The Ren journey is wild. I’ve just started down the journey myself. I was watching his Twitch after the song dropped and Ren was almost in tears when he saw so many reaction videos pop up so quickly. I agree with you, that boy can sing for real. Yep, he’s been sick with Lyme disease and auto immune issues. He’s actually getting medical treatment in Canada, not far from Jess. Thank you for acknowledging that "ill" is used in the UK frequently to mean unwell. Other US reactors haven't made that connection and clearly ren's music is heavily influenced by his sickness. Same as his song sick boi. When he uses "ill" and "sick" he isn't just bigging himself up. He's referencing his disease and poor health

When he mentions mercury, it's not just a Freddy Mercury reference. It has multiple meanings/references. Right before he says "I'm heavy." Mercury is a "heavy" metal. Also it is what is in thermometers... the device you use to check your temperature when you're "ill." Freddy was arguably one of the greatest... or "illest" of his craft. Both are/were literally ill as well. You could even add another meaning, not sure if intentional.... but mercury is toxic.... and affects the brain.

This was so awesome to watch because you are not even ready for what he can do. Ren is a poet, plan and simple. He can do anything with words and music. He uses rap a lot as the medium, but sometimes singing, but sometimes spoken word. He composes. He makes beats. He plays guitar, bass, drums, cello,piano. He acts. Hes just insane.

Story is Ren went almost a decade with un-diagnosed Lyme's disease. By the time it was discovered, he was full into a complete cascade of auto-immunological side effects and a heaping does of PTSD that messed up his mind. Man's been digging himself out of a deeeeep hole and it's gonna be scary when he gets his health back 100% and he can focus on his music with no distractions. Consider, this is the output of a guy with a ton of health distractions.. and it's already pure fire.

I think I found the root of "The Illest" : "Want to sink into the pupil* of my eye Travel to the corner of my cornea** and mind Look for all the answers*** that I never seem to find Till then, I guess I’m still the illest** of our time" think about it "ill be the illest (till i find) the answer I'm looking for...?" like he doesn't want to be the illest if he was the greatest he would never want to stop being the greatest but he isn't claiming to be the greatest just the "illest" till he finds the answer? The answer*** he is looking for is a cure to Lyme Disease until he finds it he is the illest** of our time but he'd rather not be, he'd rather cure Lyme Disease. None of his treatments make sense there's no plan the'yre just trying stuff on him, even now in Canada there's no long term plan & goal (he said it in a video) it's all pretty much experimental. He has to study what he has seen done to him he is the pupil* (student) of his eyes travel through the light in the darkness he's been through.
