Who could have done thumbs down to this??? People are strange indeed, and so often scared of great beauty or humanity..we have work to do, my friends. Keep spreading beauty until people rememebr who they truly are! Grazie ninetta209..

ONE OF MY MOST FAVOURITE TEBALDI RECORDS....HER VOICE SEEMS TO HAVE LIMITLESS SPLENDOR.........VOCE ARCANA INDEED .THIS AFTER NEARLY 30 YEARS OF HARD WORKING OPERATIC CAREER SHE STILL MANAGES TO SOUND THIS GOOD.......IT'S SUPERNATURAL.

I'm the opinion that wagner must be singed in german, but this is so beautiful. Tebaldi really had a wonder of voice! love it so much, is so sweat, round and perfect.

The quality of singing on this recording should be of no surprise. Tebaldi sang Wagner early on in here career as well. It's clear that this is an example of yet another great singer who could have excelled in this repertoire should she have decided to go in that direction. Nilsson did indeed speak highly of Tebaldi and for good reason.

THIS WAS IN HER TEBALDI FESTIVAL ALBUM RECORDED IN 1969.....AFTERWARDS....SHE WENT ON TO RECORD BALLO IN MASCERA WITH PAVAROTTI IN 1970 THEN THE CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL 1971. IN 1972 SHE RECORDED ITALIAN SONGS WITH BONYGE AT THE PIANO........AND ALBUM OF OPERATIC DUETS WITH CORELLI. IN 1973 SHE RECORDED ARIA ANTICHE WITH ORCHESTRA....HER LAST STUDIO RECORDING.

Yes Nilsson spoke highly of la Tebaldi always, their voices had much resemblance in several points. After Nilsson, Tebaldi recorded the most beautiful Liebestod and even without singing the role and in italian ! but the most beautiful

There's no doubt about the still golden voice of Tebaldi here. It's highly unlikely that she could have summoned the stamina to tackle the whole role, which wasn't suited to her anyway (though her power here makes a good what-might-have-been). This aria lays in the best part of her voice - no super top Bs or Cs or even B flats are written in to this aria. As a result, she sounds as though in her vocal prime, which she most certainly wasn't at this time. No matter. She sounds great here.
@stephengoldman553

We will never know about her stamina. What we do know is that her liebestod is beautifully sung and elegantly phrased. We know that!
@alleviation91
@alleviation91 3 года назад
She might have been able to do the role a handful of times, but not exactly make a career out of it. She did do both Minnie and Gioconda, and neither of those are exactly “slouch,” roles.

Excellent assessment. I think if she had tackled this aria in the early/mid-50s, in her vocal prime, well….I don’t know that she could have tackled 4+-hour performances. Wonderful late singing, but I would have loved to have heard her singing this earlier.
@ER1CwC
@ER1CwC 2 месяца назад
@@tothemargent7140 I think the aria would have always been doable for her. If Callas could do it, she could. Singing the entire role is of course a totally different matter. The difficulty would have been not pushing the middle voice in the less glamorous parts of the role that are ~parlando over a big orchestra.

@lascosasporsunombreclaroyr7860

Did Tebaldi not sing in German for a particular reason? Does anyone know?
@AlabamaJimTC
@AlabamaJimTC 5 лет назад
Yes -- she felt that she was not equal to performing her Wagner roles in German, saying that her diction in the German language left "much to be desired." I came across this on the Net several years ago, an extract from Lanfranco Rasponi's book "The Last Prima Donnas." If you search on the page for the words "Wagnerian" or "German," this will take you to the paragraph where she gives more details on the subject. Hope this helps. I found the whole extract a good read: www.renata-tebaldi.com/rasponi.htm

I read once that she said that singing in german or french was dangerous if you developed your voice in another language cause french is nasal and german gutural with time natural singing have problems with the vowels
