misterK this guys dumb for 1 hes in an enclosed room using very powerful aircraft grade paint remover with no mask or eye protection, and he scrapes the paint off with metal, you use plastic, sand paper or a sponge
- LOOK MUM NO... Health & Safety! - My freind!!!! at least some eye protection!!!!! Too late... Wait...Did he survive? HE DID?! Hmmmm Must have been outside the UK then...
Thanks for the inspiration, need to do this to a 94 Klein Quantum Z I just picked up cheap. It's in great shape other than the paint bubbled on the top tube and under the bottle cages cause the PO never wiped off his sweat.
I just repainted an old steel bike, and it took me 10 days to finish. The lesson learned was: make sure the primer, paint, and coat are dried on between the layers. Otherwise we could get a mushy or soft paint jobs even with the hardener. So a thin layer is better. As a beginner, it’s very tempting to put thicker paints especially on light colors such as candy tone.
Some of the most satisfying moments that I know of: 1. Inserting a flash drive perfectly the first time 2. Throwing a piece of garbage into the bin and making the "shot" 3. Drawing a perfect circle freehand 4. 6:28
My late Uncle emigrated to America. He brags he’s one of the best car painter in Georgia. Which is true as I’ve seen pictures of his works and cars he painted featured in calendars. Unfortunately he doesn’t believe in wearing PPE masks. Yeah ‘Murica masks are for wussies! One day he just dropped dead on the floor at work. 911 was called and they were able to revive him from cardiac arrest. But he never woke up in a coma at the hospital.
@@iMadrid11 dammm whoa..so sorry brotha,, we are surrounded by chemicals all over as it is ( food, perfume, car exhaust, radiation etc etc ) and then to understimate these things ,, that's a sure blow to the human body and it's organs,, so yeap totally agree with you,, safety first,, always ppe,, gloves,, ventilated areas,, mask,, goggles,, and all pets away from ya at the moment of releasing fumes and can sprays,,
I don't know whether to attribute it to weak stripper from Home Depot (it was the strongest stuff they had), or the tenacity of the paint on my bike... but it took me 16 total hours of stripper, steel wool, and a brass wheel to get the hideous orange paint off of my GT Distortion. Good video, though. Brings back some memories of that very time-consuming project.
thank you I have a beach cruiser I got at a yard sale I been eyeing a new schwinn when I drove by and seen this clunker Murray at a yard sale kind of tore up but just what I needed they dont make them like this in my country anymore I got my girlfriend a brand new bike American company made in china not nearly built as good as this old timer. both of us are 59 we ride in comfort for exercise and enjoy the outside
hia..if you fancy a project and a half, I have a Cannondale DeltaV 700 that's got some MAJOR problems. Firstly, I had to get rid of the Headshocks as I bent them on a downhill...in the snow...when my front wheel found a fox hole. secondly, the welds are failing on the rear seat stay bulkhead...the welds are failing because I dented the underside and bent the chainstay...I bent the chainstay hopping about doing trials while fitted with a daves-chain-device (DCD). As the Chainstay is bent, the rear triangle is all out of alignment and I can't centre the wheel. it's either someone takes on an epic repair job or I have to strip it and take it to the tip :( shout up if you're up to the job!
A cheaper way is to brush the frame with standard paint stripper , eg Nitromorse and then cover it up with cling film (ceranowrap?) to concentrate the chemical fumes over night.
nitromors today does not work at all. i have bought it last week to do my bicycle frame and it didnt even crack. complete rubish of a product. maybe 10 years ago the ingridients in the UK were different. today is rubbish. im looking for a good product as we speak
Mmmmm love me some MEK with no respirator, no glasses, and some shitty thin nitrile gloves! Congrats man! You just took a couple years off of your life!
Most people upgrade bikes etc so it would need doing either way not many people keep stock paint or parts on bikes if they are serious about mtb as a sport
I was going to point out the same thing. Steel bikes generally need to be painted to protect against rust, but aluminum "rusts" to form aluminum oxide (saphire), which is clear and hard and prevents further oxidation. I am not sure why it is considered trendy to leave titanium bikes unpainted and paint aluminum ones. (I don't plan on removing the paint from either of my aluminum bikes, though).
To be fair, Cannondale used shit paint that flakes off quite easily. Not sure if that was a thing with aluminium bikes back then but everyone I've got my hands on has flaky paint and I'm pretty sure they neglected to use primer. It usually takes a few applications and a lot of elbow grease using this stuff on a well painted steel frame. Nice vid BTW.
Hey, I'm looking to strip the paint off my cyclocross bike. I'm British but actually live in Warsaw. So my question is, where can I get this remover from?
I'm having a hard time believing how easy paint stripping is here on most videos. I spent a week stripping and sanding because my stripper either dries out in 2 minutes and hardens the paint again or turns 10% of the coat into a thick muck. Are there different kinds difficulties of paint and different tiers of paint stripper?
Ughhhh home jobs like this are not only dangerous but also aircraft stripper can cause issues with chemical reactions if using 2k urethane as primer, paint and clear. Best to sand it down to the sealer primer. Also no respirator is very bad
jay lake I'm actually not trying to insult you.. it's not worth it, you think you are really awesome here, throwing all this crap in my face but, lets face it, it's really childish and a waste of your time :) have a great evening..don't grow a pair, grow up.
do not waste money on paint remover and/or time for bothering that! Get a 200 ml Petrol, get some clean easy burning wood, pile wood onto top of each other, put some petrol (or something burns a lot and quickly) onto wood, than put the frame or whatever metal you are trying to clean the paint off, burn it. Whole paint, primer etc. will come out. Than wash the frame, some metal brush etc. and some sanding to smooth it, that is it. If you have propane blow torch, it will be even easier. Paint remover stupidly expensive and leave lots of paint, woles, corners etc. too hard to remove. Paint burns very very easy.
Nice work friend , and that is some great working paint stripper you got there . I wonder if it's like the airplane stripper hmmmm ? I think you marked this video part 2 in error , because I don't see a part 1 ? Thanks will look for the rest of the series...
Someone please help cause i can’t find any info on this, looking to respray my full suspension bike frame, however im unsure whether i’d get away with leaving the bearings in and masking them or if it’s best to remove them, im sure its probably the latter but would it possibly ruin the bike if it was to be masked and sprayed with the bearings still in it? Cheers
There's still still no name or components for the paint stripper... I could actually order it from Poland (or maybe it's already available in some Latvia's shop), cause the reaction with paint is unimaginable!
was the original paint on that bike baked on ? i used a paint remover from auto parts store its safe for metal but not working so easy like your spray did. its barely coming out at all ..my bike frame paint was baked on
i torched the powder painted aluminum frame off sucessfully yesturday !!!! : ) .. frame is good still. just remember do notttt stay in one place too too long that could start melt hole in your frame or move around the welding possibly ..
Dang bro why can't you hold the paint remover still so we can read what kind so that way I can buy one too. I admit it works but pls hold it still so we can read what kind
