The 1970s was all about bigger and better. From cars to pant legs it sure delivered on being bigger. The decade was full of events and items that made this one unique time period to experience. Some of the styles have even come back around into mainstream and popularity. There are so many things to discuss when speaking of the 70s but in today's video we will revisit some of the things that made this a great decade. Hopefully this will bring back some good memories and may the 70s live on forever!

Tang the drink mix brand was formulated in 1957 and first marketed in a powdered formula 1959. Sales were poor until NASA used it in 1962. Following the lunar landings in 1969 the sales really started picking up in the 1970s.
@jackshittle
@jackshittle 2 года назад
But NASA didn't really use it. They had a disgusting flavored drink that had vitamin C in it that the astronauts hated but some how later on Tang got marketed as "what the astronauts drink".

Hi. This is very professional, and an excellent description, of that era. Life then, was vastly better than now. Ice cream cone was only 5 cents. Burrito, 19 cents. We don't want a search engine, even now, to check information. Then, there was trust, and if you did need to learn, there were parents or your local library, or using your mind, to figure it out. I grew up, in a large city, near the ocean. And merely to help, for future videos, it's "OFF en", not "OFF ten", and only one is accepted.

@osiawideman, same here. I loved to go spend the weekends with my grandparents. They had a nicer house than my parent's did. They had color TV and we didn't. I loved waking up to my Granny cooking breakfast, Pawpaw cutting grass, and watching cartoons on Saturday mornings. Then we'd go outside and play. I have an uncle that was only 4 years older than me. My mom was the oldest of her four siblings, so really my uncle was more like my brother instead of my mom's brother. We grew up together. We'd play baseball or basketball, ride bikes, or play hide and go seek. Or if the weather was bad we'd just stay inside and play down in the basement. We always found something to do. Sometimes we'd stay up late and clean the house even though there really wasn't much to clean. I'd polish furniture with pledge furniture polish. I'd clean the bathrooms. It was a gift to my grandparent's. We'd help in the garden sometimes too. Things were different with my parent's though. They didn't get along to well. That made life hard at times. Then my dad past away when I was only 10 years old in 1979. That really turned things upside down. Anyway, at least I can remember some good times back in the 70's. 😉😊

Sadly every day I was stuck eating sandwiches with soggy slimy lettuce but as a kid. I was too dumb to think of a better way to ask mom to prepare the sandwiches. If I would have had mom pack lettuce in a baggie seperate from the sandwich my sandwiches could have been crispy everyday. Imagine eating a brauswager sandwich with slimy lettuce. In a way it has helped me as an adult. Cuz now day old Big Macs are no issue for me if I eat them a day after purchase.

Yup, the best time to grow up as a child . I believe it was the last decade when kids were real kids , playing out side from morning to dinner. Riding our bikes all over town and hanging at the neighborhood parks and doing different crafts there . They had park and rec teachers then for free and they played with the kids all day to dark and did crafts and lots of games. They don't do that any more. I remember eating breakfast as fast as I could so we could go out side with all our friends. We did not need all those expensive toys f today. All we wanted was our bikes,skate board and a ball.we played freeze tag, hide and seek, kick the can , and kick ball.... we built neihborhood forts in the woods and tire swings... .we were fierce ,fast and knew how to have fun. When our parents called us in to eat we would eat as face as we could .we couldn't miss out. We all played together , the entire neighborhood ,boys and girls and we had a blast. The 70's were the most free, fun, mellow and crazy decade ever. The 60's were great too, but a little more conflicted. 80's were still good, but limits on freedom were rapidly taking place. Great video!

Also this: Cigarette vending machines everywhere, and everybody smoked everywhere. Even hospitals. Up until 1974, women wouldn't get a credit card separate from her husband. Leaded gasoline was still a thing Drinking and driving deaths were 6 times higher than they are today The mortgage interest rate was 8-10% and about to jump about 16 in the 80s. Infant mortality was 20 deaths per 1000. Today it's still a pathetic 6 per 1000, well behind every other industrialized nation.

I can relate to a few of these. Saturday morning cartoons with Bugs Bunny and Road Runner. Friday nights on CBS with The Incredible Hulk, The Dukes of Hazzard and then Dallas. Can't forget riding bikes and playing outdoors until supper either, what times to be a kid. Also, Mattel Electonic football and baseball games came out, cool technology at the time.

Born in 72, watched re-runs of 60's TV sitcoms religiously, enjoyed riding my Huffy bike, saw the first Star Wars movie in the theaters in 77, played with all sorts of way cool toys, fondly remember 70's kid shows like The Muppet Show and New Zoo Revue, looked forward with eager anticipation to birthdays and holidays, played little league baseball, started taking guitar lessons, enjoyed hanging out in my uncle's apple orchard, was fascinated with anything related to dinosaurs, loved watching those old Godzilla movies, etc. This list could go on and on, and it just proves what an awesome decade the 70's were for me. I wish I had total recall and could remember every last detail of that time in my life!

It was a great decade and you definitely have some special memories associated with it. I feel like it was completely different than how things are now for kids. They certainly have no idea how it is to wait for the Muppet Show to come on. You certainly couldn't play it anytime you wanted. Same thing with Saturday Morning Cartoons. I was like you in that I wanted a lot of old shows in syndication. Thank you for watching and commenting!

I was also born in '72 and was also into a lot of the things you mention. Star Wars was a huge of part of my childhood and still a big part of my life....the pre-1997 Star Wars, that is. Before it went downhill beginning with the Special Editions to today's Disney Wars, which I will never acknowledge as canon or consider it as Star Wars at all.

The fact that TV shows and specials were only on at their designated time made them that much more special! It was exciting to get the TV guide with the Sunday paper and figure out when the Christmas specials you wanted to see would be on! We’d all remind each other at school and start acting them out from memory…

Toys ... yes, some really creative ones. I remember being inside of a convenience store on one of our trips, and seeing packages with these tiny plastic toilets, in pink or blue, whose bowls were filled with tiny granules of candy. Alongside each one was a tiny scooper. I can just imagine some kid standing before the adults at a formal gathering with one of these things, scooping out the candy, and proclaiming, gleefully, "Hey, look! I'm eating out of the toilet!"

Can't say the 70s were great, but I enjoyed the video. I was more into the 60s, the style of music, but it was changing, most of it was good, and I still have a lot of it. I wore bell bottoms, but was not into the flower child thing, I guess I was just an odd ball. LOL Our family was worried about my brother, and other vets who were in Vietnam, when someone knocked on the door, we would almost come unglued thinking it may be a telegram from the army with the worst news. We did get a telegram one day, he had been hurt, but he would be ok, he lived through it. Thanks Rhetty.

Avocado, Harvest Gold, and Burnt Orange! Wish I had more of the old fashioned Tupperware. I remember seeing a door-sized curtain made of pop can pulls. Candy cigarettes that would "puff" out smoke once or twice. Pencil case! 🤩 I loved my childhood, and would happily go back. Being locked outside during recess! 😄 I will confess I've never watched Star Wars. How about Hee Haw?

The puffing cigarettes were the bubble gum ones , made with corn starch on the wrapper paper to prevent sticking of gum . The smoke was the corn starch. I loved the gum cigars that came in yellow and pink with a cigar band . That was a mouthful of bubble ! The pull tabs , hung between rows of colorful beaded curtains or hanging brass bells was the thing . Add the shag carpet and whoo hoo you were in style .

In 1978 I wrote an operatic parody of Star Wars (based on The Pirates of Penzance), and included a bit in which Darth Vader complained that when he ran off some new storm troopers on his Xerox machine, they came out Harvest Gold instead of the standard white. Seventies humor.
