This faire is about 50 miles north of Houston. I go there every year. It is freaking huge. The biggest Ren faire in the country, by far.

I’ve been going to the Texas Ren Fest for years and I even went when I was a kid with my family. It’s one of those things that we who grew up in Houston, Texas grew up doing. The RenFest spawned an entire subculture of D&D playing GoT watching nerds that would dress up like medieval folks and head out to Plantersville, Texas for an incredible event! So many memories! I’ve heard this King George was quite a character. Looking forward to checking this doc out!

This is so creepy, sad, disgusting. These people allow themselves to be at this guys mercy.I couldn't get though the second episode. The woggly eyes of George add to his creepiness.

Ren Faires are a blast. They're way more immersive and participatory than any corporate amusement park. The entertainment and talent on display gets honed to perfection by performers who travel from local faire to local faire so is often elevated to 10x the comedic, musical and daring performances you could ever see at your local theater, county fair or boardwalk. I'm from Texas and happen to have some old friends who live and work at Ren Faires full-time. It's definitely a small world where everybody knows everybody. So, I'll have to ask about this toxic King and the documentary. However, most of the stories I've heard paint a very different picture of familial camaraderie of a nationwide tribe of mutually supportive crazies and creatives.

I agree! I've attended the PA Ren Faire since 2004, when my classmates and I went on a class trip together. The Faire is the one place in the world I can let my olde soul self out and be free

I went to one in Novato, CA before it closed down. It was a lot of fun and definitely a one of a kind experience. There's an annual one close to where I live now, and I've never felt the need to go again, lol. Casa de Fruta (near Gilroy) has one. You should give it a try, Chris.

Just watched episode one last night. Had trouble wondering what happened in real time as a doc vs directors going “ok, look sad as you walk around devastating as you receive a phone that Louie may steal the deal from you.” Was this filmed after events in real time?

I’ve been to that specific Ren Fest several times. I live prob 20 min from the grounds. It’s, interesting, to say the least. It was VERY VERY raunchy for several years and had to be cleaned up for families. All in all a very interesting experience for sure. Fun though

I can't understand why the faire would sign off on the release of this documentary. It makes them look really bad, especially their leader, George. He is portrayed as hyper-egotistical, condescending, barely lucid, and downright creepy. I think a documentary about the faire would've been much more fun than a documentary about George. This documentary absolutely diminishes the reputation of the faire. It makes it seem like an awful place run by a madman.

I worked at a Ren Faire for 4 years for an owner who was a sex offender so I think this may be a skip for me 😂 Truly some of the most amazing people I have ever worked with or met worked there though.

I think it’s hard to call this a true doc. A lot of heavy handed producing, and acted beats. I’m a producer in Doc and Unscripted. And there are clearly moments where this crosses the line into heavy handed reality producing… honestly I have worked on gritty docs very hands off and house reality. I can tell there are moment when it get very VERY produced. Kind of unethical if you ask me, but interesting film series.
