I recently bought a GT 110 model which has strong in-gear performance and a great exhaust note, both of which reminds me of the performance hatch I owned in the late 1980s. The Twingo is a fun car but also practical with an elevated driving position, plenty cabin space, five doors (unlike most of its competitors) and the ability to park in very small spaces. It also feels very safe thanks to the various electronic driving aids. This is a car that cuts across generations and is suitable for anyone who likes their transport to be compact but also stylish.
For anyone wondering how to make it more fun, now that none of them have warranty anymore: It is said to be relatively easy to get into the ECU and install a bit of software to be able to deactivate the TC-System. (At least for someone who somewhat know what they are doing) All that is left to do is to connect a switch to it with some electrical wizardry and you have an absolute drift missile on your hands.
+João Ferreira Yes...just put in this Twingo a 150-160 bhp engine in it (like the 1.6 from the Clio RS) and a massive button with "Traction Control OFF" written on!
For what it is, it's a very nice car, dont expect to be racing it just because its RWD, hell, most cars were RWD in the '60s and '70s, and you wouldnt race 90% of them.
Why does it not handle like a mini 911? Because it's a bloody shopping car for God's sake, the people who this car is aimed at will not have a clue what opposite lock is or lift off oversteer. It's designed to be safe & secure in its handling not a drift machine.
@@lupurednic8624 look at the age of my initial comment, it's not a drift machine. Any car can be modded to drift given enough time & money. But from factory, no.
@@Zerofightervi i dont care how old is your comment , you can make this car a drift machine , if it had from factory a button for abs and traction control it would've been a drift machine
Pretty disappointed by how the Twingo performs in the handling category. With it being RWD it had so much promise of being a fun little car. Hopefully an RS version will fix that.
AdrianC12345 there is gonna come a gt-version, they won't call it an RS because due to very small engine-space resp cooling there's not gonna be much of an engine boost. It's probably end up as a ~125hp engine, which is fine with me in a car that light/small. Most important is better/sportier handling and Steering-wheel feedback. The gt-version with a sliding sunroof will be my 1st physical/real car (I do sim-racing since ~12years).
I have just got a Twingo 90TCE Dynamique & I love it. It's a fun lovely little car & I love it. I have the optional full length electric fabric sunroof, I am 5ft 7 & no problem in the back for me but avoid this option if you want taller people in the back, without the sunroof headroom is good. The turning circle is amazing, nippy handling & I would recommend the 90TCE & avoid the 70SCE. I would recommend this car happily.
Funky, small, good looking city car that is economical and gets you from a to b for sub 10k. Things this car will most likely not be able to do, 1) Beat a Typhoon Eurofighter in a drag race to the moon (even with the 0.9 tce rather than the 1.0 sce) 2) Out drift Takumi Fujiwara down Mt Akina 3) Pick up dem hot bitches while cruisin in your pimp ride while blasting the wub wubs with the windows down.
What a nice, little car! Rear wheel drive! How cute! I really like those Brits from 5th Gear as well. All Charming, and know their stuff extremely well. Highly recommended!
I have this car for a shor lease period. Something felt weird at its handling. Found out that it is because the engine is in the rear. Didnt notice it till i listened for the engine noise :D imo the rear wheeldrive is not fitting for such a lightweight car. But the car is relatively fast in the city. You do sit quiet high which is very nice compared to the other small cars. Fine car, but if tbh it has this girly look, so if you want to stick to a small car i d prob go for the UP or the 108.
I like the idea. A town car with rwd. You don't see that anymore, at least, not in the US. I would love to see a modern economy sized rwd car. I'm not a fan of the styling, but no runabout looks very dashing.
Missed opportunity here. Thanks to the renault-nissan partnership, they could've sourced a 660cc turbo engine from nissan of japan and sold it in Japan as a kei car, like smart did with the fourtwo, although they developed their own kei-spec compliant engine
I think Renault could have make the exterior look like the old 4cv to give it a retro style like they did with the Fiat 500 But I think this design will be shared with the next smart for four, so It has to be like that
2015 model . There is no spare wheel. Mines only done 40,000 miles and the aircon is leaking , It won't idle--- sensor problems . the front end is light in strong cross winds .I can't see to reverse due to the high seats. Takes 10 minutes to check the oil level as the 6 bolts in engine bit are a struggle to unscrew. The washer bottle is a struggle to fill due to the silly bonnet. there is nowhere to put your left foot on a long drive. The glove box is useless. Parcel shelf clips broken Only 2mm thick . Cannot switch off front side lights. Horn difficult to work. Can't find ignition key hole in the dark.
i never had many problems with mine i had a 2015 sce70 Dynamique from new had it for 6 years and had 20,000 miles on it only ever had issues in the 1st year of ownership with the radio kept switching off but they replaced it with an up to date version and did have a misfire just after the 1st year was a bad Cam phaser but got sorted over a weekend and it was flawless apart from a punctured tyre until i sold it in 2021. Currently have a mk3 Dacia Sandero TCE90 Comfort 2 years on been great.
D 4W built on the same platform but there is 30 percent difference in terms of materials etc. they have slightly different safety features and the twingo is much more cost effective than the smart. the smart is a tiny bit more premium but on the outside I think the twingo looks "cuter"
Very nice Team Review ! In France we doesn't like the new Twingo ! (Yes it's French Bashing) With a Rear Wheel Drive and Rear Engine you must to do "The brand new Twingo can Drift?" !! That must be funny ^^
bugattiincroyable "We" ? The Twingo got a nice start in France... more than 20k units sold since Sept 2014 ! This isn't bad for a hated car... The french (107/C1/Aygo) and german (Citigo/Mii/Up) triplette didn't get much better !
Because Renault proved many times that it can transform a little city car into a real thing (5 GT, Clio Williams, Clio 172-182-Trophy-200, RS Twingo). Everybody expected that the Twingo-Smart platform will finally let them express their magic on a rear wheel drive model, or at least show a hint of what they can do on a basic version such as the one reviewed here. Unfortunately, that didn't happen.
How tall are these reviewers? They all seem under 1.60, very comfortable in these tiny cars.. The Up and Citigo has the big car feel, even when driving on the motorway, that matters more than handling or a "fun-to-drive" comparison for a commuter.
I am 1.9m tall . I could not fit it the back (roof was too low) , and also could not find comfortable driving position in front (seat is too low for my long legs , and even with seat moved all to back and seat jacked all the way up or down , my thighs hurt) . I drive Hyundai Atos which has almost the same outside size , by I am comfortable inside it , it seats 5 people and it has decent boot with full size spare wheel . And Twingo is not new idea . Fiat 126 BIS had rear engine , boot in the front with spare wheel and jack , and also room for few smaller bags , and also rear hatchback with folding seats and rear boot was as big as in this Twingo .
+Wahjoost I know... It isn't possible to even look like you drive it never mind actually drive it. Poor you, some idiot guy on RU-vid means you can't drive it. 😂
inesshell Twingo + smart forfour share the same platform. Everything you see and touch is different - bodywork, interior, wheels, brand and image. Everything hidden under the skin is probably identical, same engine, gearbox, wheelbase, floorpan maybe. They are manufactured in the same factory
The Mitsubishi i has the same rear engined rear wheel drive rear boot layout. It remains fresh till this day and its been over a decade since that came out. So dont rave over this like that!
How idiotic to get a front boot not openable and usable. But a boot back with an engine cover to make you not be able to cover the basic maintenance. A pain in the ass
I lament the wasted potential. I don't do track driving, but going sideways at slow speeds is just FUN. The Twingo could have been one of the greats, but no. Going sideways in the snow/gravel is the best thing in the world. I'm not a tarmac drifting guy. I appreciate the TCS in some conditions, but they should give you the choice ffs. It's not a track weapon and I really don't care about lap times. I care about how a car makes *me* feel. Soon you can sit on the back seat as the computers take you round the track. Computers detach you from feeling imo. Renault should add a damn button.
It looks like a Fiat 500 copycat, it doesn't drive as good as most people think, and it doesn't offer a luggage compartment in the front (which would've been its major pro). I don't really get this originality thing, just like I didn't get it with the Cactus and its many bad ideas. The Fiat 500, even though it's 8 years old now, still feels much better to me.
This car is what you can call an epitome of absolutely wasted chances - by design, it had a potential to compete with Mini in terms of drive involvement - to looks they completely ignored it and basically made another shitty "citycar", with no character whatsoever, plain looking "econo-mom-mover"...bravo Renault.
The front sits are garbage it's too big it should be normal sits or it should make sport twingo And normal also with the sits we did not see if it had door pockets how ever it's power u can do 360turn nobprob the it's nice how the bit enerior it's has a colour to it big prob is the front sits it's. Detastire class back door ez can u broke and last it's the open windows u can't so imegene in summer u are like a fish in. A cann in back sit for such ok dizan France need to focus on next gen of twingo and learn the mistakes they make with small cars
