If you are commenting this early, you are still crying as hard as I am. RIP, Brooksie. You meant everything to this city and to the beautiful game. You put the charm in Charm City. You turned this franchise into a juggernaut. You had the respect of every great player of your era. You always stayed with Baltimore. So humble, so gracious. Salt of the earth. I cry thinking about your Appreciation Day last September, and how you got a chance to interact with the likes of Adley and Gunnar. I only wish you were able to be here to see this team in the postseason. They will play in your honor. Giving us one more dose of Orioles Magic. RIP.

I'm a 65 year old man and I have cried off and on several times since hearing of Brooks' death. I became an Orioles fan in 1966 at the age of 8 and it was because of Brooks. I have admired and loved him ever since. I even got my father to become an Oriole's fan because of Brooks. Watching him play and broadcast Oriole's games for many years brought me and my father even closer together. God bless the Robinson family and rest in eternal peace Brooks.

Dear Oriole and Baseball Fans; As a former minor league player and Baltimore native, let me tell you this; Brooks had more than a Gold Glove. He had an absolutely Golden Heart. One of the kindest Human Beings you would ever hope to meet. Now both of my childhood Robinson heroes have taken their Oriole flight. Brooks was a pure joy to watch, even wearing his cut-off billed batting helmet!

I was born in 1978, so I missed Brooks' playing career, but as a young man around 11 years old, took a great interest in baseball and its grand history. Particularly that of my hometown Orioles. I gained immense respect for Brooks and the legendary talent that he possessed. He was my Mom's favorite player. May he rest in peace. I'm not sure if my Orioles are quite ready to win a World Series this year, but if they do, I'm certain that this kind man would look down from the great beyond and smile.

I was a 12 year old kid watching with awe as Brooks Robinson dazzled with amazing plays at 3rd base. Beat the Reds in the World Series. I had all kinds of clippings on my bedroom walls from Sport's illustrated or newspapers. What memories I will always have from guys like Boog, Frank, Jim and Brooks. A huge part of my childhood. RIP my old friend. God rest your soul. I leave this comment as my eyes well up.

I'm 66 years old. I was a very lucky 9 year old to be at game 4 of the '66 World Series. We had good seats somewhere just beyond third base so I had a great view of Brooks. I'll never forget his leap for joy at the end of the game. Yes, he was one of my childhood heroes. How many times did I pretend to be him fielding grounders off of my pitch-back in the back yard or off of the driveway garage door. His play on the field and his kindness and humility had a major positive impact on me. Later, after he retired, my son and I met Brooks at a card show. He was so kind and in no hurry to end our visit. Thank God for blessing us with Brooks. Like so many, I love Brooks. Finally, let me say that one of the best things I've seen on RU-vid in many years is "Thanks Brooks, Day" on 9/24 last year at Camden. When he was driven around the field, his pure, genuine kindness just flowed out to the fans.

I remember watching him in the '66 world series. He was amazing. He was the original vacuum cleaner at 3rd base. Nothing got past him. If you hit the ball anywhere near 3rd base you were instantly out. His hitting was sensational as well. He hit .429 and homered twice and drove in six runs, including the tie-breaking home run in the seventh inning of game one. Just an amazing all-around baseball player! RIP Brooks Robinson.

I am a Yankees fan who grew up during the 1960s and 1970s and I always admired and respected Brooks Robinson. The greatest 3rd baseman of my generation and beyond. Defensively nobody compares and offensively a tremendous clutch hitter. He singlehandedly dismantled the Reds offense in the 1970 World Series. One by one over the past 3 years we lost some of the greatest players of a generation who ever lived. Sad day. RIP Brooks Robinson

I was raised in the Pacific Northwest, but we didn't have a team until the mid 70s, so I was an Orioles fan. The teams in the late 60s and early 70s are what cemented my playing days, and I owe so much to that squad, of which Brooks was the cornerstone.

I just happened to run across my pennant and autographed ball from the 1971 World Series and started looking up players when I ran across this. I had no idea as I don't follow the team much these days. He was my childhood hero and I still remember my mom and dad taking me to games when I was younger. He was a class act on and off the field. I did a book report on his biography. He was really the only sports figure that I truly adored and like the prior commentor said, I cried and I'm still crying because it just reminded me of how much the O's and Brooks in particular were part of my childhood and my family. My mom died a few years ago and lived about 1/2 a mile from Brooks Robinson Drive.

I grew up watching Brooks play. Although I live in North Carolina, I was born in Baltimore in 1959, and I have been and will always be an Orioles fan. By time I could watch baseball, Brooks was already playing for the Orioles. Our family went to many games at Memorial Stadium. It's funny, though, but my father, who was a big Brooks Robinson fan - like me - looks a little like him. I can still hear him cheering for Brooks every time he came to bat, or made a play - "Hey hey hey, Brooksie!" And although my dad passed away in 2013, he was also 86, like Brooks, when he died. So I can't help but remember BOTH men today, and feel sad that they're gone. But they will always be remembered.

I'm still crying. It's the morning after hearing of Brook's death. He was my mom's favorite. I didn't grow up in Baltimore but after moving here in the late 60's my mom quickly found out that the Orioles was a baseball team that she could love. Brooks, Boog, Palmer were her baseball idols. I got to meet Brooks several times while working at BWI airport. He was always ready to talk some baseball with you. He would call me "darlin'" because of course, he didn't know my name. I see now how "Thank God I''m A Country Boy" is so fitting as the Orioles 7th inning stretch song because Brooks remained forever a country boy from Arkansas. Rest In Peace Brooks and watch the Birds go all the way this season. Sit next to Mo Gaba and cheer them on together.

He was playing well before my time. I was lucky enough, however, to see him pre-game at a York Revolution game sometime in the past decade. He and partners were brought, in some form of pro baseball, back to York (I can't remember the level, but they were affiliated with the Pirates). If you've never been to the Revs stadium, then know it's called Brooks Way (or something like that). They have a monument of him near the main gate. I can only image what they will do to start next season in remembering him.
