Callum was a very close friend of Ren's. He had just graduated from University (in Edinburgh, Scotland). He went fishing on a beach in Anglesey with 3 friends (including his gf at the time). It was a stormy day and he decided to take a swim but soon got into difficulties because of the conditions. His friend Lewis jumped in to save him but sadly they both drowned. This happened less than 8 months after Joe had died and Ren really struggled to process this loss. He had wanted to write a song for Callum for years but could never find the words. One day he was playing the piano and this tune appeared and it said exactly what he wanted it to say. Without words
His last few have been EDM acoustic, old skool rap, motown-ish, and a piano instrumental. Ren DGAF about what people think he should of should not do, and neither should you. ❤ This is a beautiful tribute to someone he loved. I wonder if Callum was a Sublime fan, as it's a similar logo on the Spotify release for this as on his jumper. Interesting that you compared it to the "waves" of life. Callum drowned on a turbulent day. I think it's very intentional that we get swept along by this piece and caught up in the chaotic feel of the middle part.
