THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP!!! I've got a 40 yr old Remington 1100 12g that my dear wife's Dad gave to me. So it's not just another shotgun to me. It is a beautiful gun and mint condition, save a few bucks for me to get it cleaned up and working better. The Carrier latch had broken and now that I finally found one to replace it..... I can complete my repairs because of YOUR video and expertise!👍👌 Thanks again from a grateful old WV trapshooter 😉
That’s awesome! You are very welcome. This is one of the main reasons I make these videos. I think we owe it to the next generation to pass the knowledge we have learned to them. I was taught everything I share on here by someone. The least I can do is pass it on! I’m glad to hear you can now get your gun up and running again! They are so fun to shoot. Thanks for the feedback!!!
Hi there Kornholeeoo, I just wanted to let you know that I got the Carrier latch installed, with both The Good Lord's Help & your video! It works like a charm ✨️ I am thrilled to have it in working order again and am ready to "shoot that thang" !! I will pass along the knowledge I've gained to my nephews or whomever whenever they may need help with their guns. I had put a Sure Cycle new action spring in it, new extractor pin (also watched your video on that) along with with a few bucks more in miscellaneous parts. But that action not locking into place was giving me fits until I installed the new Carrier latch assembly 👍 I watched the end of this video and was moved whenever you asked God to bless us and our country. Consequently I read your RU-vid bio. So I also wanted to thank you for your service to our country. I pray God Blesses you in your work as a nurse. Love your Silverado (I'm a Chevy man myself) along with your other shotguns and 9mm. I subscribed to your website in case I need help with anything 12g or 9mm related 😉 Take care & thanks again, Raymond & Carrie Shaffer 😺 Liberty WV
That is awesome news!!! I’m so glad you found use from my video! That’s the main reason I do this! We all learned from someone and I just like to pass it on. It’s therapeutic for me to work on a gun. God bless you and your family and Happy 4th of July!!!
Hope the video helped. Some of these guns are really old and have seen lots of use without the best of cleaning over the years. A can of brake cleaner can do wonders sometimes too.
Thanks for the reply. The Competition Carrier is a NEW part, and the trigger group is virtually new... I thought it might be a small adjustment to correct... Not big enough to be worrysome. Thanks for the great video
Oh that great news. Yeah if it’s all new you should be good to go. I found a competition carrier on an estate sale, sort of, on eBay. Got the whole trigger assembly for $90 if I recall. Said their dad used to be a smith and he had all kinds of parts and they were selling them off. It wasn’t brand new but it was in dang near mint condition. I have it in a mint condition 1187 made in 1988. Found that gun in a local pawn shop and it had never been fired. Still had a bunch of styrofoam balls in the receiver and barrel from the box. No wear marks on any part of that gun internally and still had the factory oil inside. I snatched that gun up fast! They were asking $900. I asked if they had the box and he said no. I said I can do $700 cash out the door and he accepted the offer!!! Basically 1/2 price of what I see these guns going for online in this condition and now it has a competition carrier in it. Every now and then things just fall in your lap. But I’m constantly looking for things like this. Good luck to you too and I’m sure it’s going to work as advertised for you too. Thanks for watching!!!
I wish I had some good news. It's an older 1100 Lt-20 and I cleaned this shotgun thoroughly. It hadn't been cleaned in years. It was only firing a single round and would not cycle the second. I cleaned up really good and put a new o-ring in it and did the same thing it was doing before. Shoot one round and hang up feeding the second. I went a changed the carrier springs and reassemble it, took it to the range and I can't get it to fire any rounds at all now. I actually replaced the firing pin with a new one from Numrich Parts. Same thing all over again. It won't even fire a single round. So I decided to watch your video all over again to see if I missed something. Not sure what's going on at this point. if you have some ideas, I'm all ears!! lol!!
If it won’t fire a round, look at the primer and see if there is any dent showing the firing pin even hit the primer. If not, there is binding somewhere in the bolt or the firing pin is too short. If it won’t feed rounds, it’s the shell latch or interrupter issue. Will it cycle manually? Is the firing hammer working strong enough to fire? Sounds like you may need to take it to a smith if none of these issues help. Let me know. Look up a video on the interrupter. It’s inside the receiver and will be holding rounds in the mag tube. It should have a spring in it allowing it to move up and down.
@@Kornholeeoo Thanks for answering me on this one. The shotgun cycles manually just fine. There doesn't appear to be any binding associated with the bolt, it cycles quite smoothly. Initially it would fire the first round and hang up on the second round. I replaced the springs in the carrier and the carrier dog, and I also put a new firing pin in it, got it from Numrich Parts. The firing pin measures to specs, 2 15/16th in, and it moves very smooth in the bolt. The hammer seems to be releasing with plenty of enough force too. I noticed a very slight indentation on a new 20 gauge shell I tried to fire in it yesterday. I have not looked into the follower video, which I will do later today. Thanks again for your videos and your response. Mark
@@Sharkman6275 Have you taken the stock off to see if the action spring is gummed up? They can get filled with junk over the years. But that doesn’t answer the firing pin not striking hard enough.
@@Kornholeeoo Yes, I removed the stock and cleaned it up the action spring as best I could. The gun was a was a mess and I teased my buddy for letting it go so long. I tore the gun down about as far as I could because it needed a really deep cleaning. The gun stopped firing completely after I replaced the springs in the carrier and the carrier dog. At 14:40 in the video you show the "dog ear" that intercepts part of the latch. It almost seems like that latch is what is keeping the hammer from moving completely forward to strike the firing pin. I changed the spring under that latch, which is the one you showed before in your videos. When I attempt to fire the shotgun the hammers releases and you can hear it strike. But it doesn't fire the shell. I have checked the movement of the hammer after it fires and it seems to stop a bit short of the bolt. It seems like the hammer actually stops forward movement when it hits that small latch. It has me puzzled for sure.
I would love to help you but I’m having trouble understanding what is happening with your gun. If you can, could you make a quick video of the problem, upload it to your channel and then share the video link to me in a comment please.
I’ve got a lefty 11-87 that came back from the Cerecoater with a non functioning trigger assembly. Finding a replacement lefty assembly is proving to be difficult. Would you possibly be willing to take a look at it if I sent it to you? Haha I’d send some $$$ your way of course.
How do you adjust the amount of movement necessary to release the bolt. I just upgraded my trigger group with a Competition Carrier. It requires a lot of movement before the bolt is released.
There shouldn’t be any adjustment required on the competition carrier. The adjustment to get the DMW carrier is to file OFF material so it’s not so sensitive. You file off material from the triangular tab that contacts the carrier release when pressed to get it so it only releases the bolt after 1/8th to 1/4 movement when pressed. New it can release by just a simple touch. On a competition carrier, it’s like any carrier Remington makes. The carrier release tab that is removed at the 8:37 time stamp and the triangular tab on the carrier are the two mating parts. Might try to find a new carrier tab off eBay and swap it out to see if that tightens up things. You really cannot bend the triangular tab on the carrier other than from left to right but you better know what you’re doing. That won’t tighten it up but just align it in case it’s not touching in the right place.
I appreciate your effort here but there is a little too much detail and not enough light to see the pieces you are talking about. I have been told that the trigger group is something not to be messed with but you don't seem to be having any trouble with it - I would feel better about this if I could see what you were doing. Thanks anyway - you obviously care about what you are sharing.
Thank you for watching. I apologize for not getting better lighting. I have 2 cameras and I have made an overhead camera mount with the overhead but it still is a challenge to get it all in. I even bought another very tall tripod with an extension and weights and all. If you can let me know exactly what part you need better viewing, I will make another video and try to get what you need. Again, thanks!
@@Kornholeeoo Let me start by saying I appreciate the complexities of recording vidoes bud. I'm pretty sure if you had a better light at the overhead camera and a little closer view your demonstration of the work you were doing on the speed loader would have been mcuh better. I am interested in adding that loader for shooting doubles. I like your videos, thanks.
@@78tag I’ll see what I can do. I might just do a slow take down and show where I filed the lifter and then put it back together. I have some other personal work I’m doing on my Beretta 1301 but I’ll try to start the video this week.
@@78tag Just recorded a 30 minute video on it. 4K so it’ll probably be around noon before it’s ready. I did add light and up close recording so I hope this helps you. I had a headlamp on my head but forgot to turn it on until it was over! LOL. But I watched it and I think you’ll be able to get it done. Cheers!! Called Daves Metal Works Easyloader. Remington 1100 Install. Don’t have the link yet but it’ll be my most recent upload. I’ll get you the link in a bit.
With all due respect, showing your face on split screen was pointless. It contributed nothing to the subject of the video. Instead, you should have shown a closer view of what you were working on.
