PROBLEM:
Do you have a beautiful book cover you want to use for a junk journal cover but it has the gold title/ or gild- the decorative application of gold or gold coloring to a portion of a book on the spine?? ( my cover was a fake leather looking material with the texture and grooves- not sure what the essential oil would do to the old fabric covers…???)
🍃Grab some doterra Wild Orange Essential Oil (which has a high concentration of limone)!
⭐️ Find a tooth pick, wooden bbq skewer or small nail
1. Add a drop to the gold lettering and gently start scratching at the letters( NOTE: if it’s a material that may stratch off the top layer of color - be very careful or it may show the bottom color through. It happened to me- the brown got scratched away revealing grey underneath- You May be able to touch up with a marker, ink or paint!
2. I gently used a cloth to agitate the area I was working on to lift more off. Keep checking to see if your lifting the gold + the material(color) in my case in was a brown.
I only had to scratch all the letters to loosen the gold, wipe with cloth and then concentrate on the tiny grooves to get the small bits of gold out that was left in the cracks.
The Essential Oil did make the spine a little dull where I scratched, but I fixed it by rubbing a soft 100% beeswax over the area, let it dry and then buffed it.
Viola - gold be gone!
If you look up close you can still see the faint indent of the letters - but I can certainly live with that! My Journal spine had pretty beads sewed into it and l didn’ want to cover it all up with fabric or paper.
