I grew up in the hip hop era.... Chuck D was a hero to me, I used to think Elvis was a racist, but the deeper I delved.... I saw nothing but a beautiful human being who produced some great music. Anyone who concludes Elvis was a racist is just ignorant. May his memory live on.
Elvis was a wonderful human being who didn't care about race he saw the person not the colour a lot like myself my mother grew up on Michael Jackson I took a lot of stick growing up but It never stopped my passion 4 man's music and talent bottom line is elvis along with Michael were kings ❤❤❤
Agree...I am a big fan of Elvis and people asked me, why Do I like him saying he was racist. Believe it or not I get upset and told them that he was not. I also told them if they follow up all the great news about him and the people who had been around him who Said he wasn't, then they would have known that he wasn't racist. I loved everything and still do about Elvis.
It make me happy to know that are some people like yourself who have it in them to not listen to whats being said and to investigate matters and find out the truth. Elvis was a great man who did not see the color of a person. He loved all people and was from childhood influenced by black gospel and r&b Elvis refused to play in texas unless they allowed his black back up singers thats a white man standing up for black women in the 70s sad as it is to say that was unheard of at that time Elvis was and will always be one of a kind, who did not see the color of a person but only the character and decency of the people he met, so to you camouflage I have the utmost respect for you to investigate and find the truth, I wish all of us both black and white would do the same before making judgement. I wish you good luck in all that you do
I was actually in the same boat as you. People telling me this man was a racist, and causing me not to want to listen to his music or being ashamed, but as I do my own digging I’m blasting his music in my car now.
Elvis did not give black music exposure. Black music, rock and roll in this case, was already well known to young whites and the white power structure. The problem was, like everything else emanating from the black community, the white power structure wanted to blockade, and it had been largely successful in doing so. The whites did not want Black folk to be credited with creating, and God forbid, benefitting economically from anything that could potentially give them some modicum of power. Hence, many talented Black songwriters and performers were not given the opportunity to record. Many black compositions were stolen or bought for pennies and subsequently became hit songs after being given to white performers. Rock and Roll, in it's infancy, was treated exactly the same way Rap music was treated when it first surfaced. R&R was viciously attacked and called n#gg&r music. The president of the white citizens council is on record as saying that if white kids were allowed to listen to that music it would "bring their children down to the level of the n#gg&r." It was only when they found white performers of the genre, like Elvis and Pat Boone, etc, that R&R gained universal appeal. Elvis became especially popular because he was the only white who could mimic the sound and the dance moves of black people. So he approached the semblance of authenticity that the other white performers lacked. The media autonomously promoted him as the King of R&R, a designation they never would have given to a Black performer, no matter his or her success. So every Black person and any honest white person who knows the history of R&R would understand the resentment of Ray Charles and other Black musicians who watched helplessly as they were shut out from the opportunity to fully benefit from their creation.
I'm so surprised to hear so many black legends praising Elvis. They considered him a friend. Praise from other musicians is the highest compliment. This was very moving.
All the people who said Elvis was racist should watch that Clip and then eat their words. Seeing so many black Legends who loved and praise him makes me proud as a black person
Elvis Presley was no racist and didn't steal a damn thing. Those who say that he was racist and did steal are jealous of him. If anyone has stolen from anyone, it's many artists after Elvis who have stolen from him and not given him the credit for influencing them. Elvis had many black friends and was heavily influenced by black music. He always gave credit to those who influenced him. Elvis is the definition of a true artist. Who cares if he didn't write his own music? He had charisma, which is more than what today's acts have. RIP, Elvis. You will never be forgotten and your legacy will live on forever. Your music is immortal
Elvis first recordings were covers of black music, like hound dog, that's all right . Elvis got his dance moves move from black performers, who got their moves from black church people who tradition of gyrating their bodies to music came from Africa. This evolved into dance moves that black use to entertain ourselves. Hence the black church scene. Elvis combine song and dance of these two elements, put them before a white audience who had never seen anything like it! We influenced Elvis and he influenced the nation, Your Welcome!
We tap dance, we jutterbuged,, we dirty dance( we were doing those dirty dances. When you were still doing the two step) we boogie woogie, we disco. We moonwalk. What ever we come up with next I'm sure you'll be dancing and singing to it and say hey, you came up with it first.
Nobody did so much for american nation & culture as Elvis did. He was a God's given Son of USA but his legacy belong to the whole world. I'am still so blessed & proud to understand his universal message.
America was and still is the best country for tolerance and diversity and they have the best human rights standards. In Africa today different tribes are killing each other and women have no rights. Western countries like the US are the only countries in the world with human rights protections.
1 MILLION % RIGHT !!! NO COLOR TO soul ! ......we all learn and take from each other !!! As the term " cover " comes from !! He covered many classic's NOT just " black music " ....but country artist as well as gospel ! Quit Hate'n and start APPRECIAN'N !!
....I think Elvis was bigger and more important than we even once thought...and let's not ever forget our black brothers in which rhythm and blues was birthed
There's a lot of people who tried to insinuate that Elvis was racist hopefully those same people will view this tribute to him from the most famous black entertainers and take back their accusations god bless you Elvis
He was the only person in the 20th century who was so successful, so much above the rest, in his generation, yet so hated by a few in the press and in religious quarters that, out of nothing, they made him out to be, and you better sit down for this i) the devil incarnate with women (US Catholic Church, starting in 1956, the Vatican joining after NY Cardinal Spellman confirmed this view in late 1956) ii) a homosexual (Cuba, which banned him as of 1963), a racist (totally invented, yet some in the US feel like that, they still do ) iv) a lover of African Americans, of blacks, and therefore a racial instigator (South Africa, South West Africa and then Rhodesia, which banned him until Apartheid was overthrown), v) a tool for US imperialism (The entire Iron Curtain countries, that's 12 and Communist China, all of which banned him, until twenty years ago ). and vi) a hater of Mexicans (banned there too, since 1957, the ban lifted in 1971) But such was the power of his voice that he ended up selling a billion record units, worldwide..Amazing, really, that this guy would be banned for six different reasons, some totally incoungruous with each other, and none of it true, in a total of 19 countries or territories, including some of the world's largest, and most populous, namely the then Soviet Union, Communist China and Mexico as well as a tiny, yet extremely powerful one, like the Vatican, and all of it in 4 out of the 5 continents and yet, was able survive it all, as if a fresh fish on a pond....LOL
Hmmm sounds like something a troll would say. He refused to play or stay if his black friends were excluded. He's not my hero just a fine example of the "racial tensions" being a lie perpetrated by people like you. Like a white version of L'il Wayne.
If you would spend just a tad more time on comprehension and a ton less time on being a racist I did not compare you to Wayne. Elvis is like Wayne both refused to accept the false notion that people are inherently racist. I agree that people aren't inherently racist but obviously you picked it up somewhere along the way. "more typical white behavior" That's a bigoted statement. Be careful your true nature is showing.
No matter how you read that it is impossible to conclude I was comparing you to Wayne. He's not a bigot. The part where I said ""racial tensions" being a lie perpetrated by people like you." Your own words automatically preclude you from being compared to a man who is clearly racially sensitive. If your statements on other sites are anywhere near what you display here I can easily see why you would be censured. Using the N word and making racist stereotypes. Please troll someone else.
You believe Hooker would say whatever you wanted him to say with a gun to his head? I think that speaks volumes to your nature. Hooker was an innovative hero. You disambiguate the argument.
Elvis was the most beautiful man to ever walk the face of the earth as well as the kindest, most generous and sweetest. Words are not adequate to describe how loved he was by all of us. .
No, "the most beautiful man to ever walk the face of the earth" was JESUS CHRIST. Even Elvis would tell you that. He always made a point of saying, "I'm not the King - Jesus is".
@@nuwavedave Jesus was the most beautiful man when it comes to character. However, the Bible states that Jesus was not good looking because that would make people desire him. Physically, I still believe that Elvis was the handsomest man ever.
Elvis aveva un grande rispetto per tutti, e' stato un grande cantante ,un grande uomo, una grande persona Love You Elvis Aaron Presley❤ God Bless You in eternity😊
Elvis I still miss you. And all those people interviewed in this piece were also top notch American preformers. Especially Sammy Davis Jr. He was a winner.
I also know that Elvis would be extremely happy and proud that these great Black artists thought of him in such a nice way. he thought a great deal of them and others.
Elvis passed in '77, my mom' passed in 78, about 6 months later, I wasn't 13 yet.. it's hard to associate one death without the other...I won't hesitate in the least, my eyes still tear up when watching Elvis vids....loved the man....and so did my mom.
12:00 I've never seen a shot of Elvis more revealing of the pain, loneliness, exhaustion and need for inner peace than this one right here. I pray he has found the love joy and rest that he deserves. There will never be another like the King.
…Correction Elvis paved the road for Rock and Roll the blues and gospel for White people. White’s are Racist towards Black music and Black artist, they wouldn’t support great music CREATED by Black people. Elvis opened the soul of Whites letting them know I’m playing Black music and you love me, why not love the creators of this music and stop being so RACIST. The same thing happened when Rap music first started, Whites were racist to this new genre of music… then came Vanilla Ice.
Black innovation white imitation...black music was referred to as nigger music..white man sings it, it's then acceptable. He was a man who was on the right spot at the right time..as for a dancer ..come on he couldn't dance, white women found his gyrations a mystery.

Elvis would only be 82 right now and should be alive. People in my retirement apartments are in their nineties and still cooking, doing large table puzzles and some are driving, on the tenant board, clear minded, all together in sight, hearing, have cute haircuts, hardly any wrinkles...unbelievable. Elvis should still be here with us and just might be.

“It’s just hard to explain it. If you’re not an Elvis fan, no explanation will suffice. If you are an Elvis fan, no explanation is necessary.” I once heard that quote in an Elvis documentary. All my life, I’ve been a huge fan of the King of Rock and Roll. I’m only in my 20s as of writing this, but his music has influenced me greatly. I had people talk negatively about Elvis to me and it made me mad. But it’s never changed my love and respect for the King. I’ve been to Graceland once. I don’t see it as a mere mansion, but as a palace for Elvis and his family. And I never knew the man behind the legend until I saw it: ELVIS, the new Baz Lurhmann movie starring Austin Butler as the King, and Tom Hanks as the wicked Col Tom Parker. I loved every bit of it!!!! It was awesome!!!! Another thing that I respect about Elvis is that, even though people call him the “King,” he never let it go to his head, because he knew that the one true King was Jesus Christ, the Son of God, Son of Man, the greatest human being to have ever walked the Earth.

I can recall it like it was yesterday, I was sitting at my desk in Miss Buchanan's class grade 4 , the office lady came on the intercom but she was too broken up to talk then the Principal very gravely voiced shared the tragic new's that Elvis had passed on, I remember he only referred to him as Elvis, Miss Buchanen collapsed into her chair crying, when I got home my Mom was crying she cried for a few day's there wasn't a women on my street that wasn't crying it was like we lost a close family member. . .
I was in 3rd grade and Buddy Dean came in broken voice on KOTN, Cotton Radio . "The King Has Died". My mother washing dishes broke down balling in tears. It made me cry. Does today. God Bless Memphis and Elvis. Thanks for commenting my friend.
As cool as it would've been to see the King perform, I don't think I would've been able to handle his death all that well. I can't imagine how it must've been.
@@CooManTunes I saw him many times, starting in '69 Vegas to his last engagement there, December '76. I was sitting on a step of the pool, phone beside me, 3 year old splashing in the water. My mother called and told me. I did not believe it, but I screamed. The young yard guy on the other side of the fence could hear me, but not see me, was dumbfounded. I grabbed my child and went inside and turned on the radio in the intercom on the wall, sat on the floor and cried.. ALL ELVIS. Everywhere, ELVIS. My husband came in the back door and he, too, was crying. Then my phone started ringing from all over the country. No, I shall never forget loosing a piece of myself, like a brother. I still go to Memphis frequently on Elvis Week.
@@BearStar1 Stop being silly. What is "a portable cooling unit"? A block of ice? The man died on 16th August 1977. I wish he hadn't, but he did. Thousands of people filed past his open coffin. If they were faking his death they could have just had a closed coffin.
Elvis loved gospel first and foremost He had a good heart and united people. His backup groups were all gospel groups. Imperials. Stamps and sweet inspirations. He was the greatest. Who really remembers the Bearles anymore. Elvis still has thousands of fans. And always will
This video shows me and should show the world what a truly wonderful man he was. He criticized no one! His generosity was beyond words. He just wanted to share his singing talent and try to make all the world happy.
My Grandmother was a 'Lady in Waiting' at Windsor Castle and she told me her favourite song in the world was Elvis Presley's 'Love Me Tender'. I've played it on a superb sound system at a good volume and I swear, no one can ever touch him for the emotive feeling of honesty and sincerity that was transcended through his voice when he sang a song. I love Elvis Presley as a singer and a man. I also believe his 'Don't Be Cruel' saved many a kid from getting a licking from their parents in those days thanks to Radio Stations all across the nation.
foxholemusic76 Hello , I'm from Brazil .... what they say in this interview Randyrocker ?? I wonder if you're talking good or bad Elvis . I love Elvis not just me .. all Brazilians are fans . Thank you ! I wanted to know more about Elvis !
valeria silva Elvis Presley was one of a kind, there will only be one Elvis, his songs were magic on a turntable, he had a shyness of his fame that showed on his face, even though he knew he was accepted as a big star. His fans may've wanted more from him as far as recordings were concerned according to the times, yet Elvis was busy making movies and songs made for them. Every so often Elvis would release a new single outside of his movie collection and it would zoom up the charts, because no matter who you were you loved Elvis. The day he died, I was in my car and a kid on a bicycle riding by said, Elvis is dead and something in the way he said it made me come to a stop. I turned on the car radio and heard the announcer say that Elvis was dead, I immediately drove home and took the day off, it was like a member of my family had died. Elvis was my secret friend, a better brother you might say, I had adopted Elvis as someone I would like forever as long as I lived, and it's because of Elvis I feel the same way about the Beatles. Elvis was truly a King to be reckoned with, and he always did live up to his motto, 'Taking Care of Business'. Hope that answers your question. Blue Hawaii is one of my many favourite songs of his, take a listen and enjoy.
Randyrocker thank Você, sim, você respondeu. Ouvimos tantas coisas Elvis. Estou contente por essa pessoa correta como Randyrocker! falar sobre Elvis. Obrigado mais uma vez, e eu vou ouvir sim "Blue Hawaii". Brasil / Valéria Mostrar texto original
the thing is the respect from all these massive icons to elvis is you got to earn it you cant fake or buy it rip to all these legends that has passed on
WOW!! What a man Elvis was to gain such respect from these men that went through the color barriers back then. You can really tell how much they admired, loved and honored him. It was very heart felt and touching to hear them express such warm and sincere thoughts about Elvis. Long live the King of Rock and Roll! 🎤🎹🎶🎸
+TurfGuy I like the stuff he buys, the cars, and all the rings, all the clothes, it's quality, y'know I mean; and I think he's a very religious person, I mean, very, but he's human, I mean, uh, he cusses on stage but that's human, I mean, but he's religious like, he's nice to people, I mean, he's, he's human."
i couldn't have said it better. when i was a kid my parents wouldn't let me listen to rhythm and blues. elvis came along and made it ok. he introduce my generation to rock and roll. he allowed blacks to earn a living with their music. he opened doors that were closed before
I love this video very much, I watched it many times but there is one critic I want to say. I heard several times Elvis is one of the greatest entertainers like by John Lee Hooker, Little Richard... I take the opportunity to correct them by saying Elvis is NOT one of the greatest but just THE GREATEST OF ALL TIMES PERIOD!!! And not because only for his music but also for his humanity, his humbility, his generosity, his honesty!!!
I TOO LOVE THIS SONG!!!!, AND TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU. TOM PARKER " GOT HOLD OF ELVIS " , AND TOLD HIM WHAT TO SING ,ETC ,ETC. ELVIS WAS NOT A RACIST!!!!!!!. MY OPINION ONLY.
Jealousy!!.. That's all people have that Cut up his Character or Stature!!.. Elvis Presley had it "All" Everything & Anything that Any person would love to have or experienced.. I Strongly believe, that Elvis Presley didn't have a mean bone in his body!!.. Just a Fascinating guy... Who could melt the Hearts of Anyone. Elvis Presley will never be Dead to his True fans. He will continue to live on.. In our hearts & minds. Take Care & Never Forget the "King👑 of Rock & Roll"
Fabulous clip, shows exactly how kind and human he was, and the extent to which the black community revered him not just as The King but as a friend and supporter in racially sensitive times.
Because Elvis was from the south he was unfairly labeled a racist, but this clearly shows otherwise. Elvis respected black artists and loved their music, the feeling was obviously mutual. These Black artists knew Elvis and loved him as a performer and person. They clearly knew how much they owed him for bringing their music to mainstream attention and opening many doors that had been previously closed.
Elvis was in his heyday when I was born. I grew up listening to Elvis from the late 50s to his death. That being said I was also listening to everything from MoTown, the Beatles, the Carpenters, Soul, easy listening to Frank Sinatra and Jazz and blues. The 50s-70s produced the greatest catalogue of music in world history. If you were alive during this era there was great great music for all to enjoy. Most of music today sucks. We had cool cars and great music back then and America set the tone for the world. Was America perfect? Hell no, but it was the best we had to offer. Today America is a sh!thole. The only thing better today is the technology.
As a fan of the rat pack it always moves me when Sammy, who loved rings, LOVED rings and wore so many, the first thing Elvis did upon meeting him was gave Sammy a ring off his own finger. Elvis loved giving gifts to people. Sammy was taken back by this gesture. Elvis the man was a beautiful human being.
Elvis put it all together and made his music account for something. The man had the most important instrument to do it, his magnificent voice. Everyone respected Elvis because he carried music into the main stream. No wonder he is still so loved.
David Gibbs Indeed....Plenty Of Respect Shown By So Many Black Stars Themselves. They Would Never Say That About A White Man, Unless It Was True. Elvis Knew His Roots, Though Not Black..His Childhood Was That Of Poverty. Music Was His Way Out....RIP
Shock why would these rich and successful artists need to lie? If Elvis was a racist and treated them badly back then why are none of them saying so now? They all look sincere to me.
My parents were big Elvis fans, back in my teens me and my friends really didn't appreciate how great Elvis was. Over the years I now know what a huge impact he had and what a genuine person he was regardless of creed or colour.
My upbringing was, I suppose, anchored musically by The Beatles, despite my being born towards the final days of their existence as a band. Having older siblings means that your hand-me-downs aren't restricted to clothes. My father was middle-aged when I was born, which meant Acker Bilk, Benny Goodman and others. But there was an Elvis record in his collection, Harum Scarum. Anyway, despite my musical childhood and adulthood skewing off here and diverging there, there's still no denying that Elvis is the King.
harum scarum lol, not the best introduction, well done for you in seeing past that embarassing pile of crap to the good stuff, i.e, everything else that wasnt harum scarum,it was the last album i bought once i had everything else and it was worse than i had geared myself up for. still havent played it a second time.
Elvis adored the black music ...It's normal because he had living with the black people and he loved him ...Elvis was a so generous man and a real christian man ...Elvis is the best example of a great and lovely person even he is the most important star of the story ! Specially for a french like me ....I'm a sincere Elvis fan .
It was nice seeing all the people love and adore Elvis here. John Lee Hooker? See that man's face. Hit a note and talk? Chills down my spine. God Bless Memphis and Elvis. Nobody can undo what our parents did.
A beautiful tribute by some honest people who were gracious enough to speak publicly about their admiration & love for Elvis. I was surprised to hear Little Richard speak so favorably about him as I thought I'd heard that he'd talked the same kind of trash about him that Ray Charles supposedly did but I'm glad that he told it like it was not how others may have wanted it to be. Elvis changed the world for the better.
Who cares about Ray Charles??? The fuckhead was blind. You can't trust a blind persons opinion of anybody they haven't met personally...especially if it's a critique of Elvis, the peak of human evolution, who never said or did anything but show his kindness and generosity to the world. If he saw how amazing Elvis looked and moved, he wouldn't be such a bitter, ignorant loser. Shame when you find out how stupid somebody is, regardless of their talent, which Ray Charles was limited in. Lost all respect for him as a sensible man. I thought he was more intelligent than that. He was really just a jealous shit-for-brains.
Sarcasm noted if not appreciated. You're as welcome to hate Elvis as anyone is just as those of us who love him and his music are welcome to do so as well.
elvis gave me my music as a kid. hound dog and don't be cruel set the tone for my choices for the music i would love my whole life. he set the table for rock and roll as we know it today. he set us free from the prejudice of a generation and allowed us to listen to black man's music. rip elvis
The Best tribute to Elvis I've ever seen and heard, that last song has so much Soul, I'm in tears, Lord just look at all those ledgends of music who are now gone, things are so very different now... May they all rest in peace and blessings with our Lord and savior In Christ's name I pray Amen 🙏✝️🕊️👼💕💙😎⚡🕊️🇺🇸

I was working in a toy factory as a summer job in high school when Elvis died. They had to stop the assembly lines for ten minutes because all the women were crying.
*God Bless Rufus Thomas. He spoke so glowingly and succinctly about Elvis, he summed up the dynamic so well.* Good music is universal and calls to you All these men are LEGENDS, BB, Little Richard, James Brown, Bobby Bland, Al Green, Sammy (that last bit wow), John Hooker. Good to see the old pics with smiles and comradery, just beautiful. Touching.
I'm so happy to see all these great artists telling the truth about Elvis and who he was and how he was, what my generation learned from him was treat people the way you want to be treated - Be A Real Person..............Love everyone:) God made all of us, we're all brothers and sisters in this world:) Love and peace -OUT:)
