The title says it all. Wondering what happened to Remington? Where the 'parts' went? Here's my half-baked attempt to fill in some of the blanks for you
its how things work in the business world, they all have different brands to give people the impression of choice but in reality we are all buying from just a 4-5 different companies, it happens in the guns industry, in the soft drink industry, etc etc
Thank you for the update David. I have been really curious as to what all is happening with all of Remington’s assets, I’m also wondering what happened to Bushmaster too
Cerberus also being the outfit that finished off what was left of Chrysler after Daimler Benz got done screwing it up. Very good company of bean counters to stay away from, IMHO!
Oh how the mighty have fallen. I hope the operation in Ilion, NY makes a go of it. The oldest firearms operation in the country deserves a chance. I have to believe the proliferation of 'holding companies' is partly to blame.
I think Remington screwed up when they started making the cheap budget rifles. Model 770 is junk. But my 35ish year old 700 BDL 7 mm mag is AWESOME and I will never get rid of it. It will be handed to my son when they throw dirt on top of me.
A friend was recently burglarized & a extremely enhanced BDL 7mm mag was among the stolen. He gets nauseous thinking about it. He too planned on his son having it.
They need to get out of New York. Stag Arms, Weatherby, Beretta and even Mag-Pull have changed states. I realize moving all the machine tools, including the very old ones can still be moved. Being their original plant is not a good enough reason to stay in NY with the firearms climate that we are currently experiencing. Plus, they could subsidize the relocation of employees. Other firearms company's have already done so. Not impossible.
Would be nice if folks would actually listen and retain. Unfortunately, I expect that a year from now people will still be joining in Remington gun (RemArms) discussions to complain about shortages of Remington ammo.
Sort of like the old Winchester dying in 1964, bad management can kill a company. Of course new bad management starting back up in NY state is just plain stupid and they will die again in a couple of years.
I imagine they had to change the name slightly to avoid any further entanglements with the current lawsuit, this way the can technically claim the company is defunct. I still think they should get out of NY though.
Vista outdoor owns the Remington name. So they can't still call the company that. They have a licensing agreement with Roundhill to use the name Remington on the firearms but nothing else
The big problem with getting out of NY is that the other plant they got ( in Alabama, IIRC...) was very valuable as real estate and so was sold to generate capital. The Ilion plant is basically worthless as real estate, but is a turn key firearms plant with no investment needed. I understand the sentiment of getting out of NY, as I did it myself years ago and never looked back, but keeping Ilion actually makes a lot of business sense.
@@rogermac358 the other plant in Alabama was not sold. They never owned that plant. It was leased to them by the city of Huntsville which hinged on developmental goals they were suppost to reach as far as number of employees by certain dates etc... which they obv never did. All the assets out of that plant were sold but that plant was not owned by the former remington
My 597 speaks for itself by taking up space in my cabinet....a company that can’t master a simple semi auto .22 simply won’t get my dollar. “Rimfire” means the firing pin should strike the rim.....
I wish they would bring back the Remington model 788 ONE of the most accurate rifles that has ever been manufactured by Remington along with the model 700
@@USARMYvietnamVET1969 I hope your kidding. 400$ rifles that are .25 minute capable is just ok? The best mark 2s ever made? The best 22 rifles ever made? Multiple brand new calibers dethroning 100+ year old legends? And the ability due to sales of quality guns in such an overwhelming fashion that they can purchase company after inferior company? I dunno man they say the proof is in the pudding lol
@@USARMYvietnamVET1969 I hate to break it to you but marlin became low quality about 50 years ago. That’s why they just went out of business..... bought by a company with multiple best sellers in various categories....
@@MrT13 I have a matching pair of Ruger Vaqueros that shoot great but the fit and finish isn't that great neither is my 10/22 but I still own them..they don't equal the Quality of my Sigs Pistols or Browning rifles..but you get what you pay for... Sounds like your a dyed in the wool Ruger man and I'm sure you think they are the best firearms out there,.. nothing wrong with that..
So it seems like manufacturer support for Remington firearms is gone. Luckily the most popular models have a ton of aftermarket parts manufacturer should you need them.
So sad to see an icon in the American firearms industry fall victim to a bunch of leeches. On a lighter note, happy to see Marlin back in capable hands and really stoked about some of those green boxes finding their way to my area.
I know that the attention span to Americans is about 5 minutes but some subjects cannot be covered in that time. Attempting to do so simply adds to the confusion. I don't think this video has added much to the topical discourse because of its brevity.
New York has a leadership - corruption problem. The regular citizens there, that i know, are actually pretty decent people, and most of the states rural population are very strong 2A supporters. Makes me wonder how long the elections there have been corrupt.
Just read JEE just bought out H&R away from Remington. So if that is the case and if this is true and if they go back making Handi-rifles then think I will get 2 more barrels made for my H&R Handi-Rifle, one in 35 Whellen and one in the 450 Bushmaster. Don't like most of Remington much since they went down the tubes back in the 1990's. Sorry I bought their pump model 870 back then. Works fine, but very bad quality, unlike their older model 870's or Wingmaster models. But glad to see they are going to bring it back, but some comments here are bad mouthing NY and I don't live in NY, and NY is personally not my place, but at least I am glad to hear or see they are still in America, is the main thing.
I have several Remingtons here, an old Remington Model 31 12-gauge pump (predecessor to the 870), a Remington Model 33 single shot .22 that's killed squirrels for me now over the last 20 years almost into the triple digits, rabbit, woodchucks and a few other critters. A Remington made Mosin-Nagant from 1917 that was shipped over to Russia and was retro-fitted later on and looks like served in both World Wars. I have an original Remington Rolling Block #4 .22 LR that my son loves and I really like too. I also have a Remington Model 24 semi auto, the Remington version of the Browning SA-22. I wouldn't trade any of these for one of the buyout Remingtons and I am in no hurry to buy a new Remington. As far as Marlins, I only have one at the moment, an original Model 410 lever action based on the Model 93 (not the later 410 lever which was based on the heavier 1895). It's another great squirrel killer and I can't wait until September when the season starts up again. I had a couple of the Remlins, both were nothing but issues, but I am curious to see what Ruger will do with it.
Politics aside, I really hope Rem Whatever can make a go of it for the sake of the workers they employ. Dave, I'm like you in that I own an older Remington 22lr target rifle and wouldn't trade it anything. If the new management decides to make the BDL model again for a decent price, I might just need one. The last few times I've looked at some 700 BDL's in 30-06, the sellers were asking crazy prices, especially when I'd want to replace the trigger before I even did any shooting! We'll see what happens...
Not likely. I can't imagine Ruger putting out a tube fed .22LR semi-auto, when their magazine fed 10/22 has been dominating the .22 rifle market for over a decade. They, most likely, just bought Marlin to put out the lever action rifles, cutting into some of Henry's hold on that market.
I recently bought a 1979 Remington 788 from Cabela's in Woodbury Minnesota. I wanted one so bad back in 1974 when I was looking to buy my first gun but couldn't afford it. This one is in mint condition and looks like it was hardly used. What a work of art.
If you have an ammo division, you already have a reloading components division too. With demand so high for ammo, most components are being used for factory ammo, which also causes a shortage on the reloading side.

I worked for Remington arms.and after the new owners took over nothing has changed..thay still have the same old people doing the same old shit..I really dont see them making it..no.dont..too many hands in the cookie jar. I still have NEW Remington 870 Express junk on my wall at my shop that I can't sell to anyone. They were junk in the last 10 years. 1 out of 6 we sold had to go back for Warranty because the shells stuck in the chamber after firing and secondly they would not even eject out on other ones, they just sat side ways in the action or would just fall out on the ground.
I bought my Remington 870 tactical around july I went into a gun store asked a man if he had a 870 I can look at he said no so I asked if he can take a look at mine since I thought something was wrong with it but nothing was wrong lol long story short he looked shocked and impressed when I took my baby out my vault case and said I’m very lucky to be able to grab one since he hasn’t seen one since all 2021 and all of 2022 so far. So I’m actually happy the remi 870 was my first gun but now sad seeing remi might be going out of business
I’m curious what ruger plans to do with marlin. It will be interesting to see. I’ve been a fan of marlin lever guns since birth.. Remington too until they started making the less expensive versions of firearms
I know that I have 2 1100's that my father bought when he worked at Remington, those guns I will never part with. They were late 70's or early 80's vintage and better than my 2012 750 in 308.
I dont believe there is an armed services dept currently, or if there will be one or not. Gonna take some time they are focusing on getting the production lines up and running
@@Ando2k10 firearms are already being produced there. People have been back for almost 2 months now. 870s are currently in production altho only 1 shift
@@Ando2k10 things are still up and running though and guns being built. I was a former remington employee and I know people who are back working. There was no issue with the union it was all bullcrap from the new owners. They've had very little communication with the union so how could it be a union issue if the union hasn't heard from the company? They had issues retrieving assets from the Huntsville facility as well as new machinery which contributed to the delay. But 200+ people are currently back working and producing firearms
@@Ando2k10 that's because the new managing partner was making shit up. He was on the local news countless times talking about closing the whole thing if employees went on strike, the union responded saying they had no clue where he got that from. He then came on saying they wanted clarification on an issue and the union said they had no issue opening the facility and wanted their members back to work. Like I said they did have issues with the old company and retrieving assets from Huntsville which was part of the delay. The pickets took place after we were all terminated, those were about getting screwed out of our severance. Had nothing to do with the new company
@@Ando2k10 oh they def were shady AF. Our last CEO and the "managing partner" of roundhill were just coincidentally business partners for 20+ years. And the other guy also had a business go bankrupt shortly after remington. Also CEO used a frontman for the sale and then he magically disappeared after. Still makes me question if I want to go back or not if they offer me a job at some point
What I don't understand is how these companies that have made and sold millions of guns over the decades have gone 'belly up'. It's not like the demand is not there, is it that there is too much competition in the market, or miss-management or what????
All this no help to me... Im sure those employees can find work elsewhere... As for ammo, looks like ill keep making my own and stay self sufficient. Knew this 20 yrs ago and planed according ly... Fucking chinese cell phones...
I hope they keep the close to the same price points at the Remington Arms because I have a feeling “RemArms” is going to be a short lived company. I just think they will come out with the same 870’s and 700’s we all bought for $200-400 except charge $700-1000 and they will close and blame a lack of sales.
when is this "hunting season" they speak of? all i need is a 870 barrel, but people on ebay think they are made of gold or something, ask a price of $300 to $400 per barrel, i could buy a new shotgun at that rate
I can tell you I bought Versa Max shotgun for 1500.00 and had to replace the charging handle after it flew out when shooting and replace the extractor . I will never buy a Remington firearm again.
We need many new firearms and ammo manufacturers in America, with the newest machinery and production methods and a young generation brought into the fold with good careers. A new Henry Ford era, just with the 2nd amendment.
I am so glad I purchased by beautiful Marlin 1895 CBA levergun in 2019!! It was built with precise fit and finish and function!! 45-70 is my favorite and this firearm with its walnut but stock and forearm, 6+1, 18.5” octagonal barrel with Ballard rifling is one of the last excellent Remington firearms!! I also have my Dad’s 1968 Remington BDL 30-06 which is in pristine condition. Both of these firearms have accurate iron sights and I have no need to place plastic and glass on top of either one!!
What really needs to happen is all the manufacturers need to leave all the Democrat run states relocate down south and west open up plants all over american made America first
