just feel the energy from the magazines I subscribed to back then seeing all the top pro’s training at Gold’s gym in Venice and I was 2,000 miles away! I don’t think you could ever replicate those days again. It’s like that with a lot. Many were crazy about the muscle cars back then too and we couldn't bring that back either because it wouldn't be the same.
This radio show was all about the last few min. The Steve Blechmen thing had me rollin!! I forgot his voice really sounded like that. Dave and John have a perfect impersonation! Hilarious!!
Love that you are giving props to Dan Duchaine, I bought a magazine subscription to Muscle Media 2000, because of him!!! Thanks to Bill Phillips and Charles Poliquin, for also catching my interest too!!! That was a very special time, Bill Phillips exposed, Joe Weider and all the Olympia contenders were on steroids!!! I have Body Opus also, Dan Duchaines book!!!
I used to buy muscle media 2000. Definitely exposed the bullshit by Joe Weider publications. Didn’t follow any of the “supplements “ regimes suggested by Dan but loved the candor of the articles.
@@andrewcheatle4691 yeah no worries, I've also been looking for it again but having trouble finding it, it goes for about 6 hours. I'll link it if I find it again.
once again another great show... picked up Dan's Body Opus at the urging of an online friend and former contributor to MMI, Mark "Poppa" Lewis,... pretty sure he said that this was/is one book every bodybuilder needed in their library... coming off the shelf again soon for another read through..thanks guys..great stuff
Golden Age Gold's Gym was like STUDIO 54 - it defined a culture and a movement. Someone needs to make an in-depth Documentary about Gold's Gym's history - I'll bet that there's a ton of stories and material that is highly informative and entertaining.
Gotta give the women their recognition. To my knowledge, the first pro competitor to compete exclusively in only one pro show 'til retirement was Cory Everson, who did only the Ms. O from '84-'89. After her was Lenda, who only competed in the Ms. O from 1990-2004 with no other shows in between. Iris dominated both the Ms. O and Ms. International, exclusively, for a decade.
Definitely love the idea of a pro league champ. Would spark new life and interest to follow bodybuilding much closer and gain much more interest and want into live stream for all pro shows great idea guys👍👍👍
Abbott is the third nubain you're thinking of besides Astra and DuPont. Abbott was usually three or four dollars cheaper and came in a plain black and white, or white with black lettering box. I always preferred that to Astra. Never saw how dieting would be easier, as nubain always made me hungry as fuck. Coming off that shit was worse than coming off straight opiate agonists like heroin. The acute withdrawal lasted well over 3 weeks whereas heroin (or Vicodin) only lasted 3 days. With nubain, withdrawal on day 40 was just as bad as day 3. And overall lasted about 12 weeks, and that was after(!) 5 days of a "high" dose of temgesic, then 10days of 1/2 that dose, then 8 weeks of decreasing doses of tramadol/ultram.
Great discussion! Ronnie would win the Olympia then head over seas to the Grand Prix and battle another 3-4 shows. Going against Levrone, Cormier... true champions!
Read about GHB in one of Duchaines books 21 years ago when I first getting started with "supplements." That's one hell of a party drug. Had to stop. That stuff will f you up.
I remember walking into golds venice in 1999 asking how much a membership was. 600/yr the guy told me. That was a shitload of money for a gym membership back then. I didnt join lol.
@@latman1 So long as they set the right example whilst their alive and have assets to keep the family going after they die who cares, it's better than having no kids.
Brandon Curry is a bad example. It isnt about him holding his condition but he is a family man and he hadnt seen them in 4 months. The money isnt worth leaving his family. Remember he has to leave again in a month an half to go back to Kuwait and leave his family again. As a father you should understand that.

@@tommasonastasi98 has RXmuscle been around for 10 years even? I signed up to their forum the first day it went online. Maybe they should up their game and make it a video and come into the 21st century
You clearly do not understand how hypertension works. Why don't you use a shit ton of salt and water and see if you suddenly have more plaque in your arteries causing your HBP.
@@Hittdogg17 LoL, very well said. Maybe check out the works of world renown cardiologists and researchers like Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Dr. Neal Barnard, Dr. Dean Ornish, Dr. Kim A Williams, as well as some other Doctors like Dr. Garth Davis, Dr. John Mcdougall, Dr. Michael Greger, and Dr. Joel Kahn to name a few. Just FYI, I am a huge fan it's just a common error that people want to continue with their bad habits so they have confirmation bias.
The constant bashing of Blechman is old. There's a sizable percentage of the audience who don't know who he is. Magazines have been dead for a decade. You're dating yourselves by constantly bringing him up.
