I do not own any of the photographs in this video. For more information about Team Snazzy Goat and driving goat history, click the following link: sites.google.com/site/teamsna...
Over 10 years ago I tried to talk our local Heritage Museum which teaches how to be a Teamster using draft animals like oxen, horses and mules to do a class with goats I couldn't find any evidence to back it up at the time except for one photo in South America. I'm glad to see other people talking about it now. I'm very glad you're reminding us of the skill and relationship of working with goats
Oh, wow! It would be so amazing to see a harness goat class or exhibit at a museum. One of the oldest pieces of evidence of driving goats that I have been able to find is a Greek vase from 400 B.C. that features a goat team, harnessed with little bits and everything. wonder how far a goat can run/trot ? say yu have very light bike wagon or pulled a scooter like dogs .. wonder how far they go if they not pulling much .. you help up hill .. try bikjorking with a goat .
I hope you make some videos about this! I am wanting to learn more about it as I have recently acquired some does with the prospect of "surplus" wether kids that could be trained to do light work round the garden and farm.
Ruby Gray, we will work on some more in the future :-). In the mean-time have you checked out the Team Snazzy Goat facebook page? We have lots of pictures there and are happy to answer any questions about training and equipment. Here is a link: m.facebook.com/Team-Snazzy-Goat-231768373542862/
cluckcluckhen it's pretty much thanks to your videos that I found out you could use goats this way. I've been watching them over and over. I got on your site and saw you have a book on driving goats that I plan to get. I have my goat trained to walk with a halter pretty well now. I just ordered a light duty pack and a work/driving harness for him too.
Their walking speed is about the same as a person’s, and they generally like traveling at the walk. However, when they are excited to go, they can move at around 10 mph, in harness (for short bursts).
