George and Ellie used to come to the local hair salon in stow on the wold, they were the most likeable couple ever! Ellie used to have a French plait with ribbons woven into it, LISA used to do it! George was a genuinely warm gentleman, Ellie had the driest but kindest sense of humour, an amazing couple! Honoured to of met them both!
What a great interview. Agree with a prior posting, about Shearing's association with Mel Torme, absolute perfection! - two masters with one mind. What a wonderful gift George was to humanity.
Wonderful to hear Ellie's interview about George. Battersea is very proud of Sir George Shearing and I had the privilege of organising the installation of a Battersea Society commemorative plaque on George's alma mater Linden Lodge School for the Blind which is now a private boys preparatory school. We had a lovely event with Alyn Shipton jazz broadcaster who helped with George's biography and tributes from Ellie and others, music by current pupils and a piece from Charlotte who had played a duet with George when he had visited the school when she was a pupil of Linden Lodge in the sixties. It was attended by many of George's relatives.
Thank you so much for posting this wonderful and informative video. One feels that much closer to this blessed musician after listening to his wife's touching - and often amusing - stories and anecdotes. They must have been one of the world's most charming couples. Both lovely people.
Would you be able to contact Ellie Shearing concerning a recording George did with vocalist David Allyn which was never released, but George still had in his archives? We would love to preserve this recording. Thank you
