Sorry but you have completely gotten this wrong, it was ME/CFS and missing millions awareness month, this is two very different things and confusing the two has caused endlessly amounts of grief for people with ME/CFS for decades. Try watching sickboi again, because he covers some of this there, about being medicated and misdiagnosed. I am sure he would advocate for mental health as well, but people need to understand the difference between the two things since there has been much confusion in the past. I hope Dr Syl understands the difference as well and how complicated it can all be, because all too often people in his own profession as well can perceive and diagnose certain things incorrectly, because of their educational biases.

@@petecabrina Maybe that's a distinction where you are. Where I live in Canada it is literally "May is Mental Health Awareness Month". The posters, ad campaigns, handouts in Dr. offices etc. all say the same. It may have been appropriated from a ME /CFS campaign for Millions Missing originally but that's what it is now.

@@sharis9095 yes as Fiona said Ren has clearly stated himself it was for ME/CFS and mission millions and not mental health awareness month, maybe it also corresponds with mental health awareness week? And he intended that? There appears to be a week and a month, which is confusing as well. Anyway whatever, but it is still important to understand the differences between the two.

Really enjoyed your reaction to this amazing song from Ren. I have suspected fibromyalgia, ME/CFS, MCAS and POTS and it has been extremely difficult to find a doctor to help diagnose any of them. I keep getting told that all my symptoms are due to anxiety and depression. In reality, my anxiety and depression get worse when my pain and symptoms flare up. I really appreciate Ren for helping to raise awareness of these conditions and giving us the strength and hope to keep fighting for help 💜💜

As someone who self-harmed for a number of years, I feel like it served as a way in which I could be 'in control' of my physical and emotional pain rather than having them control me. Sort of feel that's what Ren was referring to with the "kiss of cold steel" lyric...it was a way for him to exert some agency over his pain.

Did you go watch the Ren Chapters, leading to the release of this video? They are very personal to Ren and he chose to document them so folks could really understand. They explain in detail what treatments he tried and their effects on him both physically and mentally. Chapter 6 is particularly profound. He has them listed on his channel.

There is still no treatment for ME/CFS other than pacing. What makes it worse is the fact that doctors don't take it seriously because they can't detect it in the blood or otherwise. In the end they always say you have psychological problems.

I guess whether you feel diseases have been ignored depends on your perspective. I've known about Lyme disease for a few decades -- but I live in the northeast of the U.S. and that's kind of Lyme Ground Zero. Lyme often goes undercover and hides with weird symptoms you may not find in the DSM. I believe that people could overlook Lyme or not even look for it if the patient was a kid from England who wasn't someone who was especially outdoors-oriented. I believe it because it's what happened to Ren.

With great power comes great responsibility, and Ren is truly a hero! He is using his growing powers and platform for so much more than simply creating brilliant music. Ren has said that he always had this feeling that he was meant to change the world for the better. So much that he defiantly yelled a challenge to evil into an empty room. And then he got sick… Ren has now shared the full story of his health journey in 8 video chapters leading up to the release of this song and what a journey it has been. If anyone hasn’t already watched them, I highly recommend you do. With all the chapters he is showing immense strength in sharing his story that is so hard to tell, being vulnerable and telling it because he hopes it will help others and raise awareness. And here he is with another rendition of that story, now told through music with a fire beat and delivering a message of hope. But yes, it packs a punch. While being a banger. Ren is great at creating m contrasts and evoking contradictory emotions. You’ll get more of that in the chapters if you check them out - whether as reactions or on your own time. Equal amounts of heartbreaking vulnerability and cheeky humour.

They aren't receiving as much financial support for research as other less impactful things being researched. I believe this is what he means when he talks about them being ignored. Lack of funds leads to lack of treatment options. Also, not all Doctors take the issues seriously. He faced that and so did my daughter. She has been dealing with Lyme disease since she was 8, She was born in December of 1989. She didn't get anyone to even diagnose her until she insisted on testing in 2022. She had 5 different strains and like Ren is still dealing with autoimmune issues etc. We live in the US. I do appreciate your approach to reacting to video and subscribed

Great reaction as always. I think the whole bad feeling between Docs and patients with Autoimmune conditions, in a nutshell, is that because Doctors dont have effective treatments, they dont really ever say that to a patient, possibly worried that it will plunge the patient into despair, so they let that patient keep searching for a Doctor that does have treatments. Of course once the patient realises there are no effective treatments, and that Doctors have effectively let them run around seeking answers that cannot be found, they then have to go back to those very Doctors they feel they can't trust now, and ask for what they can give. Mostly patients need pain relief, if the patient cant be cured, they at least want the pain to go away,.. of course again, they are told 'No' by Doctors. Refused the one thing they may have to make life easier for the patient. They may be offered mild painkillers, or things like Amytriptyline or the old Naproxen, to try and get the pain/sleep cycle under control, but its temporary at best, and now the Doctor is looking at a Patient who seems like a drug seeker, so the distrust now goes both ways. Its a vicious cycle that can go on for years, until the Patient quietly drops out of the Doctors systems. I expect you've found that a lot of Autoimmune patients seem to disappear,..thats because they know there is no help for their pain at their Doctors surgery. The ones Ren call the Missing. They cope by abusing over the counter pain meds, or weed, or harder things somethings. Sort out the pain first, as Doctors, and Patients will stick with you, whilst ongoing research finds a way. We know Doctors don't have the answers yet, but at least, for the love of all thats merciful, treat our pain,..and not with antidepressants or CBT, or pain management. Hit the pain hard chemically first, then we could work on other treatments. If Doctors feel that people being addicted to pain meds is an unacceptable risk, ..just ask someone in constant, chronic pain, along with the myriad other symptoms they suffer if they would take the risk of having to have pain meds for the very long term. I can garuntee that a LOT of them would say yes. We have incurable, autoimmune diseases,..we effed anyway... given the choice of being effed and in pain, or being effed and without pain, we're going to choose the 'not in pain' option. Its Risk/Benefit. Against the agonising pain that strips you of your quality of life, to the point where you're barely living what makes a life,.. most would take the painkillers gladly, Doc.

Even knowing what you have helps so much. Invisible diseases tax so much, but are quite often still brushed off as laziness. When I got cancer, I was relieved that it was something everyone knows. Having lived with MS, ADHD and depression, my cancer was a ride in the park. I didn't have to beg for help. I didn't have to constantly explain myself.

You can think everyone deserves to be without suffering while still acknowledging that suffering is inevitable, in my opinion. I just take it to mean we should strive to reduce suffering as much as possible. I guess you could argue on the definition of 'deserves' but that might get a bit too philosophical 🙃 Unrelated, but worth watching Ren's 8 chapters on his 'RenMakesStuff' channel (not for a reaction) if you haven't already, they go a bit more in depth on everything he talks about in this song.

Thank you for this reaction. I enjoy hearing your insights and reflections. I think Ren's reference to lack of attention to chronic illnesses such as Lyme has to do with the limited amount of funding and research that goes into them. Since long Covid arrived, it does seem more research is focused in these areas. Re chronic illnesses, so many commenters say they feel dismissed and poorly served by their medical system.

I think suffering is inevitable and pain is a part of life cause we live in a world full of polarity and all we can do is to try to remain balance and homeostasis. When it comes to hard experiences I believe every one of us should have the opportunity and resources needed to ease the pain and a chance for happiness. And I think we should minimalise unnecessary pain and suffering that could be easily preventable by spreading awareness and building a kind and strong society that is willing to discuss things with each other with peace and understanding

I agree with everything you said. I just want to add that not all care givers understand but don’t know how to treat… in my experiences with Fibro and my 17 yo son with PANS… we struggled to find doctors to even “believe” in these diagnoses. The ones who do have an overloaded waitlist. Fibro is better now, but PANS/PANDAS not even close? I live in the Toronto area… SickKids is a world renowned children’s hospital and they are only just starting to come around. But I do know that other countries are more on the ball. I lost 95% of my vision in September. I have Charles Bonnet Syndrome. Its a real treat. 😂 It was a sudden loss of vision. I kept telling people that it wasn't what i couldn't see freaking me out. It's what i WAS seeing that was. I was on a video call before my eyes gave up. I am absolutely positive he thought i was on drugs and seeing things. Because i kept seeing darting shadows in the ceiling corners of the room. Also flashing lights. Little did i know, it was the nerves in my eyes dying. Pressure gets so high that blood flow is cut off to the optic nerve endings in your eyes. If the pressure is not reduced quickly, the nerve dies. Charles Bonnet Syndrome isn't commonly known. I live in Canada. My optometrist didn't know it. It was a surgeon who knew. Bonus points for knowing this exists. Too often it's misdiagnosed for a long time.

Great reaction. I have fibromyalgia, and am lucky enough to have a doctor that listens to me. So, while pain management leaves something to be desired due to fear of addiction, I've pinpointed ways to minimize the number of bad flareups, such as sleep aids. Sleep dysregulation is one of the biggest causes of flareups for me, so my doctor has worked with me to help that as much as possible. I'm still in pain every day, and still get flareups (like the one this week, most likely caused by the bizarre weather), but it definitely helps.

They are absolutely ignored, to have treatments available you first need research. The amount of research funding for ME is and always has been abysmally low. Much much lower (not even comparible) than less disabling and less prevalent illnesses. That is ignoring the patient population in and of itself, the psychologizing of these diseases has also stolen away from proper research and treatment. There is a long history there. It’s not necessarily that doctors and therapists actually ignore patients, but with that said I think it’s safe to say that every patient with a condition like this has been told by a medical professional at some point that their illness isn’t real. I’ve had countless professionals say this to me in some way or another, doctors snickering and telling me to get on with my life and go do some yoga, therapists telling me I must have childhood trauma or be anxious even though I insist I had a great childhood and have never been the anxious sort… they insist my symptoms are partly psychosomatic in the first session without really knowing anything about me, just because I mention my diagnosis. It goes on and on and patient forums are just filled with these stories because they are causing trauma. The understanding of these illnesses is lacking and this is the result, it’s not saying therapists are to blame but the understanding needs to change and the condescending attitude toward these patients by all people in our society (family, friends, doctors, therapists, politicians, etc) needs to change so that patients finally have their reality seen and heard and understood.

I believe Ren was referring to the funding side of things ,on another video he pointed ouf that there is less funding for finding a cure for those illnesses, than for finding a cure for erection dysfunction or male pattern baldness and he encouraged everyone to give if they could . This was also released on M.E. day and was about raising awareness . I dont think Ren in any way sees the medical profession as the enemy. After all in that song you just listened go he called a doctor an angel.

You may not ignore these things, but in Ren's case his was. Misdiagnosis led him down a path which was unnecessary given the hindsight of a correct diagnosis. Exactly, severely ill patients that have what Ren had are literally in solitary confinement for years and decades on end until they can’t do it anymore. Many cannot have more than simple yes or no conversations, some can talk for little bits at a time but the brain’s not firing properly so it’s very hard to speak and think. Not being able to read. Not being able to focus enough to watch tv. Light hurting the eyes is very common. J tubes (feeding tubes) are common, the stomach stops functioning and we have no idea why. Neuropathy is common. Severe POTS not treatable is common. The more you try to stand up, walk, etc, the worse your symptoms become. The only way to feel even slightly better being to stare at a wall endlessly. Welcome to hell. Ren watched these people suffer (and experienced it himself) and like him I’ll die fighting for them, it’s inhumane to leave them and not research for answers.

when he says "ignored" he's speaking from his personal experience, I hope you're not so quick to dismiss when you qualify and from another angle, more money is spent on research for male pattern baldness than for M.E
