Dads comment of "Thats not rap, thats poetry" is 100% spot on. I kept seeing this song pop up and I'm only just now hearing it for the first time with you guya and I'm blown away by it! This is the definition of art and poetry through song. This dudes freakin incredible!
I just love watching and reading the new people discovering Ren. He's still very ill. He only developed mental health issues after being misdiagnosed and given meds that caused hallucinations. They finally found it was Lyme disease and he's in Canada getting special treatment until this summer. Since he was misdiagnosed for 10 years Lyme disease did a lot of damage and he's trying to reverse that. My second favorite Ren song is Chalk Outlines with Chinchilla. It has echoes of his illness throughout it, especially the mental illness
@@annebiebrich9155 Exactly. Rap means Rhythm and Poetry. Rap was born from the culture of Hip-Hop and while sometimes it has been corrupted because of it's commercial value, it stays nonetheless an heritage of that culture. It was created to fight oppression and give people a voice, rap is a by product and it can be just as deep as anything hip-hop. So I'd say, it is rap, just non-commercial rap. I think Ren describes himself as a bardcore artist which really fits him well.
I never had a Dad I was raised into a man late in life by my Uncle Sam in the 3rd Infantry, Dad's are under rated the world needs more dads that stick around.
Hello again, my friend. I agree wholeheartedly with you. I lost my dad when I was ten years old, so I grew up without a proper male rolemodel in my life. Thankfully, back then (47 years ago) even TV characters were better rolemodels than some of today's fathers.
@@JensRandolff Hi Jens it's nice to see you again. you are right these days TV dads are all Homer Simpsons = drunk dummies. These days a dad has to break the mold hard cause the mold is terrible.
It is allways a hard thing for me to imagine. My bluecollar dad is my hero. A rock in my life. He taught me everything I know and set me on a path in life that has given me nothing but love and respect from fellow humans. I am an electrician, the same trade as him, and I spent years doing jobs on construction sites he worked at, so he showed me the ropes long before I even started my apprenticeship. All my life I have been trying to become half the man he is in my eyes. Not having that in my life would really have made me struggle to find my place and purpose... Even more than I allready have been. What I am trying to say is: You should be proud for carving your own way and figuring things out on your own. In many ways I think it made you stronger! as they say: Hard times makes strong men... Strong men create good times. Good times create soft men. Soft men create hard times. It all goes round and round... You sir was forged in fire and are the shining knight of the future generation. :) -Have a good weekend!
Just about everything you see in his videos is put together by Ren himself from end-to-end. As for his 'training', he's been into music since single-digit age and has been an active busker for years now, which he's said is still one of his favorite ways to play music
It was not split personality, it was dark and light side of yourself which everyone has. Ren was sick for years and misdiagnosed for years until finally diagnosed with lyme disease. Because it went misdiagnosed for so long it did permanent damage. He is in Canada right now getting treatments that he has to pay for by himself for 6 months. Read his community page. He is an incredible mind.
It was a performance..but if you want to see Ren put on a one man play, then you must do The Tales of Jenny and Screech Full version. You two would love it!
Yep, you will truly enjoy The Tale of Jenny and Screech (the FULL version). You'll get to experience a 3-part "play" and see even more of this young man's talents in action.
Hi Ren performed this live during filming ( four takes ) He was born in Wales lives in Brighton was busking in Brighton when he got noticed and was Signed by Sony, he became very ill he was constantly misdiagnosed Sony dropped him. He was recently diagnosed with Lyme’s disease and is currently going through treatment in Canada. Great reaction ❤️ he catches us all off guard every time 🇬🇧 Jenny and Screech ( full ) is defiantly a recommendation
Gotta watch Chalk Outlines (Live) with Chinchilla about prescribed drugs or How to be Me (Live) about suicide awareness with Chinchilla two masterpieces, they sing so well together
Great fun watching your faces. Check out a duet with Chinchilla "How To Be Me" (live) and also the covers he did with the band The Big Push (performed on Brighton streets) -esp Paint It Black
This is the latest of a long list of reactions I've watched of "Hi Ren" but an amazing thing happened. Just at the moment he said "many names also, some people know me as hope..." The sun came out above the clouds right in front me like the universe spoke. I can't remember the last time I saw a sunrise. Thanks for the reaction even if just a coincidence.
Now try The Tale of Jenny & Screech (Violet's Tale) - all 3 (it is a trilogy) - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TYAnqQ--KX0.html Ren is a creative genius and although the story is harrowing, it is a masterpiece! ☮️❤️Sea Point, Cape Town
Very genuine and honest reaction. I very much appreciated your reaction to Hi Ren. I hope you both react to more REN’s music. Ren is a musical genius in multiple aspects. Love the Father Daughter team, Cheers.
I could write for days about this video, the impact that it's had on the world and the amazing young man who performed it flawlessly and with the dramatic flair of a seasoned actor. But, I will try to make it brief. He started busking. Was a member of an indie group called Trick The Fox and a rock and cover band called The Big Push. He was signed by Sony and headed for HUGE things. At 17, he was bitten by a tick and contracted Lyme disease. Sony dropped him when he got sick. Doctors misdiagnosed him with chronic fatigue syndrome, depression and bipolar. This went on for like 7 or so years. There is a vlog from 2015, when he was at his worst. In so much pain that he was bedridden for 23 hours a day. The vlog is definitely heart wrenching. Ironically a doctor from the US saw the video and contacted him about possible stem cell transplant procedure. He flew to LA but was too weak to have it done. There was a family that had a child with Lyme's and they put him up, until he was strong enough. That being done. He was much better. But, not well. He is currently in Canada receiving treatment for the damage that the untreated disease has done to his body, including his brain. This is being paid for by a GoFundMe account he set up. By donations from his ever increasing fan base. He posts on Instagram about his progress through the medical process. So, now about his music. There is a MASSIVE amount of it out there. Between the two bands, his collabs with other amazing artists and his solo work. He is a musical genius who combined a little bit of everything that has influenced him all into a thing if beauty. He had so much inside him that he needed to get out. Since he thought he was going to die before 30. (He just turned 33 yesterday) That drove him to put out as much as humanly possible. ALOT. There are many directions you could go from here. I would recommend his trilogy of tales. Jenny's, Screech's and Violet's Tale. It is SUPER important that you do them in order. You can find them all in one video, called The Tale of Jenny and Screech full. It's truly a masterpiece in story telling. Here the standard warning. His subject matter is well...a bit rough. I use 5 words to describe it. Beautiful, but WAY not pretty. Ok, I have taken up enough of your time. Have a wonderful day. Take care and be safe until I see you again.
It's about that inner battle with yourself when you want todo something but you are not sure if you can or should because of that self doubt and just the negative thoughts that you have to fight to even get to doing what you wanted
Ren's a master of many skills. Sick Boy naturally follows on from this but Jenny and Screech (full) shows Ren as "Bardcore" and Chalk Outlines is a heartbreaker. I enjoyed watching you discover the unique magnificence of Ren. I like to stay to see you find more of his authenticity. Guidelines for experiencing Ren: Be prepared to be surprised and the last video we see is always the best until he shares the next. Oh! Don't forget to react to The Big Push, Ren's street band from his hometown, Brighton. They do some great songs of their own but their covers of Bob Marley and Black Sabbath stand out. I'm a 68 year old Floyd fan who is listening to almost everything Ren and his friends share as well as many reactions. Ren is so inspiring in his pain and in his joy.
Yes Ren is a musical genius and a lyrical genius and a master story teller! A Bard ! He has an extensive amount of videos of many different styles! He also plays not only the Acoustic guitar. He also plays electric guitar, bass guitar, piano, drums and he writes, directs, mixes all of his songs, stories, performances etc
Love the Pink Floyd shirt man, I too was born in February, the 12th to be specific. My Dad was a massive Pink Floyd fan and I grew up listening to their music and still do, now I'm raising my son on Pink Floyd as well. It's good to see how many people enjoy Pink Floyd, it always made my Dad happy to see people finding common interests in Pink Floyd. Unfortunately my Dad passed away in 2019 so the two of you need to remember to appreciate everyday that you have with each other.
Totaly brill! I'm really chuffed to accidentaly find you two reviewing this & its really refreshing to see daughter & dad so close they can share their experiences together & with us viewers 😃. I'm following you two peeps now on the strength of this as its a joy to see 2 generations sharing together & exploring new things together. Thank you 🤗
Thank you for viewing hi ren! Welcome to the family! I think you will be surprised at how varied the videos are when you do a deep dive. Will be watching to see how that comes out! Have a fantastic day!🖖🏻🫶🏼🌺
Welcome to the Ren rabbit hole. Ren defies genre and has a huge and fantastic catalogue of music to delve into, both as a solo artist, with his band The Big Push and in collaboration with a number of fantastic artists such as Sam Tompkins, Chinchilla and Eden Nash. Hope you take the time to enjoy the diversity, even if you do not get the chance to react. It is well worthwhile, he is an incredible multi-instrumental musician, lyricist, singer and rapper and he has the ability to draw you in grab your emotions and take you on a journey.
Just you wait. Ren is amazing. Pick any song and it's a gem, and different from the last. He's able to do almost every genre at an incredibly high skill. Only thing I haven't heard him do is heavy metal, but I'm waiting.
Welcome to REN’s world…he is brilliant and a musician and lyricist, singer song writer. He has enormous talent and versatility. He plays many instruments and crosses all genres. Checkout his catalog, it is extensive. He does duos with many talented artist such as Chinchilla (Calk Outlines, How to Be Me) He raps in many of his songs but it is a unique style all his (he is a trendsetter not a follower) but he also does covers, mainly with his former band, the Big Push songs such as War pigs and I shot the sheriff/road to Zion/Hip Hop. He started as a busker and many videos are of him and his band or other artist live on the streets of Brighton. He was signed by Sony but was dropped when he got sick. He was misdiagnosed for 8 yr as being bipolar and was on psych meds. He was rightfully depressed because of this…eventually he was diagnosed with Lymes disease and with treatment he got better. I could go on but this is already way to long. Welcome to REN’s world…the rabbit hole is very deep but well worth the time…he never disappoints!!! ✌🏼🫶🏼✌🏼
Ren became seriously ill in 2010. He was misdiagnosed for the next 6 or 7 years, and the medication he received just made him worse, often leaving him bedridden for up to 23 hours a day. Eventually, in 2016, he was correctly diagnosed with Lyme Disease and he had stem cell transplants which improved his health. However the years of incorrect treatment have left him with a badly damaged immune system, and some brain damage. He is currently receiving specialist treatment in Canada where he is likely to be for at least 6 months. He is an incredibly talented artist. Please check out Sick Boi, Diazepam, Chalk Outlines & How To Be Me (the latter two tracks both live and with Chinchilla). There are many many more tracks for you to explore
There's alot of subtle nuances in this video. You have to watch it multiple times to truly understand and appreciate all the thought that went into it. For instance, in the beginning when he does his woo-hoo thing the lights are not flashing and he is using his softer voice. In the end when he does it again the lights are flashing signifying the darkness taking over but his voice is still soft (good). Showing he is in harmony with himself.
Great reaction! I am also huge PInk Floyd fan being 65 yrs old. My favorite reactions before Ren came along to were to the Pulse concert performances. Then came Ren and I'm addicted to his since its all new. He reminds me of Floyd because he is so deep and makes you really go below the surface to a much deeper place, similar to Comfortably Numb. Like Floyd his music is artistry and has depth. Welcome to his rabbit hole, there is so much to discover........ Recommendations: His Trilogy and Who Shot The sheriff.
Awesome Reaction to Hi Ren by Ren! Unbelievable performance 🎭 for me he could headline Broadway! The part a lot of people miss is this was Live! When Ren unplugged his guitar, and started speaking! I was like Wow… I would suggest I shot the Sheriff by the big push. Ren is the lead singer of the band and they’re busking. Also Ren is currently in Calgary 🇨🇦 my Home town getting treatment! ✌️🇨🇦
He did go to music school (I wonder how much he taught them😁). He was signed by Sony years ago but they dropped him when he got sick. It was Lyme Disease but was misdiagnosed for years. He has spent years busking in Brighton.
He is still underging treatment, he has liym disease and was misdiagnosed for years. The drugs he was given while misdiagnosed really messed him up. He is brilliant and a lot of people are prayijng for him.
I'm sure you will be told many times but Ren was signed by Sony at a young Age then got ill and was dropped by Sony, he was misdiagnosed many times and medicated for Mental Health problems, spending up too 23hrs a day in bed for long periods because of the pain he was in always knowing there was something wrong but constantly being told it was all in his head, this went on for several years before he was eventually diagnosed with Lyme disease, but years of being given the wrong drugs and the damage Lyme disease did to his body has left him with on going problems, which he has now been getting specialist treatment for in Canada and will probably be there for many Months. He has been making Music and Releasing it independently for all the years he's been ill and you will find some amazing Music if you go down the Ren Rabbit Hole.
Yeah just commenting to reinforce how The Tale of Jenny & Screetch from him is just as impressive. You'll love it! Theatrical tragedy with very introspective point of view and story telling.. beautiful
You have to do "Jenny & Screech" by Ren 3 acts it's a play in 3 parts (watch in order: Act 1) Jenny, Act 2) Screech, Act 3) Violet. IN THAT ORDER) it's a tale told by a bard about the streets of London. Some place called "Paddington" you'll know what that means more than me. Anyway the point is the guitar does the effects forward rewind mediaeval bard flamenco tapping it's brilliant as you guys say bloody brilliant. Blessings from Puerto Rico.
Congratulations you have now entered the Ren zone. An artist that writes, plays, produces his music as an independent artist. He has an amazing back catalog. If you have the fortitude the FULL Jenny/Screech/Violet tale is soul disturbing but fantastic. Needs to be done in one go. Language is a bit robust but it is needed for the story👍
Found this song today and oh man.. This hit like a truck and makes me really emotional to listen... This song goes above genres and is pure art. Lovely reaction dashy and dad
Based on the Pink Floyd t-shirt, I think "Dad" will really enjoy and appreciate Ren's covers of classic rock songs with his band The Big Push, I would especially recommend his live busking videos "I Shot the Sheriff", "War Pigs", and "Paint it Black".They also do the Stone's "Jumpin Jack Flash" and "Sympathy for the Devil" and The Who's "My Generation".
Agreed with all the other comments for next songs by Ren. I’d add “I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/HipHop” (all three in one) by his band The Big Push.
Ren is Welsh - he comes from Bangor, Wales, and was raised on Anglesey, Wales, but he lives in Brighton, England. He was treated for mental health issues and psychosis for 8 years before being finally correctly diagnosed with Lyme disease - by which time the damage had been done. He is currently in Canada where is receiving treatment to try and repair as much of the damage as they can. The video was also recorded LIVE and in ONE take - though it took 4 attempts before he was happy with it.
Samuel Perry-Falvey filmed this. They found the wheelchair filming Ren's on his Hunger video. This cost £1000 to make. 4 live takes and the fourth is this with close-ups added towards the end.
Ren's health issues are sadly fascinating and very devastating, but he is making good progress, thank God! I liked to poetry comments and I very much agree. I'm new to your channel, and have enjoyed watching and listening to your reactions! Bravo! 🤠
Now you’ve got to react to his other sides. He is so talented! The Tale of Jenny and Screech trilogy is just amazing. I will subscribe to see your reactions to this genius at work. He is a modern-day Shakespeare for sure. ❤
Ren is a phenomena. He released the video back in Dec. '22. In the three some months since release it has over nine million views. I'm about a half-dozen of those views. But I've watched it dozens of times with first reactors like yourselves. Story is it took them four takes. Other than a couple of close-up edits this is a straight through live performance, not a highly edited music video. He's playing a classical nylon string guitar, no effects. But he plays it hard, right at the edge how one should play nylon strings, using that extra buzz and slap as his effects. The voice is recorded with the natural reverb of the space they are in. When you do "Chalk Outlines", with Ren and Chinchilla (which you should do next) it is the same thing. They are in a hallway and that is the natural reverb to a live performance. This is a work of art. Poetry, music, setting, message, video, all melding into an astonishing achievement. One the one hand funny as hell, on the other deadly serious. On both hands astute, witty, deep...phenomenal. Welcome on board. Blessings.
Great reaction guys, ✊🏽 this is just the entrance to the Ren rabbit hole.... Ren is only this true to himself because he hasn't got a record deal taming him.... ✊🏽
Ren is a rabbit hole I would enjoy watching you 2 go down, How to be me would be a good next choice but anything you find will be good, and each song is very different.
Yes Jenny & Screech is a must also chalk outlines with Chinchilla or to see a crowd react to him listen to I shot the sheriff by the big push, his busking band
I’m starting these very late but il post my usual info for anyone who wants to learn more. 🖤 Dad your words were perfect! It is indeed poetry, art, perfection 🖤 🔥🔥🔥 .Welcome to the Renaissance! Ren is my favourite artist of all time. I say artist because he is a multifaceted diamond! From singing (all styles) to rapping (bars/flows/schemes for days), Bardcore (story telling) beatbox, makes his own beats, scatting and a multi instrumentalist (guitars, bass, drums, melodica and more). On top of that he is the most beautiful human being inside and out who has been through and continues to go through absolute hell. Ren is 33 from Anglesey, Wales originally but spent most his life in Brighton, England. He has been very ill for years, at one point being completely bed ridden. He was misdiagnosed for years, being told he was bipolar, had M.E and more and was prescribed medications that made him worse and ended up in psychosis. It turns out Ren had Lyme disease which has caused havoc on his body. He’s been living in Calgary, Canada all year receiving intense medical treatment for his brain damage and mast cell activation disorder amongst other things that were caused by the Lyme disease. He started off making beats at 12 and selling CDs then moved on to busking. He was part of a band called Trick The Fox and was signed to Sony but they didn’t renew the contract after his health deteriorated. He then started The Big Push. They went on hiatus the end of last year after 5 years partly due to his move to Canada and also because the other members are also soloists and were moving around too. I have a list of songs to check out of all styles. Obviously this is no where near everything but gives you places to start. 🖤 Ren songs in best order to watch them (although there isn’t a specific order technically, this is a good way to go) 📚Serious/storytelling📚 Hi Ren The Tale of Jenny and Screech (full) SickBoi Chalk outlines live How to be me live Suic*de For Joe Money Game 1, 2, 3 🎤Showing off his rap etc talent🎤 Losing it The hunger Power Illest of our time Genesis Genesis acoustic Murderer Murderer acoustic Animal flow Animal flow acoustic what you want (beastie boys homage) 🎸The big push 🎸 I shot the sheriff/ road to Zion/ hip hop Wade in the water/ Nina Simone/ trouble so hard Englishman in New York live Swan song Watch out (red suspenders) Sweet little lady Sweet little lady live Why my woman? You can't trust those subtitles...they are not accurate. I just discovered a song of his that he did with his band The Big Push (they have done so many amazing videos), but this one has not had the coverage that it deserves. It is a beautiful video with a beautiful song and is SO CREATIVE! The Big Push - Precious.
Ren is from Dwyran on the Isle of Anglesey. He is the new Bard or should be, he is a genius. He contracted Lyme disease and was misdiagnosed and so his struggle started for many years, and is ongoing. Have a look at him performing with "The Big Push". I shot the Sheriff is a good starting point, enjoy. Well done the two of you.
I enjoy seeing youtubers getting their minds blown with musical art. I have watched and listened to a couple hundred HI REN reactions and look for new youtubers, to me,and you got a new subscriber in me. Keep doing what ya doin. KEEP MOVING FORWARD. 🤜🤛 SHARING IS CARING 1 more subscriber for your channel towards 100k😁 Ren's music is the word that is like the song needed for peace in BILL AND TEDS movie, from WYLD STALLIONS.
10:11 Yes, it's a "one-man show" theater piece is a thing. It's very much like that the way its staged in one room with one man in a chair. And because it tells a whole story and basically delivers one man's manifesto/ mission statement, a summary of his major life lesson, in just 9 minutes.
Check out sick boi as it goes together with hi Ren. That was a great reaction so definitely check out more and you will see much more of his skills as a singer, rapper, and musician! He also had a new release yesterday for his birthday called Illest of our time which is also epic!!! The guy is a genius!!
Ren is in Canada undergoing medical treatment for damage done by misdiagnosis of Lyme disease. His talent is endless, crosses every genre, with a great back catalog. Watch the trilogy...full version of Jenny, Screech, Violet in that order to have your minds completely blown :)
We have the potential for the divine and for sin within us freewill gives us the power to choose. The Devil is "The Accuser" not just before God, for as long as you have consciousness, day & night it accuses your light.
You should really check out his busking videos with himself and Sam Tompkins as well as with his previous band The Big Push, absolutely phenomenal talent! He is really a chameleon with musical genres and styles, nothing he can’t do and do extremely well
@@DashyAndDadReacts your first journey into The Big Push should be their medley of “I Shot The Sheriff/Road To Zion/Hip-Hop”, then his video with Sam of “Earned It/Man’s World/Falling… it will surely blow your minds.
Hi. I have watched a lot of your videos before but have never commented (I don't think). However, I just wanted to comment on Dad's ability to be quiet and look interested. It was refreshing. It looked like there was some connection to the performance; like Ren's words had some meaning for Dad. Gone were the witticisms, and the busy interjections to push the video forward. I saw genuine engagement.
I'm a 62year old British guy ,until a month ago I'd never heard of Ren ,the big push, Sam Tompkins, Chinchilla. The real question is why have I not heard of him and all the Artists I've mentioned. In Britain its only a small Country, Apparently they are the Brighton music scene. 🎶.
OH WoW i am already LUVIN this your FIRST!!! i have not watched it all yet i had to pause cuz i am sittin here ya know tryin to read what your shirt says i see it i get it i freakin **Luvit** & i am thinkin this dude is sooo freakin cool LUV that shirt especially the **Pink Floyd** part so ha when a couple seconds after i figured out what the shirt said then you said "Keep an open mind" i was like but your mind IS already opened cuz ya listened to **Pink Floyd** heh **RockON!!!**
