Ren has enough talent pitch and vocal wise to never choose to use autotune if he wanted to. In this case it was a textural choice His catalog is filled with him busking on the streets with nothing but a guitar and a mic, straight into the amp and his vocals are amazing every time.

I can't remember the exact quote, but Ren said he's not against autotune as long as it's used as a texture for part of a song. He said something similar about the AI animation that his animator used in Su*cide. I feel the same way. I can't stand autotune when it's used for an entire vocal track, but love the way Ren used it here, as part of his production palette.

"He's purposefully making it so the notes don't match" yeah, he's absolutely trolling commercial rap. That's why he's using those "common" flows and making them more complex and deep than the artists he's "paying homage to" (if you can even call it that, it's more like "showing them how to do what they're doing but with actual rap skills").

I think most people who love Ren's music also love thoughtful, honest, and authentic reactions. Definitely one of the reasons I come here especially when I see a new Ren reaction pop up. I definitely hear you on other music genres going down the same path. I have always loved rock too, but very little of it after 2000 can match stuff that came out from the '70's through the 90's. There are always good indie artists, but most of the commercially popular things that call themselves rock today just isn't rock. I think Ren has a lot of old rock fans too - at least based on the comments I've seen. The authenticity and originality grabs everyone's attention. P.S. I love your channel!

I thought that too. His tracks are full of punk references and inspiration. Genesis live acoustic, Crucify Your Culture and The Big Push's Watch Out show a little more obvious punk inspiration, Ian Drury and John Lydon vibes.

Ren has stated in numerous interviews that hes not anti-capitalist, nor is he communist. Hes pretty much said the same thing as you did - they all have their merits but when taken to extremes, they become problematic and someone always ends up top of the pile abusing power. He's pretty vocal on sitting in the middle of the political spectrum - borrowing ideals from each side to create a harmonious society that benefits all. Great reactions as always, bro! Keep it up. If you havent already added it to the list - Crucify Your Culture. Its more of a Rage Against The Machine style song than straight up rap - but is one of the songs that addresses this subject pretty well!

And another comment I hope you see - he's mentioned that his music (specifically Money Game) highlights the negative and dark side of the American Dream - and that the dream and capitalitic ideals in themselves are not bad things, it's just that people abuse it and utilise it to create division. He's also mentioned that without capitalism we'd just be a society stood still - never striving for better. Again - he seems very similar in his thoughts and ideals to how you articulate on the channel!

Ren has already been in discussions with Prof and Tech n9ne to do a collab. I believe they reached out to Ren and this is in the works. His aggressive treatments run till February, I saw a picture from his patreon page and he looks wore out and tired. So nothing will happen till at least after Feb.

This track & "Seven Sins" are my favs on the new album thus far, but I've honestly never heard a song of Ren's that didn't display his many talents as a musician. Ren was actually not intending to put this track on the album, it was a toss-up between this & 2 or 3 other tracks, & he chose the 1 that seemed to fit the flow of the album best while also sounding dif from any other track, he didn't want to pile on songs that seemed to sound too much alike. Jsyk, we all appreciate your brutal honesty: not everyone is going to dig every flow, every lyric, & every product, plus nobody who has even a touch of good taste likes auto-tune 😂

If you’re going to do songs off of Sic Boi, most songs, not all, have videos that came out b4 album dropped. Just an FYI to look for the b4 reacting. Would love to see your reaction on “What you want, Down on the Beat” but doesn’t matter because I will watch anything Ren! Also, IF you’re going to do “Animal Flo,” it helps to know reference to the book “Animal Farm.” Otherwise one might be lost in the chaos🤪 Thanks for your reactions to Ren. I’ve really enjoyed them.

Bro, this is my favorite reaction, like, ever. I never thought about the song being a jab at mainstream rap. That was awesome. If you get a chance, react to Masochist by Ren. Your analysis is awesome! After some wicked ways I became a teacher and I use Ren and Harry Mack in my lessons when I think they aid to the lesson topic. One thing they both have in common is their passion for practicing. So when anyone asks about the flows they have I always answer: "I'm a hip hop head for 35 years now and I never spend hours rapping to a metronome". That's why I'm a teacher that can rap but not a rapper that can teach. 😊 Keep it going!

@@notrashtolerated You have a great taste for hip hop and lyricism because I already used The Wickerman Therory for my introduction to poetry. First I just handed out the lyrics to be analyzed and at the end I revealed it was Chester's song. You should have seen the student's faces. :)

@@notrashtolerated We needed two sessions because the lyrics made the kids come up with so many follow up questions and ideas. And when it came to short stories I did the same procedure: Gave em the short story Talking dog (hihi) and when they said that it must take a long time to write something like that I showed them Harry's freestyle. Both songs made them realize that everyone can be creative and that practice is the key, even though it might be boring at times. Is it an unusual method? Yup, does it activate the kids on a whole other level? Hell yeah! :) And don't get me started to talk about Ren in class because I could write a didactic/method book about how much he inspires my classes.

I find it interesting to get the perspective of folks that do listen to a lot of hip hop. I'm 50. My days of listening to hip hop were a long time ago, with NWA, Geto Boys, Kool Moe Dee, KRS, Digital Underground, Too $hort, stuff like that. Before I found Ren about 6-7 months ago, I listened almost exclusively to Alt Country/Americana stuff like Wilco, Jason Isbell, Slaid Cleaves and Hayes Carll...the thing in common is the masterful story-telling. I got away from hip hop when it moved to just bragging about cars, women and money and lost the actual soul of what hip hop was...but the point is that I don't listen to current hip hop, so I appreciate your perspective.

You speak the truth. Capitalism and socialism should co exist and creat a balance for all. that would empty 70 percent of the prison population and equality for all that want it. good paying jobs with 401K 3 or 4 weeks paid vacation a year and 30 paid sick days. every employee gets an amount of stock in the company each year. Triple time for any hours over 40 per week. yeah nobody needs anough money for 100,000 lifetimes. BALANCE IS A MUST!!!

It was such a perfect "beef" to watch unfold, cuz dotta came at it all totally bass-ackwards and tried to get clout he hadn't earned etc. and then he got what was coming to him. Why the hell anyone watches react channels and gets upset about pausing is beyond me! If you want to just hear the music, watch the original! Another for your long ass list 🤣 The Big Push - Swan Song ... Think almost choir-ish singing. You'll see that Ren can definitley hit those notes and actually got slightly offended when someone said he couldn't sing and only autotunes lol. He does have a couple of spots he auto tunes, but like someone else commented, it's for artist inflection and not the "I just need to bend this note to hit it" reason most pop stars do these days. 🙂

Yeah I thought it was perhaps Ren flexing that he could also pull-off a mainstream sound if he wanted to but now you said it, all the “shheee” ad-libs and that particular flow style feel like he’s taking the piss a bit while also sticking a middle finger up to those who’ve questioned is legitimacy as a MC. Though I do like that he can seem to effortlessly recreate a hip hop sub genre sound which I don’t even like and make me appreciate it because he actually gives it lyrical substance. For me I fell out of love with hip hop when “gangsta” became the prevalent driving force which took it all into the mainstream, so when “fiddy” came along it was just more yawn time for me.

Notes don't match because he is subtlely dropping in to Brit/SKA from the 70's/80's...that has firm roots in Reggae with the existing beat akin to those genres and then adding the SKA staple organ and matching it with SKA/PUNK vocals. Weaving the genres like no-one else. All while hiting and switching hardcore rap candances. Demonstrating his respect and skill for Hip Hop...Why/How??......... because he is a f....king genius.
