It's quality work when you treat a customer's roof like it's your roof. You don't want leaks or ugly looks from ground or roof. Neither do customers. When we did ours we scraped the iron ridge flashings and went with quickbolt 2. Still have a box filled with the old flashings. Great work Mr. Goat.

Been installing since 2008. Never made a roof leak. A caulking gun and a Hershey's kiss amount of caulk around the hole in a U-turn shape upside down is all you need.

The other day we were reading the bag of Buchanans and we had a Blonde moment. Strip both wires 3/4”, put the crimp sleeve on, and THEN use your lineman’s to twist them together before crimping and trimming.

No crimp needed lol

I have seen many crimp connectors fail when used with solid wires. Crimp connectors tend to relax (spring back) somewhat, after removing the crimp tool, which reduces the compression, resulting in a less reliable connection. Crimp connectors are not as bad on stranded wire, as they are on solid wire. Crimping to solid wire results in poor connections that have high resistance, which results in heat, that can cause fires. NASA (and others) do NOT allow crimping to solid wire. On the flip side, wire nuts have a conical, sharp-edged spring that stretches when you install them, and they bite into the wires with many threads (wraps of the conical spring), while keeping a spring-tight compression on all wires that the conical spring engages with. But to the main topic, I am in the process of choosing a mounting solution for my solar panels, and this video helped me see some of the installation techniques and problems that can arise. Thanks for the video.

For gaps between the rows i like to use a two mid clamps in between the panels to get the gap then match it across the row. love the videos man keep up the good work

I Install solar panels in Sweden and most of the roofs there are clay/concrete tiles. Never seen these paper tile roofs before seems much nicer to work with. Keep up the good work😁

Here in the Netherlands we lift the solar panels in a completely different way, which uses less energy

Nothing covers the bracket and protects the edges of the bracket and the hole that was made with the lag and this goes for most mounting systems. Your install looks nice 👍

Thanks for these, great videos. The flashing sealant you did looked good, but how was the lag bolt sealing around the hole in the flashing? Was that a rubber nipple on the flashing that closes?

i would take off the old shingle still stuck on the flashing with an oscillating tool. dont think it belongs on the reinstall, takes some time prepping them but very clean reinstall

I believe the Buchanan is good for 2 10AWG wires, what is your preferred connection method for 3 10AWG wires?

We have an in house roofing company. I’ve done a few re-installs. Idk why the customer would get a system with a bad roof. Or maybe the salesman was looking for a quick commission check?

I am need of a new roof. After I approached my solar company for a quote to remove and reinstall my 28 solar panels, they came back with a quote of $11,000. I feel cheated that they didn't disclose this cost upfront or we wouldn't have opted to put up the solar panels 10 years ago. The panels are leased and we still have 15 years more to go on the contract.

Any interest in doing a video about converting a LCD style solar edge inverter from cellular to lan? Deadline is looming with a tmobile shutdown. I'd love to diy this but the 2 videos I've found didn't inspire a ton of confidence that I wouldn't electrocute myself and that there wouldn't be a password lockout. Your take? Loving the content!

I posted a couple! One with a WiFi kit and one with hardwire a while back! Can you check those out and let me know what you think?

@@solargoat oops. I looked before asking and somehow missed them. Sorry about that. Watched both and I think I understand how to drain it and not get shocked. I'm assuming they all have the LAN port. So I guess the only mystery left is another video shared a button sequence password locking out the LAN activation in models with a LCD screen. Is that sequence always there? Is it always the same or would the initial installer have set their own?

Why aren’t you using a real extension ladder with standoffs and leg levelers? Ladders should never be supported by thin aluminum gutters? Install looks really nice.

I am totally off grid and you said about a month ago that nobody goes off grid? Brother you are very wrong, there are many of use going off grid because of various situations and possibly harsh situations, I hope your comments about off grid were a mistake.
@solargoat

I was definitely being a troll. A lot of people don’t understand when they install a grid tied solar panel system that even if it did work “off grid” it doesn’t have any where close the capacity to run and oven or ac unit etc.

Obviously people use solar in off grid applications. But “no one” that has grid power install solar and disconnects
