REMOTE MOUNTAIN RUNWAY Landing in Papua New Guinea | Bush Pilot Flight Vlog

As you will see from this landing, the people never finished cutting the grass at this remote mountain runway. Having long grass is not only dangerous because dogs and chickens can hide in the grass causing a hazard to a plane taking off or landing, but also creates a lot of unwanted drag for takeoff. When the airstrip is only 1600 feet long, you definitely do not want something like long grass slowing you down.
Whether you are a seasoned pilot, student pilot and wanting to learn to fly an airplane, or an avid SIM pilot, I think you will enjoy this cockpit view flight vlog into some of the most dangerous airports in the world.
Enjoy and consider subscribing if you like what you see. More bush flight vlog videos every week, so don't miss out. 👍

I used the same as a Civil Air Patrol cadet in 1966 at Cornelia Fort airport in Nashville TN, It in a huge pile of trees but the top stuck up just a bit. later a Super Cub stalled on landing and hit that tree. Me and the other cadets beat the Fire dept there by 30 minutes.

I do not understand all the thumbs down, we are observing a very professional pilot, great checklist discipline, adherence to SOPs, in a very unforgiving environment. In 1981, I went on a mission trip with 21 youth from various parts of the USA, I was one of the leaders. It was with teens mission international. We resurfaced that airstrip you landed on in this video. My husband and I just stumbled onto this video. I actually just finished up with a relapse of malaria that I got when I was there. Amazing to see that the fruit of our labor continues on!!!! My husband asked me to marry him while I was there. Rachelle

@missionary bush pilot : you want to see the comment above! ^^^^ I wish YT had a better/easier way of "pinging" a comment so the creator would be notified. From my experience its either a constant stream of notifications for every comment or nothing at all so busier creators tend to miss some really good comments through the simple reality of overwhelming volume. Glad you made it through the relapse. I have enough chronic medical problems that I tend to avoid adding too them (so I avoid areas with high malaria risks).

We discuss our landing situations and abort criteria, but there are times where things are more "routine" that it may be substituted for (Standard landing/abort criteria). Thanks for sharing! You're flights reminded me of the Porter PC6 I used to fly with my dad (communications officer co-pilot) in the 70's in Laos. We used to land on dirt runways bull-dozed in the middle of a jungle ridge just like Yombitok except steeper incline (20 degrees incline from foot to tip of runway. Only one approach as the tip of the runway ended at a cliff five hundred feet from the mountain summit. My dad used to evacuate mountain villagers away from battle front areas. I don't even know why he took me along sometimes but I'm glad he did. The memories stayed with me all my life and the scenery was just like your low level flights.

@WonkaaVision I think I got the jokes, and the best one was that Made in America is a 1993 movie directed by Richard Benjamin, with Whoopi Goldberg, Ted Danson, Will Smith, Nia Long, about a young black woman who discovers that her father was a sperm donor, and if that weren't bad enough, he's white. "American Made" had Tom Cruse, about an ex-TWA pilot Barry Seal, who became a drug-runner for the CIA in the 1980s in a clandestine operation that would be exposed as the Iran-Contra Affair. That the next best joke, as it would be during the Reagan/Herbert Walker Bush era, not Clinton. CIA killed him afterwards. Ha Ha! Good movie though! How did I do?

I also bet the locals love it when a foreign guy in sunglasses risks his blood and treasure to land on their sketchy runway to deliver needed supplies.
