I got chills and tears the moment you explained “the voice you hear when you loosen the noose on the rope”. That line saved my life and not many reactors catch things like that. This is one of the most powerful messages to mental health ever written.

You weren't far off when you asked if this was a song about torture. It's about the mental anguish Ren has been dealing with for years. He has Lyme disease, but was misdiagnosed for nearly a decade and just fed a bunch of drugs for mental illness. The man is a true artist, very talented, and extremely brave. Most reactors notice the small details according to their own life experience. Psychologists analyse to mental health issues, rappers and musicians connect with his musicality, filmmakers talk about cameras and lighting. All of them struggle to focus on details beyond the words and their special interest. You went deep. That was excellent. I know Ren appreciates that. There are live streams from him where he mentions how much he loves reactors and how artists and reactors can help each other. He talks a lot about lifting each other up. But he was super excited watching Knox Hill dissect Illest of Our Time. Anyway, based on how you felt about this and how you responded to it, there's an amazing rabbit hole to go down. Ren really is a once in a generation, maybe even a lifetime talent. Here's a breakdown of the rabbit hole to get you started: Chalk Outlines- look for the live one he did with Chinchilla (sidebar- she is incredible and has 2 joints worth checking out: Little Girl Gone and Fingers (live version of fingers will blow your mind)). Thank you for this reactions. You caught more than most others. Especially the part about the rope. I am 74 years old. My first time of hearing Ren was this one. By the end I crying like a baby. My family, myself, my children have been through hell, each with their own demons. Struggles in life with our own doubts, dreams and disappointments, and then the b.s. from others interjecting their ideas about this and that. My son is bi-polar, my daughter suffers from agoraphobia and anxiety attacks. My issue is talking to myself and hating myself, fighting my demons and at the same time trying to save everyone else. Life is sometimes a real bitch. I will sometimes shed a tear when hearing this, but I've stopped the sobbing. Ren is amazing at having us see ourselves and recognizing the trials we go through. Whether we are physically ill or just an ordinary human that is in some emotional pain. I am tired of telling my subconscious to shut the hell up! Yet the battle continues and I see it for what it is, actually helping me with decisions and life directions. Where do we go from here? Where ever it leads us, don't force it, accepting whatever or fighting it if you can.

I love how you noticed the lamps and their locations, also the shadows of the "two of them" although it's just one body. The flickering lamps at the end is the two of them struggling for domination, but they are actually equal. Equal in all of us.

I feel like most of us with mental health issues get it right away, being that it’s his own inner voice telling him he’s not good enough no matter how many pills he takes, the darkness will always be there. Wow, that was really a great reaction and breakdown of this song and video. Many will point out that this was a single take video with different camera ankles and this is what I love about many of Ren's videos that he did together with director of photography Samuel Perry-Falvey! Fantastic breakdown. Loved the progression of emotion and realization as you went through each area of lyrics and his performance. Many reactors look at this from a narrow perspective, Ren battling psychological issues instead of that macro message, the battle we all go through. The idea that you can’t really eliminate that darkness, but you can (sort of) accept who you are, that fighting it means you stumble. Awesome job bro.

That's the first time I've heard a reaction video mention the positioning of the lamps and the connection to the dark and light side. I never picked up on that. Very cool analysis. I've watched 20 reactions, and every time I'm looking for how people react to "loosen the noose on the rope." Most people just physically flinch. You're the first I felt reacted the way I did. Also, I've watched it a hundred times, but the size of the lamps and the (incorrect, artificial) way the shadows play on the floor, I never noticed. Great job

The flickering lights in the reprise of the first vocal represents the integration of his shadow personality trait with his light side. He has the serenity to accept the dance and has to the courage to alter his steps to advance in his dance of life. Here is some additional information on Ren's story that I gathered from old newspaper interviews, articles, and Ren's livestreams and posts where he discussed his condition. Ren Erin Gill is a British musician/independent artist; born in Wales on March 29, 1990; he eventually moved to Brighton. Ren pursued a career in music from an early age. In 2009, while studying music performance at Bath Spa University, Ren began to experience health issues and was struggling to attend his lectures. In 2010, he was signed by Sony Records and was working on an album when his health deteriorated to the point where he was unable to continue and subsequently dropped by Sony. Ren's illness often kept him in bed for up to 23 hours daily. Ren was initially misdiagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, and chronic fatigue syndrome, which led him to experience psychosis and develop PTSD. It would take seven years before a doctor in Belgium finally correctly diagnosed Ren with autoimmunity, Lyme disease, and resulting damage to the brain, organs, joints, and PTSD. Ren eventually underwent stem cell therapy in the United States, which improved his health, but it has not been a cure. Ren is currently in Calgary, Canada for more treatments, including surgeries, and will have to be there for at least six months (Summer of 2023) undergoing IV and other interventions five days a week. Ren recently underwent wisdom tooth removal and cavitation surgery. In addition, his Canadian doctor discovered that Ren also developed a condition called Mast Cell Activation Disorder (MCAD), which has affected the myelin sheath in his brain, his thyroid, adrenals as well as his bones/joints. Now, Ren is receiving additional treatments for this previously undiagnosed condition. Let's keep supporting Ren as he undergoes his treatments. My favorite part of the two lamps is the smaller one shines brighter. Yes the voice may be smaller but it's the one you should follow.

As a recovering alcoholic, who sat on the floor with a bottle of pain killers, fighting off the demons telling me do it coward, your nothing, your worthless, I related to the noose on the rope bar. But a tiny voice, that got louder, saying, I am aware of you, pulled me back. I can't stop crying. What an amazing HUMAN BEING. Thank you Snake, thank you. The struggle is real, but the dance is softer now, as of Oct 12th 1988. WOW, just Wow. Love from Vancouver Island in Canada.

I've been watching quite a few reactions videos to this. Your the first that earned a sub. Your the first one to notice the shadow and the subtle theme between the bright over head light casting a strong shadow, perfectly aligning with the ending monologue. I never noticed it until you pointed it out.

Another possible hidden metaphore with the lamps is political -Its a recurring theme throughout Ren's music. The light side is on his 'Left' and the dark side is on the 'Right'. You'll see it 'The Hunger' a great rap track, as well as Money Game Part 1 and Part 2 amongst many others. There are hidden easter eggs throughout Ren's music. ❤

I'm actually using this song as a means to try and help with my own struggles and I seek a lot of comfort from this song already.
