One of many beautiful songs by a vibrant band that deserved much more attention and love than others at the time. This song is a crushing blow to the chart topping drivel that was praised as well. Remy Zero was never given their proper accolades. Their music spoke to a generation that knew exactly what they were saying.
This band is a huge example of how many amazing musicians never make it as big as they should. Under-appreciated, big time. I've loved this whole album - Villa Elaine - since 2000.
Ohhhh, this song...the vocals....the music....the delivery..... it sounds both heartbreaking and powerful. Soulful...beautiful, unforgettable. I fuckin love it so much. Timeless and genius.❤❤❤
(Here they come, here they come Here they come and they might as well Too many birds in my confusion now Now they'll circle over this house till we take them in) You show me a sign to rise up from the world we know And she's strung out on life He soon rolls his teeth Spilling out from a mouth fit to overflow Back into me She moves and it's fire (fire underwater) Speaks of its flame (she speaks my name) Well they all really want you If only you had wanted them Lights move in the chalk lines Chains that define who I am Here we are again how could I have seen? Always she's driving how could I have known? Right through the strangest calling I should have known Straight through the sound gramarye, I've found See how she's driving me down Straight from the sound She's seen as a bright sun to anyone Hollow and mined With the weight of the world Trailing out till the last train Discovers me Alive on Vine She moves and it's fire fire underwater Speaks of its flame she speaks my name As you move in a chalk line Change in the dream that I am Here we are the same I used to see something in the idea But only once did my hands reach Anything beautiful Now she's turned away And I... We move in it's fire (show me a sign) (fire underwater) Speaking its flame (it speaks my name) She proves (soon roll its teeth) the liar On every one of them (we are the same) Lights move in a chalk line Change in the fire who I am Here we are again How could I have seen? always she's driving How could I have known? right through the strangest calling Straight through the sound, Gramarye, I have found, See how she's driving me Always she's driving Back through the strangest calling Straight through the sound Gramarye, I found See how she's driving me down
Still hard for bands to top. Nicest guys in the world too. I drove up to Atlanta and New Orleans to see them from Tampa and they were so kind, so cool, so humble. Time to get the band back together boys, we need you.
An amazing song, I can't make a lot of sense of the lyrics. the video is a a little creepy. What the heck is a Gramerye? What a cool intro. I love how it fades back in at 3:23 . I love the drums on this- rest in peace Gregory Slay.
Deathdude650 - I know! I always equated Remy Zero with Lex Luthor, because of the commonality of being bald... and their music isn't exactly uplifting, but dark and brooding and moody, and mysterious. Love this song and miss this band!
Remy Zero forever. I remember when Shannon Doherty was married to the lead singer and came onto Total Request Live with their shirt on lol. Was supposed to be the next big thing but it never happened that way. I listen to tons of Music but Villa Elaine will always have a special place in my heart.
Man, you were right Cinjin, this is absolutely amazing still. I didn’t remember it until you mentioned it and then when I looked this up like the first note I was like oh shit yeah that one this was fire.
i love this band, the guys voice is incredible, bought the cd in 1999, just found i the other day, sounds just as good, 20 years old, wish i could get this on vinyl
@ Patrick Houston, Cinjun Tate (vocalist) was actually married to Alyssa Milano. It didn't last very long either. Too bad they didn't make it any bigger than they did. They were a great band!
I listened to a lot of modern rock radio in Chicago in 1999-2001 but nonetheless, first heard this song in 2017 after hearing an old 90s interview where Billy Corgan was asked to name a current song that was on his radar. He said very few bands were "writing a new blueprint" but that there was one Remy Zero single that stuck out in his mind as an exception. That led me here and I do think this song is a lost gem.
This was my exes favorite song, & I knew how he applied it to me & the dark times our relationship was in then....so at times it was torturous to listen to, but I couldn't stop. Thankfully, I finally let him go.
Almost 25 years ago, I was dating a guy online named Remy (I was in 7th grade lol) who loved his Smashing Pumpkins' Zero shirt and I randomly searched "Remy Zero" on Ask Jeeves and found this amazing band. Such a happy accident!
@SELENAPUNK What's people's problem with Vevo? Occasional commercials before watching a free music video? Not being able to post the same song that you can already hear here? At least that way the band gets a percentage of the money from partnership.
