I can definitely say the new Scenic does not have bad looks. Actually all of the new Renaults have rather nice shapes, which often make them the centre of attention. From its side, the car looks like a smaller Espace.
I don't mind Renaults, I drove the Megan for several years. It was fairly dependable. However, to really make a difference, they need to improve the quality of plastic parts inside. It's all nice and dandy while looking, but when you start to actually use it, you realize it's all very flimsy and toy-like. Not sure how it feels in the top level trims, but most people don't buy those anyway. It doesn't make much sense buying a very expensive Renault... You just lose more money in depreciation and probably have even more issues with all the toys that break after some time.
