a short video on how to remove ceramic wall tiles on a bathroom wall with a paper scraper and a hammer.
i was wearing gloves for a bit of protection from any sharp shards of tile falling on my hand..
i would also recommend wearing some safety goggles as well.

Thanks for showing how to remove tiles without damaging the plaster board. I think that scraper is the best tools to protect the plaster board. I watched someone doing it with a screw driver and left him with a big mess and expensive project. Good one mate.

This is exactly what I was looking for. I don't want to buy a tool that I won't be using anymore and I'm only removing one row. Thank you, this is very helpful ;)
@gantz4u

I dont understand. An oscillating tool is like 20 bucks with the blades. It must have been $5 7 years ago and you get to reclaim tile. With tile prices 7 yrs in the future you could have made a killing harvesting tile whole and burying them in the woods for later.

I've just bought a new house and have to remove tiles from 1 kitchen, 1 utility room and 3 bathrooms (including 2 showers.) I was a bit worried but your video has been helpful so thank you very much! Looks like I might need some music playing in the background so I don't die of boredom though.

This video was a big help for the project ahead of me. I need to remove old tile that surrounds my tub about half way up the wall. I actually want to use a peel and stick foam tile to replace them. How do you prepare the wall after you remove the tile to do a retile?

I use this technique myself and the scraper is the best tool for getting behind the tiles. That said, if the tiles are installed properly with a decent amount of adhesive, it is a lot harder that this video demonstrates. Sad to say I do find doing this job quite therapeutic, I really must get a life.... :-)

Hello, Cool video. I just wish I had watched it before I tried removing my tile. I made a few nice holes in the wall by removing tile that was poorly glued. There was no grout, just the cement glue stuff. Is dry wall easy to patch up? Do I need to remove the plastered wall and reboard? Thank you!

Helpful. Could have been very funny if he'd made a few comments, like when he seemed to proudly show an intact tile! The odd 'Voila!' would have just turned it from a diy video to something a bit more viral! Though it was funny hearing him heavy-breathing about 7 tiles in! But at least he doesn't stop every other tile to stand back and admire his handiwork which my partner always does and it drives me mad as it means every tiny job takes 10 times longer than it needs to! Seriously, helpful video for beginners, thanks.

@jillhbaudhaan i am using a long handled paint/paper scraper which is also ideal for scraping the old tile adhesive of the walls. the older the tiles are are probably easier to get off than the newer ones i suspect.these tiles were probably on the walls for about 5/10 years at a guess.

Great video. If I may share my thought about taking the glue off. There is a product called "Spyder Reciprocating Saw Scraper". It can be used with a reciprocating saw. It'll save a LOT of time and energy. The best price I found for the scraper was at Lowes. I have personally not tried it yet, but do plan to experiment with the scraper at my next home improvement job.

I have removed tiles from walls and floors, I bet this is on a dry wall. If this was a brick wall it is much ,much more difficult to remove.I removed tiles from a corner bath, not one of those tiles came loose in less than twenty pieces. I was considering re tiling my bathroom but was concerned about actually damaging the wall due to the amount of force required to break away the tiles. Btw, I used a four pound hammer and a new broad bladed chisel edge.

+Is Az When we took off the kitchen backsplash ( a similar job) we used a hammer, several scrapers , a pry bar and even a crow bar . If you get too rough you will "pay " for it with extra clean up work .Some of these pieces are razor sharp and you have to do a thorough job cleaning up . We used a 2" putty knife, a 3" scraper, a 4" drywall scraper , basically any tool we had that we thought might work .
