With the right techniques this can be an easy task but if you don't know them selecting individual vertices/faces is a total pain. Hopefully this video should make things as painless as possible.

Thanks! It was this problem that led me on to learning blender at all. Been a fun new way to cry and swear at computers for a few years now!😆

I haven't seen the video or read the comments yet, but here's how I'm guessing he's gonna do it: Take the object into face mode, use the L key on one of the outer faces to select all the linked faces (so, all the outer ones), press ctrl I to inverse selection (so, selecting all cavities), and then delete faces. I'll watch the video and see if that's it. Edit: Well, I was half right. That first method is good too though, I hadn't thought of that...

Great stuff! I'd like to see a vid that does the opposite, like creating a cavity for something like a box that way it can be split after the fact.
@ArtisansofVaul
@ArtisansofVaul 2 месяца назад
@@NerdLegionInc I'm not exactly sure what you mean? Like make a cavity inside an object? You should be able to create an object and place it inside the one you want the void in and then use a difference boolean.

Another awesome video for some reason when I mesh everything together I use ZBrush and I hardly get this problem but I’d like another video on how to correctly fuse objects together
@ArtisansofVaul
@ArtisansofVaul 2 месяца назад
@raphaelsanabria7505 it's normally OK if the parts are the right thickness. It's more likely to be an issue if the parts are leaving a gap between them because they aren't thick enough, or there is an issue with the mesh before they are booleaned together.

I don't really think that the second option will allow to print it without any problems in all cases. In my experience, any intersecting geometry (as teeth and jaw here) can still cause troubles because a slicer can still think that there is a cavity there. After many hours of "repairing" such problems in uv tools I got myself "boolean everything properly and check the model from inside everytime" as a rule and it saved me a ton of time. But when I'm lazy and want to to print a model as quickly as possible - I just hit remesh in blender, set voxel size as low as I can to preserve initial quality and then decimate until the model is below 1mil triangles. Most of the time it will either remove all "problems" or will literally show you if there are any holes in your model.
@hauleroid
@hauleroid 2 месяца назад
Edit. I looked through the comments and saw that I'm not the only one who likes this method😂
@ArtisansofVaul
@ArtisansofVaul 2 месяца назад
As said in the video you will have to check everything is then booleaned together. The remesh option is there once you have removed the cavities as well but unless its an organic model I would agree its a lazy option as it leaves imperfect hard edges that can look horrible when scaled up in any way. But if it works at the scale you're working thats all good.
@davidgormley235
@davidgormley235 2 месяца назад
To make sure the teeth and jaw are joined well and to get rid of the internal geometry at the same time, you can do a voxel remesh too. If the cavity is too great it might be an issue but I've noticed that voxel remesh doesn't like internal geometry and works to get rid of it. I use this all the time since I exclusively use Blender for printable models. Helps fix the ones you get from online as well since, like you said, some people are lazy. I've had prints where arms and such print disconnected. To help with that, like with the teeth, I would scale all teeth by individual origins just enough that voxel remesh makes it all one solid while also getting rid of cavities. Don't get me wrong, I like and use what you have here. I just tend to do all of these and more to avoid losing another print to resin rot. I'm paranoid =P
@ArtisansofVaul
@ArtisansofVaul 2 месяца назад
@@davidgormley235 I'm not a huge fan of the remesh methodology as it will add a lot of geometry to objects that are flat and can sharp corners/edges. But for organic things it can work fine for sure.
@BaronBunny-fb2vp
@BaronBunny-fb2vp 2 месяца назад
@@ArtisansofVaul I usually set remesh high enough that all details are preserved and all corners are sharp(often getting 6-8 mil poly meshes lol), and then use decimate modifier at value from 0,1 to 0,03 depending on complexity of the object, so it gets into semi-reasonable territory and my slicer doesn't chug like hell. yeah, it's a crutch solution, but hey if it works it works.
@ArtisansofVaul
@ArtisansofVaul 2 месяца назад
@@BaronBunny-fb2vp Exactly right. There's lots of ways to come out to a good result in Blender 👍🏻
@davidgormley235
@davidgormley235 2 месяца назад
@BaronBunny-fb2vp yea I forgot to mention this step but that's exactly right. Just depends. Sometimes you can use the (I think it's called adjustability or something) bar that's under the voxel size which is rarely noticed or touched in the remesh modifier tab. It does something extremely similar to decimate. AoV is right for anyone interested. It's just one of many solutions and isn't potato pc friendly if you are trying to keep high detail. I just like throwing it out there as it's a way I had to use to fix many models you get online that are full of pockets and "joined" parts with gaps in between them. If you're learning fresh I mostly suggest AoCs methods. I just build most of my models in sculpt mode similar to using zbrush so I'm remeshing constantly. But a hammer in you're tool belt is just another tool. Careful when you use it as not everything is a nail =P

well, this seems nice, problem is that on the model I am currently on the inner cavaty is connected
@ArtisansofVaul
@ArtisansofVaul 11 дней назад
That's a frustration. Depending how connected it is (like a single point of entry) you can normally delete those edges and use a face to close off the mesh at both ends and then do this.

I’m still new to 3D modeling but am looking into a 3D printer, that also prints in color. What should I look for as far as beginners go? Thanks.

@ArtisansofVaul 2 месяца назад
It really depends what you are looking to print. If you are looking to print in colour I assume you're looking for an FDM printer?
@robert8794
@robert8794 2 месяца назад
@@ArtisansofVaul yes FDM does seem to be the best option for what I am looking for, but would there be a particular model you would recommend? Any key features that I should look for that will save me headaches later?

@ArtisansofVaul 2 месяца назад
@robert8794 So I have a Creality Ender3 v3 (I've got a review linked below) and it's great. Worked out of the box and the biggest issue I've had was a blockage once and I've been using it pretty aggressively/non-stop for weeks at a time. People also saw the bamboo printers are great but they are more expensive. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-k6zjN3QSNPc.html
