How to remove seat bottom. 2022 Tesla Model 3 Seat Removal. In preparation for seat modification.

UPDATE 13Feb12, One Year after getting my new M3P:
Final solution: I removed the bottom seat cushions on both the driver's and passenger seats.
Pulled the flimsy Tesla foam out of the faux leather. Got another foam that is far more robust (it's a trade secret where I get them), I "sewed" the Tesla OEM faux leather topper to the replacement foam. Driver's side I move the seat sensor from the Tesla OEM foam to the replacement foam. I added custom cut foam blocks to the bottom of the assembly between my new build seat bottom and the metal frame "Z" coils (which are useless).
Let's talk: Seben(6+1)19-TwoFourFour-SebenOneTwo4
You DO NOT have to pull the whole seat out of the car, just the bottom.
It is best to unbolt the four floor bolts to make it easier t o change the seat bottom.
This made access much easier!
I removed the screw holding the outside plastic that holds the seat controls. This made it much easier to access everything!
Step 1 Move seat full forward. Remove 2bolts holding the seat frame to the floor to the rear.
Step 2 Move seat full backwards. Remove 2bolts holding the seat frame to the floor to the front.
Above steps gives plenty of room under the seat to work by rocking the seat backwards, exposing the bottom.
Step; 3 Remove little front screw holding the plastic that holds seat switches. Allows more room to work on the outside.
Step 4 Remove rear clips holding top material. They wrap around the back in the rear then underneath the seat and hooks on the springs under the seat cushion.
Step 5 Remove front clip holding seat bottom material.
Above two steps will loosen the material, making it a bit easier to get to the really difficult two side clips. I used a rolling motion to remove the front clip. Sometimes a flat head screwdriver can be used to start the clip removal at one end.
Step 6 Remove the clip on the inside of the seat bottom near the console
Step 7 Move the plastic near the door, a bit from the seat bottom to give room to work
Step 8 Remove the left side clip near the door.
Disconnect 2 electrical connectors when the seat is rocked back.
Gently locate the clipping mechanism, which is different for each connector.
Gently press in the release on the gray connector (heater) and that should allow the connectors to come apart easily.
The driver's seat sensor connector has no clip holding it together, instead it is held in place by a clip holding it to the bottom of the seat.
Picture of bottom of seat thanks to another RU-vidr DAErik.
Here: • Taking Apart Tesla Mod...
That's the passenger side with different connectors but the springs and the way the cushion hooks on is clear.
Good view of the seat metal base without the seat cushion is here:
• Taking Apart Tesla Mod...
The clip holding the seat sensor connector actually mounts upside down, not on top!
Here: • Taking Apart Tesla Mod...
Risks:
You must properly clip the seat sensor and use the support clip. It is meant to connect underneath the spring base. And there is a support clip holing the connected connectors in that position.
You risk it disconnecting if you don't do it correctly for the seat sensor. If that happens, the car may act erratically.
There's risk of loosening spring base from metal frame Ensure spring is put back in solidly. The spring base "clips" into metal tabs.
The Model 3 are very similar for all years.*There was one appearance change in all the M3 production years. So this should apply to any of them. I'm pretty sure but not certain this covers them all, especially 2019 2020 2021 2022 Tesla Model 3, all versions
It's better to have a stiffer foam added to the center to fill or it will compress too much, defeating the purpose. I no longer just add that simple filler.
Flatten seats so the narrow part of the seat bottom cushion wings no longer hurt my hip bones and to get more suspension to soften the jolts. More suspension, completely replace Tesla foam with another foam.

I had to do the same thing with my Model S but what I do is I just slice off the bolster foam to make it level with the rest of the seat. These seats are far too narrow and painful, especially to my right hip, and especially as a side sleeper. Many BMWs have adjustable bolsters, but Tesla's whole thing is reduced parts and processes, increased profit margins, etc. That's great, I support the mission, but sometimes you have to hack a Tesla to make it fit. Period. No apologies. When I slice the foam, I do it in such a way that if I have to, I can put or glue it back in place without any problems.

You would love the model S seats. Maybe you should try that car.

Which year Model S? I have tried and driven the early Model S (up to 2016) and bought seats from that era. I also have test driven the newer Model S ( 2017- present). Indeed the seats in the early model S are very different. I liked them and had no issues in the short drives. I could not figure a way to mount them to the Model 3 / Y. When I drove the newer Model S (2017 - present) they are extremely similar to the Model 3 /Y, in fact they all share the same metal frame. The Model S is slightly wider in the cushion but the metal is the same. I agree that I'd like the S better however, based upon my test drives and seat purchases, I would not like the newer Model S on longer drives as much as my seat mod and would also modify the Model S seat if I had a Model S. I have had my eyes on early Model S for some time. I'm a bigger guy and I do love bigger cars. Maybe one day I'll get a Model S and or use the Model S seats somehow. I do really love the mods I've been making. And the Model 3 is much more a sports car like ride, especially the Model 3 Performance, and especially in very fast, very tight turns. Thank you for your comment!!! Please like and subscribe, it really helps me.

@@georgeborrelli3134 I’m talking about the new model S with the yoke. Very wide and long seats. I can put the front down almost flat. I have a bad back and hated the model 3 seats.

Did you finish the seat? I'm having the same problem and it's hurting my Siatic nerve. I'm fed up and ready to start chopping the foam down

Yes, I have finished my seat changes. I can ride for many hours now where before I was in terrible pain in my bottom, leg, and lower back. I tried several different modifications and I finally am very happy with an even newer design and so is my wife. I cannot guaranty a solution to sciatic nerve but I think I have a similar problem. I would not cut the foam down! The problem is the metal is right below and against the foam and the foam is already too thin. You'll be removing the very little protection from the metal you have. Temporarily you could put a pillow or folded towel or aftermarket pillow in between the wings. That will raise you above the metal frame and you may find some relief. What needs to be done is the Tesla seat foam replaced by a denser foam material and also a slight raise of the foam base. My final custom seat in my car now and driven for quite long rides and we are satisfied. I cannot think of further improvement. What I did was pull the seat base out of the car, pulled the Tesla faux leather cover off the Tesla foam. I found a similar seat foam from a car we tested and like for long range drives. I custom built / attached / inserted the stock Tesla seat faux leather cover onto / into the foam replacement. i also put foam blocks underneath that assembly. I wired the Tesla sensor onto the replacement foam and connected all original wires. So the seat sensor works and the heated seats work as in stock. We love the seats. I can work out an arrangement where you try it out. You'd have to follow the videos on how to remove and replace the seat bottom, once the replacement arrives by mail. If interested in this, let me know. If you want to discuss further, just contact me. If you feel up to building a custom seat on your own and just want some help, I will entertain that too. I just can't share which car I got the foam from. I'm also experimenting with other car model seats to see if slightly different seats will be needed for some people. All I can tell you is that I've tried so many solutions. And I bought metal seat frames and numerous seat cushions from different cars, to experiment and learn from. I've put seat bottoms in and out of my car countless times. I have bought foam and cut foam many, many times. Now, I'm pretty happy, I cannot imagine any further improvement for my own particular needs, having a large build and lower back issues and related nerve issues. I also bend the head rests to a more aligned position further backwards from the stock that bends my head and neck awkwardly forward and affects my spinal placement in the car. I believe this change is also a must to make everything work in harmony. Additionally I removed the lumbar support, so that I can move my hips fully back into the seat upper / back part. My name is George Borrelli, I can do Tesla seat modifications. I live in Crystal River Florida. You can text or call me. Seben (the number after six) 19 - 2 fourfour - Seben one two four.

I'm planning on purchasing a model 3 performance I have a model 3 dual motor for rental and I'm having an issue with my circulation being cut off on my right leg because my thighs and butt are just too big for Tesla seats I was wondering if you're doing this to install something like a bigger seat for bigger people so it's more accommodating or for back issues or what exactly and where were you would find a replacement seat that would be more ideal

pop the frunk and romove the long piece of plastic trim that surrounds the washer fluid fill access, (between where the hood hinges bolt to the car) it just pulles straight up and off.

Seats of model 3 2022 is the same of 2021,2019 ?
@georgeborrelli3134
@georgeborrelli3134 Год назад
Based upon my experience, the seat bottoms are the same. I believe there was a style or other change in the upper / back part, a very subtle and virtually not noticeable stitching change to the seat bottom..That change appears to be over 4 year ago. So i think 2022 back to 2018 someplace are the same? The change over might have been early 2018? I've bought many of them from various years, never seeing any noticeable difference. The size is the same, the foam seems to be the same. Then I'd "safely" speculate that 19,20,21,22 are the same? I hope that helps. What are you trying to do?
