I wish we had more Yu Yu Hakusho games, it’s such a legendary anime with a lot of cool characters. Imagine how cool of a game they could make today with it
@@mattneal4309 true I felt pretty dumb after I said that as humans we are generational beings lmao. Like how The Lion King is literally an abridged anime of Kimba the White Lion.
I have loved DBZ, Yu-Gi-Oh, YYH, Inuyasha and all those older 80’s and 90’s anime- it sucks that this set of games is so minuscule in scale- but it is truly interesting how they came to be.
I put so much time in the YuYu Tournament tactics, I love the fact that you can pick from so many different characters from the dark tournament, and getting to utilize masked fighter/genkai was SICK. Honestly my favorite game out of all of them that came out here
Yu Yu Hakusho is my favorite anime of all time. It's just so well balanced and fun, with a good ammount of progression to the world and characters. It's not painfully short, and also doesn't drag on-and-on for a million seasons. Perfectly rewatchable, good voice acting, compelling characters, good mix of action/drama, and a palatable style. 9.5/10, very solid anime.
I’ve always thought that if togashi was didn’t have health problems and was able to write the last saga the way he probably would have wanted, yu yu hakusho would have been the goat. Every arc before that was absolutely perfect
Actually the health problems didn't really affect the ending of Yu Yu as much as the stress of writing 2 mangas at the same time. So he chose to wrap up yu yu post haste because it's already had a life span in order to make sure HxH came out unaffected. Now unfortunately that's when the health issues came about was after he did all of that work on yu yu AND HxH it caused his health to get worse. So his health didn't affect the end of yu yu the end of yu yu and beginning of HxH affected his health which in turn affected HxH down the road.
There are a lot of YuYu Hakusho games only in Japan. The Treasure developed games are the most notable from the early 90's and the DS Shonen Jump crossover games are really cool and fun to play.
As expected from a Treasure developed game, the music is incredible as always from Aki Hata to Norio Hanzawa. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vD5OS6E0JkQ.html
Im actually surprised Hiei didnt end up beung the one that caught your eye. I really think Kurama is one of the best characters in the series but Hiei was more your stereotype imo
Good times with Dark Tournament. Man i remember putting in the no damage cheat against the 1st fight with togoro, that message that pops up saying you must be cheating because this fight is impossible is one of the coolest gaming memories i have
One thing about PS2/DVD cases of that era is that the discs popped in there snugly. So many games nowadays are rattling around in the box before I open them 😂.
There's a Japanese only YYH game on PS2 called Yu Yu Hakusho Forever that's pretty good. I think it was developed by the same team that did the original 3 Budokai games, so, if you're able to, check that one out. There's also a Super Famicon game which... it's name is escapiing me, but it's a pretty solid fighting game. Wayyyyyy better than any of the SNES era DBZ games.
There were 3 SNES/Super Famicom games. One was just called Yu-Yu Hakusho, and it got a sequel called Yu-Yu Hakusho: Tokubetsu Hen. Both of those were essentially 3D rock-paper-scissors contests, but the third one, called Yu Yu Hakusho Final: Makai Saikyo Retsuden, that was a typical Street Fighter-esque 2D fighting game, and one I spent many many hours on when I was young. Great games.
I managed to drag myself through that PS2 game all the way to the last level, where I proceeded to get destroyed both in game and mentally in reality. Toguro is one of the most one sided fist fights I've ever experienced in a fighting game.
The developers really put as much emphasis on how powerful Toguro was as possible. It took me and some friends around 4 hours straight taking turns to finally cheese him and win 🤣
Weird that they never make more Yu Yu Hakusho games. Guess it never gotten that much popularity, and recognition as DragonBall did. I loved this series, and I'm stoked to watch the live action Yu Yu Hakusho coming to Netflix.
I grew up playing the snes yuyuhakusho games, my friend would get imports from japan along side snes DBZ games and the like. I couldn't read any Japanese but I had a hell of a time playing them.
Been following you since you were posting on instagram. The evolution of the project has been so much fun. Looking forward to what you do in the future.
The netflix live action show is AWESOME! They really nailed the characters and their costumes, and even tho they had to condense the first several arcs down into just 5 episodes, which obviously mean some changes to how the events play out (they can't exactly get a whole dark tournament arc in that few episodes), they did a great job adapting it to a live action format. This is what caring about source material looks like.
The Yu Yu Hakusho games that were localized in the US aren't that good, but there are definitely some good ones that came out in Japan in the 90s. The Yu Yu fighting game on the Sega Genesis was a great game and was good enough to be apart of the Japanese MegaDrive mini that was released a few years ago.
Fun fact. One of the first fights in story mode where you fight Toguro, your really supposed to lose the fight and then the story progresses as usual but if your good enough(or like me and used cheat codes) it will take a little bit but you can actually defeat him and a different cutscene will playout. .
Huge fan of anything Yu Yu Hakusho.. the only game I own is Yu Yu Hakusho Tournament Tactics on the GBA which I think is a gem.. Still play it from time to time nowadays.
yu yu hakusho is one of my all time favs, so matty i just want to thank you for making this video and can we just please talk about one of the most fire anime themes that is smile bomb 😮💨🔥
With the anime supposedly getting a remeastered version like ruroni kenshen, i hope we can get a storm style game with the meticulous detailed cutscenes. Though my monkey paw will be it will happen and look beautiful but the story will be the 3D models with text boxes over them and the boss fights might be the big fancy ones.
Man I can't believe you're going over this title!! Amazing!! I watched this anime for the first time 5 years ago and never played the game besides the Gameboy sp one
I've only played the PS2-titles, and there are two more follow-ups on the PS2 but they're in Japanese only, as they were never reelased outside of Japan - they're the same style just with more characters and later settings.
Can't wait for the Yu Yu Hakusho live action netflix show coming out in 4 days. Will definitely get a subscription to Netflix just for the Yu Yu Hakusho live action show!
You did this and did not cover the Treasure-developed fighter for the Mega Drive. It had supers, four players, super-cancels, a combo counter, and different planes to fight on, before almost any of that was a thing. It's pretty easy to find a translated rom.
The amount of content you could create around just the spirit detective arcs, everything before the dark tournament, both canonical and invented with closely associated creative license would be plenty for at least one excellent RPG or arpg, possibly two. Wish they would consider it.
If you wanna try a really good adaptation of Yu Yu Hakusho, go for the one released on the Sega Genesis. It's called Yu yu Hakusho Makyou Toitsusen. I loved this game back in the day. My cousin at some point got this PS2 game you show in the video, but we would simply play the one on Genesis instead, on an emulator. If I remember correctly, you can have up to 4 players in the arena at the same time, as it was divided between foreground and background, and all the techniques and fighting styles were well represented in the game. You can get your way around even if you don't know Japanese (it's a fighting game, after all) and it's a great game to play with your pals. Yu Yu Hakusho Makyou Toitsusen.
Fighting Younger Toguro in Dark Tournament is to this day still one of the most crushing fights I've ever experienced in a fighting game. Damn they didnt have to make that boss lore accurate 🤣.
As a newer fan of Anime ( grew up on Pokémon but that's about it. Just seriously got into it 2023), out of all the older shows, Yu Yu Hasuko just felt the most unique to me. I'm trying with DBZ and One Piece but idk I think I'll stick more with YYH in the long run because Yusuke and Kuwabara are wonderful characters I think. My main favorite is Re Zero right now, but Hakusho is second or third.
There’s a way to combo lock people in the first yu yu hakusho game, just tap the button wait half a second then tap again and the opponent stays stun locked
I never played the first one, but I loved the last two. The mini game in the Dark Tournament game was a lot of fun too. YYH is a top 10 anime for sure. Borderline 5 for me.
Toguro in the Dark Tournament game will BEAT THE SHIT out of you. I recommend learning Yusuke ‘s longest combo and spamming the shit out of it and the spirit gun. Even then, it takes a lucky run to put him down
I have VERY fond memories of playing Dark Tournament as a child. The mini game was super fun to play as well. Tournament Tactics was one of the games I had on game boy it was also my first experience with turnbased combat I didn’t really like it much but it grew on me it was just hard. I loaned it my bestfriend and he loved it. Another friend had Spirit Detective and I thought it was so cool. Funny thing is I didn’t get into the show until 2022 almost 20 years after playing the Tactics 😂
I only ever had a GameCube so I never got to play the Dark Tournament game but it looks really fun I wish they would’ve done a gc version Yu Yu hakusho is a top 10 anime for me
The one which came out for Mega Drive in Brazil and Japan is a great game and original style fighting game for its time. I love Tournament tactics. The beat em up on the game gear is unsatisfying. And Yu Yu Hakusho Forever on PS2 is cool
I'm surprised that Hiei isn't your favourite character because he strikes me as the real bad boy of the group or Vegeta if you will, he's the shortest one there and the most violent and there's his hair which is very similar to Vegeta's
That ps2 game you liked. Well, there's a part 2 too it. Same gameplay style. But, it has more fighters & it covers the next season in the show. Don't worry about not knowing Japanese. It's the same as the last game. But with improves & more fighters. There's a lot of yu yu Hakusho games that only came out in Japan. Most of them are fighting games. So you really don't need to know the language too play them. There's a ton of great ones. From the SNES to PS2. Emulators are your friend mate
I love this anime so much, i wish i got a chance to plau some of these when they came out. Im getting my steam deck soon, soo i may have to emulate some of these😁
Have you considered branching out for retro rebound, because theyres alot more YYH console games than three, you didn't discuss any of the imports. Would make the series a bit more interesting
The tournament tactics on gameboy advance were 🔥🔥🔥. I was going to replay this and dbz buus fury 🔥🔥🔥Wish they would make a great fighter on the ps, xbox, or steam
