Eleanor Roosevelt was probably the one person, living or dead, that I admire most in the world. She will always be a hero to me, because she managed to lift herself out of very unfortunate circumstances and become a very productive person who did a great deal of good in the world. I just wish that I had been around when she was doing a lot of her good work.
I read when Eleanor visited the troops in the Pacific in WW2, it was something the soldiers hadn't seen in a long time - a mother figure. It meant so much to them - touring musicians, actors, and actresses could not come close to replicate. Eleanor recognized that many of the soldiers would not return home and toured troops, hospitals, and cemeteries sun up to sun down. Reading about this brought me to tears, knowing my father also served in the Pacific. Just a small sliver of the most remarkable American of the 1900's or possibly ever.
Now that was a broad & I use the term with much respect. She also had more balls than many men of her time. She made her life count & left the world better because she was in it. Thank you 🙏Mrs. R.
Why do we always qualify people like Eleanor as one of the most important WOMEN in the world....she was one of the most important and remarkable PERSON....HUMAN....man or woman in the world.
Historical context. Women didn't generally have political power and influence. Referencing gender or race doesn't automatically exclude/disqualify someone from the human race.

Kaylon Centers Her grandmother Hall was the one that raised her and her brother. I agree TR never “raised” her and her brother. That’s not to say he didn’t take an interest in them. I’m sure he did but he wasn’t involved in their daily care. Poor things didn’t really have much of a childhood.
@@susanschmitt115 After the Elliott Roosevelts died, and Mrs. Hall was raising the young Roosevelt children, there was a sort of schism between the Halls and Roosevelts. Mary Hall hadn't really wanted her Roosevelt grandchildren to be strongly influenced by the Roosevelt family; oppositely, Edith Roosevelt had a bias against Eleanor because of the alcoholism of the latter's father, so hadn't made much of an effort to invite her niece and nephew over often. Annually, though, Eleanor and her brother were able to visit their uncle at Sagamore Hill for a few days. Corinne Robinson--- Theodore's sister, Eleanor's aunt, had their niece over to her home for a Christmas party that Corinne held at her home for the kids every year. I think the Roosevelts were deeply concerned about Eleanor's future, much more so than they were about her brother, and Theodore's sister, Eleanor's aunt Anna Cowles essentially insisted that Mary Hall send Eleanor to a boarding school, and suggested Allenswood in England. Anna, or Bamie, as she was known in the family, had attended a school in France that was directed by Marie Souvestre, which was later moved to England, because known as Allenswood. So you're right, the influence of the Roosevelts is what ended up being the saving grace in charting the course for her future.
My goodness but Jane Sanders has some very important shoes to follow , I think it is possible that she is perhaps the most Progressive chance we have ! It is Jane that goes to see the Immigration folks and comes back and tells Bernie of the horrific conditions and fear they live in . About the nightmares the children have ! Bernie talked to the teachers of these children and heard more of the fear of these American born children in all grades from pre thru highschool who Struggle to Learn while they have horrible fear their parents will be taken while they are gone or that ICE will come and take them away from school !! It is Jane that talks and videos the children on Reservations and tells Bernie of the Abuse of the Government on Native Land , the killings of Native girls around oil and mining facilities in Arctic and off reservation Killing of Native Girls throughout America and the Limit of investigating put on Native Law Enforcement off reservation because of NO SOVEREIGNTY for Native People ! So Bernie goes and talks to folks in several places in this country, sees for himself the widespread poverty and the holding of culture by a strong connection to earth air water sky and realizes that we can help each other , The World's Indigenous with the countries of the world (ALL NATIONS COMING TOGETHER) can Battle Our Greatest Enemy ... The Climate Crises ! The Sanders see a world that can come together and in helping Each Other we can leave a Healthy Planet For Our Children's Children's Children........ Peter Winkler The me centered nature of these on air "historians" would have made historians cringe. In their day it was the actual chronicle of persons and events etc.that constituted their work, not catering to our self centric way of relating to history. Read the ancients, Gibbons, etc.and the author is practically invisible.
No comparison at all; Eleanor Roosevelt was an educated intellectual woman, Melania Trump is a superficial, not smart woman who like her step-daughter live in a superficial world very far from the world of well read intelligent women.
