The way she uses her mouth is always the most impressive thing to me, her breath support is incredible enough, but her availability to use her jaw and the way she digests the words, vowels and sounds.. just miraculous
I just want the internet to know that I blasted this song while I was on a Venetian city bus through the grand canal and everybody around me got emotional, and every time I listen to this song I go back to the Grand canal of Venezia
Can you imagine carrying that voice within your body, your soul, your heart? Wow. I'm so grateful that I can hear this magnificent voice. Renee Fleming is wondrous.
Pavarotti, and one point in his career, used to talk about his voice as something he "carried". Something that had to be taken care of, something that imposed a certain lifestyle on him, made demands - like a child. I found this very interesting - the perception of the voice as something separate from himself.
@@staffanolofsson8201 just a nice voice? That's like saying DaVinci was just an artist. I find Renee Fleming and others like her to be a wonderful counterbalance to the cardi b entertainment universe. Maybe there's still a little room at the adult table for real beauty that will stand the test of time. Maybe.
A beautiful woman with the most beautiful smooth and controlled voice. I consider myself so fortunate to be able to listen to you Renee. Thank you. Jeff Green
When I was younger, I had the great good fortune to perform with people who, whilst not being quite at Renee Fleming's level, were still spectacular by any artistic standard. They were perfectly normal but you did catch yourself sometimes looking at them and thinking, 'how on earth did you just do that?'
Except that it's not really effortless is it? I know that it seems effortless but so do swans. The reality is, even with immense natural talent, you still have to work. Fortunately we get blessed with the results.
Listening to this rendition of Renee Flemming hypnotizes me! I have many favorite pieces of music and performances, but this is the pinnacle of all. Unmatched perfection!
Casta diva is not all the way through gentle singing but also dramatic explosion. She pretty much does everything equal cause her voice is not a dramatic one . So generally it doesn't matter that she sings soft all the way ,this is a masterpiece of inner dramatic contrast.
I've seen Renee in recital and opera at the Chicago Opera and Orchestra Hall. She always has the MOST beautiful sound of every note and register and has remained my favorite soprano since I heard her almost 30 years ago in he CD "The Beautiful Voice" No one compares to her!
In August 2015 I had the pleasure of meeting Renee, when she came to where I work at the property of Dame Nellie Melba in Melbourne Australia. Just in awe she wanted to see the room and the piano the Melba sang and played in. She retired not long after.
I don't know about angels in heaven, but everything about Renee in this performance is angelic, divine, heavenly...a goddess singing to a goddess...💖💖💖
All that's missing are the the oak tree, the Athamé, the full moon, the Mistletoe and Norma's Druid Congregants! Here is Norma! So beautiful, delicate and also powerful, as only Ms Renée Fleming can bring it!
it's funny how people argue on youtube about who is better, everyone got so much time for mutual insults! Caballe is incredible in this role, with all the flat notes she is still one of the best. anybody can dissect any performance until nothing is left of it but why bother if at the end of the day she takes your breath away. Fleming has always been scooping into notes. why not, i ask you? she's got a gorgeous voice and an exquisite musicality. Callas screeches on top notes like an unoiled hinge of an old door and yet she is got such magic to her, you just can't stop listening. that's what real talent is about - never perfect and ... always perfect. Stop arguing and enjoy.
Word! Callas did screech and was still amazing...these are humans singing, ya know...this was a gorgeous rendition and Callas is also great. What’s with all the competition?
20 years ago I watched a B Grade move called 10.5 or something like that? It was about a monster earthquake. I watched the movie because the adverts for it were accompanied by this hauntingly beautiful melody that was hummed by a female singer. I had no idea what the melody was, but I loved it so much that I watched the entire movie just so I could read the credits to find the name of the song. I was bummed when the credits did not show it. So I went searching for the song. Finally, one day maybe a year later I found it. It was this song Casta Diva. Since that time I have listened to so many renditions of the song by so many different sopranos, and I can say with certainty that I love this rendition by Renee Fleming the best. He voice is exquisite! Her rendition is so melodic. Just beautiful & such a wonderful pleasure to listen to.
I love that in these classical settings the audience is respectful to the artists and wait until the price in completely done before showing their gratitude. Nothing bothers me more than watching a legendary performance while having crazed fans scream their lungs out.
There’s a time, place and obligation for the opera audience to go completely insane. After Dame Joan Sutherland’s now legendary debut performance of Lucia di Lammermoor at Covent Garden in 1959, the audience just couldn’t help it. It was, and remains, one of operas’ most miraculous performances.
This is a vocal-orchestral merging made in heaven. As a total opera non-professional, I feel as if the orchestra and Ms. Fleming were totally in sync with one another. It was so mesmerizing that I think I held my breath for what seemed to be minutes. So delicious!
I've never heard anything so out of this world, wow she really inspired to believe anything is possible, there's talent and then there's talent, hard work, and belief in yourself that you can be the best. I literally started tearing up through this bc she's so amazing! I'm so inspired!
The will is immeasurably more important. I teach everyone the same way. But one four-year-old girl learned to paint oil in 2 minutes. Others cannot reach that level over the years.
Control so chillingly divine; listening in 2020 and finding my confined quarters still allow the soaring of my soul to great thanksgiving for this life.
This is R Fleming rendition of “sexy diva”. Her facial expressions are confusing. She smiles at the beginning then she appears confused then she makes sad faces. Does she understand the meaning of the aria? It’s very questionable!!
Never heard of this amazing woman... After this performance I will never forget her! Thank you to whomever told you yes. Angelic voice. Superb talent. Wow!
Ma chanteuse préférée, voix sublime et magnifique et pleine de sensibilité, elle me donne la chair de poule et me fait pleurer. Voix toujours aussi belle.
I think I'm finally starting to understand why my English teacher in high school said his favorite soprano was Fleming... What a blessing on this Earth
@@sergeymedvedev2493 THAT is only an OPINION! ....................... Callas was frequently great - and just as frequently terrible - and off key!~ Her "stage presence" was incomparable !!!
@@johnmelz9898 Her Voice, Acting, Stage Presence, & Life we’re Opera. Really- Her recordings are still best sellers, more books have been written about her, more documentaries, plays, movies, more discussions about WHY Callas was the greatest- The only answer is, Callas was a Gift from the Gods. 💔
Singing like all art is subjective. I love Renée but I also love other singers' interpretations. I agree with some of the comments that being a "top seller" is not indicative of talent... nor is fame. I also do not think we can COMPARE voices... clearly most singers who have achieve some level of fame are superior singers than I can ever hope to be soooooo instead of comparing apples to oranges, I like to savour every flavour... :-) if you do not like... don't listen. BUT maybe you will hear something new and different and it might touch you differently .
It does seem strange doesn't it? All I can say is that opera seems to be an almost uniquely divisive artform. As you can see from some of your other replies, people can be very passionate about their support for particular artists.
Renee Fleming is a national treasure, no matter what she sings. She could sing the phone book and make it beautiful! I wish I could’ve seen her on stage as Norma. Such a fantastic and beautiful voice.
they are different person, i like the timbre and beauty from Fleming’s voice. Callas certainly have that dramatic approach to Norma, but consider those wobbly high notes its not really pleasant. Sutherland also have weakness with pronouncing pure vowels. They are all great artists on their own!
Sans aucun doute, une voix incomparable, une pure diva, un son cristallin, une rondeur incroyable, sa voix ne grince jamais dans les aigus absolument splendides et une puissance émotionnelle rare......
Paradise exists because artists like you Renée. God bless for having the pleassure of living at the same time than you. Thanks for let me fly freely just sitting in my room.
She is good even with the pronunciation of words something that, sometimes, it bothers me in some US opera singers singing in Italian, French, or even German (a strong accent). Renée's voice simply flies inside the music. She is angelically made for Puccini, Verdi or even Wagner kind of opera. She is one of the best Sopranos of the new generation!!
For many years I had Maria Callas as the beacon to follow for interpreting the magnificent Bellini's Casta Diva, until I heard Mrs. Renée Fleming, thank you Madame Fleming, Bellini would be very proud and happy to hear you "Tempra oh Diva quest'aria magnifica.
When you are one of the very best singers in the world you get to perform in palaces! What lovely singing with perfect control and interpretation. Well done, Renee!
Renee is my favourite soprano of all time! The most exquisite tone, soft, yet powerful. This rendition of Bellini's Aria is the most beautifully sung, by Renee, than any other soprano. My favourite Aria and she sings in the most beautiful setting of the Palace of the Tzars! What could be better?
I've just finished listening to Radnovsky (sp?), Callas, Sutherland, Netrebenko, and now Fleming sing this aria.. They're all beautiful and sublime, but in different ways, and i'm not enough of a musician to say how.
