Susan and Renée, friends for decades, exhibit here their beautiful duet synergy as they have sung so many operas and concerts together over the years. Just listen to their diminuendo at 2:20 on the word “ensemble.” They execute it at the same moment and speed, maintaining their exquisite balance of their incandescent voices. I’ve seen Renée in concert but have yet to catch Susan. I LOVE these two artists and what they have done to represent America on stages around the globe.
ale uczta dla uszu, coś fantastycznego ponadziemskiego !!!! O Jezu jakie to cudne. Piątek 1 VII 2022 godz. 20L58 słucham :) Idealnie dobrane 2 barwy głosów. Szlachetne brzmienie, harmonia cud. Dwie kobiety a jakby śpiewał cały chór.
I'm not sure if it was too fast -- to me it felt like the two singers were competing with each other giving the feel of a galloping pace. But I think you are right -- it's over before it seems to have started.
You do realize of course, that your singing has extended the life expectancy of millions of severely damaged, wounded, depressed, infirmed, or just tired and sad. You allow us in this time of crude and vulgar, fascism, and diplomatic lunacy we crave the sound of the "humane" human voice raised in happy song.
Peter Mullen I live what you wrote. you are so right and must see beauty in wonderful colors and hues. Thank you so much for being brave enough to express what the soul feels. You have given me hope in the color of azure waters and of alabaster tulips 🌷, gracing my crystal vase. Peace and joy to you. ~R•☮
I wonder how many people that saw "Carlito's Way" with Al Pacino recognized what they were listening to when Carlito climbed across the roofs to catch a glimpse of his sweetheart practicing ballet.
Could be the conductor was adjusting the tempo to fit the acoustics of the space. Regular tempo may've sounded like dragging to the back of the hall, if it was big enough.
Is is me or was the conductor rushing through that? I felt bad for the ladies as they were holding on for dear life!! They did wonderful despite the hurried tempo!
While no one can dispute the wonderful voices of these stars, I prefer the more nuanced performance of Sabine Devieilhe and Marianna Crebassa- a less-frenetic tempo, sung by two native-French speakers. This creates what sounds like a conversation between two friends, creating a much more melodic flow of the phrases, and less of an ‘operatic performance for an audience.”
Those who feel this is too fast should look at the score. The conductor is absolutely correct and the tempo reflects the sense of expectation and revelry that the words of the duet indicate..
Sutherland sings with Berbié in her studio recording, not Tourangeau. But I honestly think it's pointless to compare versions. If you don't like this version, why don't you tell us the reason based on what Fleming and Graham actually DO as opposed to what they DON'T do = sound like other singers?
Oh people SILENCE!!! Enjoy the music and sh... up. If all of you know better how is that you are not there singing. Silly humans, always the need to criticize everything.
Salutations.
Who the hell dresses these gals? What is that gauze RF has over her oxide green lame dress? You add a strong accent color to enhance a less strong colored dress. ...that necklace does not suit the other singer... And the tempo is off: their singing is too rushed expanding in the wrong parts!
Although Renee is one of thee Greats. THIS was not a good performance. The tempo could have been slower. Otherwise, her placement was everywhere. A piece such as this requires Dolce and sensitivity to every phrase. I feel like Renee butchered this. I was quite disappointed to say the least.
