My mission is to keep more bicycle riders in the sport.
Whether you can't afford to take it to a shop,
you don't have a way to transport it to the shop,
you don't have time to take it in for repairs,
or you just want to learn to fix, repair, and upgrade your own bike,
I will help to keep your bike running smooth and you riding longer.

Didn't have a bench vice, so I just used the freewheel removal tool, a crescent wrench, and hit the wrench several times really hard (counterclockwise) with a BFH. Did the job.

Can you do a video on how to upgrade old school wheels or just replace them?

Skyway now released their 24" mag wheels, takes only a bmx version of the 1/8, 1/8" mountainbike wont fit. I'm just building bikes with bmx chains and gears now. Does anyone know if the single speed threaded rear single cassette will fit into the mountainbike hub or if an adapter exists for that? These wheels are great, a little heavy but I don't mind.

I've used a half inch drive socket with a breaker bar. In the future if that doesn't work your info on using an impact driver will be of use.

I've got a skyway tuff2 not the early alloy hub type, that the freewheel is well and truly stuck. I've had it in a vice with removal tool, it's bent a chain whip and still it won't shift. Would a vinegar bath help or would it damage the hub? Thanks.

I would use a penetrating lube and let it sit a couple hour. you can find it a most hardware stores or in Amazon- amzn.to/3bD9HNU

Seems like the freewheel is not engaging. Either it is super dirty or it is shot. Hope that helps.

Do all freewheels use the same tool like you used? Do all freewheels fit a Bmx hub?

If my drivetrain is slipping and it's not the chain (which I'll find out this week ) would it be the Freewheel or the bottom bracket?
@thebasementbikeshop2336
@thebasementbikeshop2336 4 года назад
Most likely, the freewheel. Unless your sprocket is no longer connected to your crank.

will a bmx sprocket screw onto a mtb screw on hub?
@steviepancakes9005
@steviepancakes9005 3 года назад
Yes. Mtbs equipped with freewheel (thread on gears) will accept a single speed bmx freewheel the exact same way.

@@steviepancakes9005 so can a basic mtb rear wheel that has a freewheel 5 speed be replaced by a 1 speed freewheel just by removing the old 5 speed freewheel and putting any 1 speed freewheel in its place?

@thebasementbikeshop2336
@thebasementbikeshop2336 4 года назад
I've tried as many ways as i could think of and hurt myself trying. I advise getting a freewheel remover if you use it often or take the wheel to a local shop and ask then to remove it. Shouldn't cost much if anything at all. You don't need the tool to put it back on.
