Cool winnowing technique, but i'm not sure how she managed to dislodge the hulls in this clip. How does the big stick/pestle crack the hull without smashing the individual grains?
My grandparents would probably nag me on how much rice I flunged while removing the husks. And milling trucks pass by to get rid of the majority of the rice husks but removing the remaining and rocks are done like this at home. But its a lot more challenging if its red rice or black rice xD
Both actually, though you're right that the emphasis is on winnowing. She does some hull removal with the pounding bit. Winnowing is actually pretty easy (though she's very efficient at it!). For rice, hulling would be the process that would frustrate most people trying to grow their own, as rice hulls hold tightly compared to something like wheat.
