For a guy that works as hard as he does, then picks up his phone on Sunday and not only gives a subscriber the time of day but lets me ask a question about an old cat d4 then gives an answer. Give this man a like and share.
Often times people don't know how good they have it when they come across a mechanic that not only knows what he's doing, he's honest with them as well. So they'll abuse the mechanic by cheapskating them, nit picking, and then trying to duck out of paying in some cases. It's true that the human race often don't know what they have until it's gone. The opportunity to grow in wisdom is all around us, but very few take advantage of it it seems.
Warren. Retired construction. Logger guy here. 66 years young. Still working. Trying to stay busy. Thanks for the opinions Work ethic & videos. Always great to watch you. Solve the wide variety of repairs you do. Stay safe & keep the dogs in the vids
Warren, you know me by now, I do three things on your channel, the1st is always hit the thumbs up button 👍 the 2nd watch your video's and the 3rd, always thank you for the video, and say it again, Thank you for the video Warren.👍
I always give you a thumbs up, and comment to help the algorithm, and i tell anyone i can to come over to this channel to learn from a good mechanic who knows what he is doing without all the tomfuckery you get elsewhere. I sure do appreciate the time and effort it takes to make these video's. I will contribute to the channel in another month or two, but i have to repair a hole in my roof from when we had an ice storm that looked like a tornado went through here during the first of march. I also have to fix a hole in the roof of my barn that had a limb punch a hole in it, and also do some repairs on my truck. I don't have a lot of money, but my house is paid for, and i have my own well and septic, heard how bad the folks in town are paying high water bills. G-d bless you, the family, and all the furry and feathered critters.
As a mobile mechanic getting on his feet, I look forward to and get excited when Warren shares experiences as a self employed business owner. It's a confidence boost.
when big cam cummins first came out, snap on made a special wrench to get those bolts out on compressor and pump because the followers got bigger and didnt leave much room. That is the only tool I have ever bought from snap on and they were a time saver. Have fun with the fld. Bill
ALWAYS give you a thumbs up cos l ain’t seen a bad one !! Would watch you paint a wall and the banter keeps me coming back for me. Keep going Warren we are here to be informed and maybe learn something. Stay safe 🇬🇧
If i'd done that job, I wouldn't be able to sleep at night. They must of known they were ''half-arsing'-it. Also your work ethic is something you can apply to any part of your life. I live in London, UK. I have a 2 mile walk to find grass, I'm no farmer I'm a Software Engineer. I'm 50 years old and it seems that no-one can do their job anymore. Warren, you are a rare breed. An Honest, Genuine and no-nonsense guy who works his arse off. There's a life lesson in each video, and I feel privileged to be able to watch you work. Thank you. Rowan Lidbury, London, UK. PS. You should get a private siding and fix them train engines as well.!
Hey man, thanks for what you do. About 2 years ago I was a security guard, got lucky and got myself in the shop at an equipment dealer. I don't even consider myself mechanically inclined, but I learn as much as I can and I love it. I probably would've gotten fired a long time ago if it wasnt for you and other guys sharing their knowledge, so again, just wanna say thanks.
I'm an "always pay respect for the video work" by clicking the thumbs up on the way IN ! .. especially a mechanical contortionist like you who seriously knows his stuff.
Been working on a 389, owner had another shop swap a cm570 in after the block failed on the 871. Junkyard engine of course shop couldn’t get it running gave him a 20,000$ bill and he had to have the truck towed home. Truck came to us it had low fuel supply pressure needed a gear pump, had pinched the wires going to the coolant temp sensor, never bothered to set up the j1939 for cruise Jakes fan etc, pulled the valve cover injector cam is wasted, they put a hardware store bolt in the rocker shaft and pulled the threads on the head. Got the head off today liners look like the thing was stored at the bottom of the ocean. I question my abilities constantly, I beat myself up over mistakes and comebacks but then I see videos like this one and I see the workmanship on this truck I’m working on and it just blows my mind. Keep up the good work warren
It sure pays to have a break with family often, makes a better work mood. Josie sure has filled out into a good looking dog. Well, if it was not for cheapskates we would not have work, that goes for eejits who have no idea too ! Hope you get that truck sorted without too much further surprises
When I was an apprentice I rebuild an old N14 STC out of a 9390 Steiger and torqued up the rocker shafts the 25ftlb and the 90 degrees or what ever it was, ran it up and ran fine for about 2 mins before it started clattering like mad, pulled the covers back off and it turned out I’d not done the torque turn on one rocker shaft and it had come loose. Luckily no damage just checked the pushrod was straight, which it was, tensioned the rocker shaft and reset the valves and it was good as gold. Ever since then I’ve triple checked all my internal engine bolts and lock nuts. It’ll stick with me to the grave that stuff up.
You work hard and go the extra mile but do the owners really appreciate what little tricksters you do with the experience you have. All the best Warren to you and your very understanding family. Great channel, love watching the champion go to town on truck engines. Al from across the pond in the UK.👍👍
I used to have a shop next to the tracks in Palisade Colorado ... We had to stop trying to talk when it went by, because it was next to an intersection also .., Nothing louder than a train horn 😅😅 Hope you got paid well on this one .... 👍
The very best of the best right there. Open, honest as the days long and calls it like it is. What more can you ask of him. Superb! Appreciate your work Warren, thank you for being genuine and forthright, you sir are a gent.👍
Years ago, I did gas service work on the Spanish Springs ranches around Termo CA. Got stuck out there in a blizzard once. Fun times. Now I deal with fixing other people's bad repair work all the time. Man, it sucks...and I'm seeing it more and more often.
Thanks for the video sir. Sure learned a lot from this one. Doing it cheap cost more in the long run, boy I have had to (in some cases) work with clients who whined and try to chisel you down on everything, that’s when the warranty was with drawn, then sometimes, you have a guy come in who is hard against the wall, and truly can’t afford to and yet not afford to do a right job, I willingly work with them as best as I was able to, without cutting my own throat, sometimes working with people is worse than working on a breakdown, but it’s all part of the game.
Never seen a push rod damaged like that. I am afraid for you on this one Warren. I hope this guy doesn't stiff you on it. If the cam bearings are that bad imagine what the rod and mains look like. That whole engine is junk. I would charge him an extra thousand dollars just for getting that push rod out. Can't wait to see the "rest of the story" on this one...
I never tier of your you tube channel each and every time I watch one the only thing missing is the dirt on my hands ( gloves ) because each video makes it feels like I'm there doing the task with you each and every time you educate me and every viewer who tunes in just what it takes to get the task done short of doing it ourselves Once again thank you sir for sharing your thoughts and experiences that come with being a master of your craft from north of the border in Hamilton Ontario Canada me and my best friend in the whole wide world my dog max
Hey, Warren Cummins has a tool to pull that back cam bearing , it has three spring loaded pins and uses a threaded rod with a big washer and a nut , I rented this tool from Cummins in Spokane several times a few years ago it worked good , it was a hell of a lot easier than pulling the engine or the transmission good luck buddy.
Hi Warren, giving a Thumbs-Up is for me always important. It's showing some "Thank you" for sharing the video and the work you've put in the video, besides the work you're doing. Keep up the good work.
Hello Warren, I gave you a thumbs up as usual. I remember working on a Cummins like this where a push rod came out because the adjustment was real loose. Fortunately it was easier to remove than yours was.
Warren you are the G.O.A.T. and I sincerely mean that! I have watched you fight these tough jobs for years and my hats off to ya!. One word on this customer..... As soon as he started talking about low balling this job I would have just told him to take it somewhere else! He's NEVER going to feel he got a good job because of the price he's going to have to pay to fix this screw up after having "ERNEST P. WORRELL" work on his rig! Man I don't know how you keep from sticking the dogs on these guys LOL!
One would think, even being a cheap skate, you'd still want things done right so it will last and not cost you a fortune later. I always give you a thumbs up prior to watching the video. I truly enjoy your video's and you're one of the very few on YT that people can learn from. Great video as always. Cheers :)
Thank you man for all your videos. Your a awsome mechanic and a excellent human being. Dont let the negative Nelly's get ya down. The haters are just jealous. You probably forgot more than those couch mechanics will ever no. Keep up the good work. Dont let the never wuzz types get ya down .
Great video Warren have always given you a thumbs up. Always enjoy watching you work on this truck and try to fix what the last excuse for a mechanic. Looking forward to your next video stay safe Warren.
You did a great job as always. There is no other way but to fix it right. I owned trucks and drove and repaired them for 50 years. Best Wishes to You .
Man that push rod took a hammering to get bent down around the cam that way, wow. Your right if your into it may as well at least give it a chance with some needed parts. You always receive an approval of your videos from me, I worked the on call towing service decades ago and understand your battle with some folks. Have a great week.
Hey Warren, great job and perseverance, following behind some hack is as Forest Gump said like a box of chocolates, you never know what you will find. Usually turns into a goat f**k. Been following you for a while, you have one of those channels where I hit the thumbs up button before I watch because it’s always good, I enjoy the banter and work ethic. We are a lot alike. Not a mechanic however I’ve been a commercial / industrial electrician for over 45 years so I am all to familiar with cleaning up messes created by some hack, one cannot out think a idiot. Thanks for taking us along, totally appreciate your opinions and knowledge. Stay safe brother, give the pups a treat.
Well you have got a right struggle on with that one warren . Let's hope you get the go ahead to replace the cam bearings And get it back together 👍👍👍👍👍
My mom was born in what used to be a mostly agricultural part of California. She also spect a lot of time in rural Oregon. Mom was dealing with terminal cancer and wanted su bad to see the Oregon she lived as a kid. Her last surviving nephew there was afraid she would be in for a real shock if she traveled there expecting to see it as she remembered it from her childhood. He kept telling me to be sure she understands that it’s not like it used to be.
Appreciate you posting this job since IMO leaky cam followers are the weakest point of this great engine. Wouldn’t be surprised if more of those push tubes are damaged from the bad overhead!
Thanks for your hard working ethics I worked n surfaced mining forty five years before retiring twelve years ago Iv worked with good mechanics but your tops be safe and thanks 🙏.
I was fighting rusted seized hydraulic hose to street ell fittings on 2 cylinders yesterday. Never could get 2 to break loose even with dull red heat. New fittings and hoses going on today...... Some days it sucks to be a wrench turner.
Saw the mechanic put a welding rod in a soda stray and poke it into the hole. Minute later broken head bolt came out on the rod. Pretty cool. You've probably done that too.
I've never come across anything like this mess Warren. I'm wondering if the person who wrecked this engine is a subscriber. I always give your work the thumbs up, you're a fantastic highly talented person who is an inspiration to us. Thank you from London UK
I work for Mack/Volvo and we get these guys all the time. Had one guy try to come onto the shop floor and complain how long it was taking because another shop only took “this long.” Hmm wonder why it’s back?
I pulled a conecting rod out of my 1964 Triumph TR4 that looked like that push rod, it was a lot easier than your struggle. I reckon that pushrod ends gunna have a ball in that oil pan..
Hey Warren, wow I’m not sure you should have taken on that job. No telling what the rest of that engine looks like. Crank and rod bearings could be just as bad. Well, good luck with that repair my friend. Thanks very much for sharing.
gday Warren from sunny Queensland , top video this one , good repair job , not a engine fail but a human fail to pay attention , good on you mate for sorting it out , cheers
So about the tool marks. I took note of the "cut lines" on the push rods and I have the view that the score marks were left by a "basin wrench". Which as a tool has an offset, and where I think, for what ever reason....the "non-mechanic" used that tool to in fact turn the pushrods as a tension operation was part of the process?. The test and capture of a bad injector I think would give this job a very satisfying band-aid. The root cause as led to your service.." Maybe to adjust down the rockers until bottomed out? Yes on thumbs up. As I became a subscriber about the time (before) the last service truck change up, As semi-retired from a large maintance position, 14 crew ....I have a great time as repair in a single bay shop. And I find that where customers are feeling various pressure. Thus, I have to be very careful to costs while as best service, listening to their concerns. The overriding fuel cost, and the financial realm linked to insurance and various tax....basic needs all spell a demand to "get by". Which is the sort of maint. pointer that gets lost as full on care about mechanical wear, best parts, plan for transport are the service need. Very real and underestimated much of the time by the customer. The exception, that group with a constant hands on best operation and savvy managers. Where individual fleet or production machines, are the cost that is built into goods. That drumbeat as skyrocket cost, impacting quite everything. What your posts have at the quality to service, simply speaks volumes. Shop to nature to shop. Parts channel to repair anything. I like. M.
Thumbs up button hit Warren 👍, Could you not warm the worn cam bearing up then let it shrink as it cools then pull with an inner bearing race slide hammer with a long bar sticking out the front of the engine ?
Or even though I don't know anything about engines and things like that I truly enjoy watching you do things that I have to lie have no clue about you are the man
Hello Warren. Those trains are something else. We don't get trains of that length here in the UK. That thing is Massive. We Sertenly got a good look at it. Most of our goods go by road on big trucks. That's one thing we have plenty of.
