Yes, as you need to be able to loop the belt off the pulley to remove the wheel. To help with re-tensioning the belt, you can make a mark on the axle and swing arm to get it close to where it needs to be.
@@ramblinchris400 thanks i just had an idea of if i removed the axle, i'd be able to push the wheel towards the front end, and leave the tensioners in place - looking forward to your video, especially if your bike has the gauge on the lower belt guard like mine has, i need to find the specs for that from a manual too
On my bike, the fender needs to come off to take off the front because the bolts are through bolts and there is not enough space for the tire to get past. I know not all are like this so not all sportsters will need the fender remove. As far as the caliper, I am able to remove wheel with the caliper in place
