Like Amy he is a real artist and a person with integrity, honesty and he too refuse to be mold into a triangle lol I never forget when he accept to be filmed while being force fed to protest against torture in Gantanamo, he really is a man of conviction 🙏💪✊
I wish Amy would have cashed in on Back To Black, waved a thanks for inspiring it to Blake and then went on to fall inlove and be carried on to a world of happiness with Mos Def and written an album of real love. He would have taken care of her, he clearly loved her. If only 😢
Yeah that would’ve been beautiful but we might not have gotten those hit songs those raw raw hit songs that touch us so deeply ass those in back to black
So glad Mos Def said it how it really is and kept it real in this interview. The media and the music industry completely crushed her and milked her for money and it's heartbreaking, no one can deal with that especially someone going through what she was going through
I think Mos Def should do a life time story of Amy Winehouse. I think he would do her right even in Amy’s down falls. In a way that has compassion for the artist. Plus she needed a team behind her. She was so young and became large so fast! That’s what happens to most music artist.
I'm glad this was shared.... I cried when Mos Def talked about Amy. .....he said what alot of people thought too! They all saw how talented Amy was..., she left us far too soon.
It's heartbreaking to see her so full of life and then deteriorate in no time. This isn't something that I wish on anyone no matter especially when they are so talented and genuine.
I cannot love Mos Def any more than I already do...love this great man. Thank God he is in this interview and telling it like it is. A sweet, loyal and loving man. God bless him always. Amy, sweet girl, be at peace. Love and miss you angel.
Yasiin Bey (Mos) is so heartbreakingly articulate on the subject of fame, art, the media's extreme cruelty towards Amy Winehouse. "Capitalism don't care about your fucking feelings ...". Really wonderful upload, to hear these very reflected people speak in such depth with such nuance. Thanks so much for uploading. A breath of fresh air in the shithouse ...
Mos deff. A real human being and a True talented artist and a true intelligent person. Amy was like that..Really and truelly Special.thats the reason he really understand her. It is a pleassure listening yo what Moss deff saya un this interviene. Its all true. Thank todo for people like this un this world. I really admire you as i admire amy.
I love this interview and the world did not deserve Amy .. I dont understand why the media was cruel to her yes she made her choice but addiction is a disease.. normally you dont ridicule someone with cancer and disturb their piece of mind why they did it to her she was sick ... this world is shit
The problem in that country is they look at addiction, be it alcohol or drugs as if it's a way of life, as if it's not something to be truly concerned about. Amy being as young as she was really didn't know how to respond to the way they treated her, and being involved with trash like blake only exasperated it all. I said it earlier and I say it again...she needed to get move away from the country...I know it was her home and she loved it but being there just didn't do her any damn good...period
@@thomaschannel3960 Shifting the blame on to one country, regardless of what it is, is more of a superficial angle of looking at the core reasons of her tragic death. It's nit just her country that stigmatises addiction, the whole world does, with a few individual exceptiins here and there. She was a visitor amingst us, she was meant to leave because of many things, including her disastrous absence of belief in herself, she was a pute, humble, emotionally immature little girl who failed to grow to adulthood. She had to deal with so much complications in her life at an early age, while all she really really wanted was to write songs, sing, bad play the guitar. She fell in love with an unworthy guy, who tortured her, and ravelled on her pain, she had a monster of a father who didn't give a dime about her wellness, while he cared, and still cares so much about her cash. She never was able to be given the opportunity to grow up. My heart aches for her, she was young, and pure, but so much ill accompanied. Pour Amy.
@@3arnaguadi5 what are you talking about....your comment has nothing to do with what I was saying...in no way did I say her home country was the responsible for her outcome....you make that assessment...but then states the whole country stigmatizes her type of addiction, if you stand by that her country is specifically more responsible since that's where she lived...so you contracted yourself in your own statement
Going to go ahead and say a huge THANK YOU to you for uploading this, like the other commenters said, these interviews are really special on a number of levels and each had a different, fascinating perspective. Again, thank you very much.
Yasiin Bey's (Mos Def) words about Amy were so sweet and real, I love him. I can't imagine what that must have been like to live in another country, see Amy go through the things she went through and not physically be able to be there. I wish she would have left London because it seems like there were a lot of fake people around her.
I wish she had stayed in Saint Lucia. She went there when Blake got jailed and whilst she was there her drug use stopped, she was still drinking very heavily but I think she could have conquered that in time if she'd just been allowed to remain there without the eyes of the world on her. Sadly, her father and management pushed her into coming back to the UK to make a 3rd album and start doing gigs again. I think she wanted to make her dad happy and didn't want to lose him again, I wish he'd just left her alone.
leolady I completely agree with you.. they say Amy loved London but like allude to she needed to get out go to the US where a good number of people in the Industry really cared about her and understood how to deal with the shit of being an artist...in London they saw her as a novelty.
Mos meeting Amy in Watford is a trip to me. As in two of the seminal artists of the 2000s chopping it up in London's satellite Dullville, & you wouldn't want to take a trip there.
I LOVE AMY, but didn’t know Mos before, I do now, a true person who recognised a good soul. He knew her, he loved her. I love, too, Jools Holland’s quotes/conversations, he knew her as the jazz singer and wonderful person that she was. As to Mick Ronson ... don’t get me started.
Omg his so devo and spking truths !breaks my heart he loved her bless him everything they said was beautiful she was brilliant beautiful and raw talent..
He really loved her, so did Tyler, and Salaam, and Mark, and Jools, people who really appreciated her. So many good people around her, but unfortunately she would do anything for Blake who so wasn't worth her time. Shame that love is blind :(
It makes my heart hurt to hear her beautifully angelic backup to his echo of the lyrics. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fy9Aa0XAwrE.html
I want to thank you guys so much for this. watching this circus that as surrounded her life. it was nothing was bringing who you could feel who she was and that you loved her. she had a voice you couldn't beat. when she sang her soul was what you heard. all these movies documentaries are like shock value. yes she drank but her voice came right through. but they kept pushing her. till she just gave up. you guys are giving AMYS fans peace thank you very much
I mean, it’s so crazy and sad that we wouldn’t have had Back to Black if her relationship with Blake had never happened.... but also, possible she would still be with us .. love Frank, but man the pain in Back to Black is so moving.
I would love someone close to amy to get a whole bunch of these lovely people to write at least an excerpt for a book / thoughtful compilation of Amy and the impact she had on her friends, peers, and people she met in passing. I would love to read that.
Im here coz Amy's death anniversary is approaching yet again and it still hurts.so many people touched by her voice and her story. This world is too cruel for someone so pure like you Amy. And you will always be missed♥️
Mos is the sweetest soul ever. Amy was a good judge of character, most of the time. Well except her husband. But Mos and Remi, good as gold. Mos g-d bless you. I'm not sure if you still hang in Philly. But would love to see you guys again.
Remi, Ronson. I so do agree. Your your own boss... Take care everybody... Its all up to you.....Still I love Amy . Iv almost walked in heh shoes.... Love you everybody.... T...
If she had a so called regular job, Amy would still be alive, the industry emotionally, mentally and physically destroyed Amy, and sadly without enough support at a young age, with fame..
Thank you so very much for uploading and sharing this with us! I had no idea the interviews Asif used in the documentary were available like this. Asif has a great ability to get to the heart of things in his interviews or so it seems. Do you know if there are more or any information about whether they are going to release more in the future? I haven't been able to find any info elsewhere. Thanks so much again!
I keep watching videos about young musicians that have passed away, just before this Keith from Prodigy, Chester Bennington, kurt, with all these people around them, and family , and friends no one has been able to save these people from their demons, drugs, drink , mental health issues..
Yasiin Bey is right about being able to stop the bus and take care of yourself, when musicians need a physical and mental break. I think of Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters) and Marvin Gaye when performing and expectations pushed them beyond what they could handle and bear. John Bonham is another example of being swallowed up by the constant touring and lifestyle on the road. Young Amy was hit with instant massive fame and was relentlessly hounded by the paparazzi and media.
When a person first comes in contact with a powerful stimulant drug such as cocaine, the effects can be so powerful n overbearing that it could instantly mar your mind n better judgment. N sadly all it takes to complete the addiction stage here is some monetary funds, drug connections n some readily available enablers to lock in that temperament. I truly believe if those things had been absent from Amy's life she'd still be with us today.
Why could'nt you save her?.. you should have looked after her! Dear Amy, you had no real and honest friends .. such a shame , such a talented and gentle sweet girl! We will never forget you! ♥️🇮🇱🌹🧚♀️ R.I.P
Each time i hear salaam remi he schools me as far as technical aspects of recording and the way to proceed to make someone unique i think he has been underestimated and under-rated....Ronson needs to clean up that studio ASAP hahaha
Cool to gain more info on how Amy developed her masterpiece BTB, & also so value the great insights into the music industry from Mos Def...it's a corporate world that doesn't care about our well being..reminds me of the quote from the film 'Fast Food Nation'...."They'll slit your throat for a nickel...no offense, they just want the nickel"
40:25 They did the same thing to Britney Spears too. To be honest it was ALL the female artist who had it pretty shitty when it came to the media. Let’s not forget how they did Lindsay Lohan aswell. People these days complain about everyone being snowflakes. But the truth of the matter is that the #Metoo movement and better treatment of female stars needed to happen. Those tabloid people were beyond sick.
Girl from Ipanema. It’s a bossa nova song from Brazilian singer Gilberto. She jazzed it up and truly made it her own. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-C6NAcH-wQDo.html
