Removing and soldering big BGA chip WITHOUT any preheating tools. Experiments with Agilent Scope
I decided tryting to remove and solder big acquisition chip without any preheating tools. Only hot air gun! Lets go!
I'm sorry about terrible views with my hands, i'm so sorry , i did this operation in "live mode", i hope you will enjoy this.
Experiments with Agilent/Keysight DSOX2012A Oscilloscope
I did that with Quick 2008 Hot Air Gun anf Quick TS1100 soldering stations/
Best cheapest chinese soldering soldering stations in my opinion.

How do you determine the chips alignment ? The ball grid array is equally balled, how do you know which way to seat the chip ? In chips interfaced with pins, there is a mark on the board designating where one (1st) pin is supposed to go and the pin displacement is recessed on that corner .
@fixthetempo7276
@fixthetempo7276 Год назад
In some cases there is a special marks on the board to help you to align the chip correctly. If not, before desoldering the chip (when chip is soldered to the board) i usually make some marks that will help me to align the chip when i will solder it

When you use Rose metal, doesnt that tend to corrode? It looks like you use it sparingly, & remove any left over solder with flux, wicking cable, & iron. Thanks 🤓
@fixthetempo7276
@fixthetempo7276 4 года назад
No it doesn't. As you said just remove left rose metal and that's ok. Rose metal is super helpful for many soldering operations such as connectors removing or preparing IC's for reballing. The main point using the Rose metal is to reduce the temperature of soldering.

You want to get a preheater when soldering on these boards , and ramp the heat slowly , then add the air to the chip at around 130c doing it just buy heating it up with hot air is way too brutal and ceramic caps can break , glass diodes break and you can get popcorning of the board and flexing ... meaning the board wont work at all.. great vid non the less

I smashed a camera, the support told me I could try reballing the sensor so I guess I'll try that before buying a replacement, it's nice to know I don't absolutely need a heating station. How do I determine the size of the balls? Just the size of the pads=diameter of the balls? Also, I just have a no-clean flux pen as of now, is flux gel a necessity or will my pen suffice?
