Fascinating. Thanks a ton. This is the first time I have been introduced to Renaissance art & craft other than paintings, sculpture, architecture. One reads about and studies pottery of ancient civilizations like Ancient Greece, Indus Valley Civilization, etc, and my mind unconsciously associated pottery with pre-middle ages world, and somehow never thought of pottery as representative of art and ethos of a period in hustory as late as the Rensissance. Our minds make such unconscious and arbitrary compartmentalisations! Thanks again for the vid.

Yes and presumably pottery (for instance) has its own history (across cultures) which extends all the way to the present day.

The title of this video piqued my interest right away and then the enigmatic first comment added to that... I was not disappointed, lol. Hearing how it was made did give me pause, but I absolutely would love to eat off of that platter, it's so beautifully detailed. And I'd love to know what was in Palissy's cabinet of curiosity, too.

erm .. now THESE are the magic moments of of shapeshifting/genre-switching .. in this case .. a fine exemplar of 'art analysis' blazing the future road to philosophers.

Thank you for your introduction, which has benefited me a lot. I'd really like to know if there's any way I can learn more about Palissy.

I know this is a stretch or a bit of an off topic question but what are the two art pieces being exhibited next to / close by the platter? You get a clear shot of both at 0:12

Hello Smarthistory! Could you please make a new video about the Hagia Sophia? The Turkish president Erdoğan decided to turn Hagia Sophia into a mosque again. Does this have any consequences for nun-muslim visitors and the Christian art inside the Hagia Sophia?

Why would you devote an entire segment on Palissy and illustrate it with a work by a follower? This makes no sense to me.
